Disobedience By Design by Regina Kammer @Kammerotica #RLFblog #historicalromanceToday’s featured book is Disobedience By Design by Regina Kammer.

In 1860, the railways of Victorian England transport American stevedore Joseph Phillips to the lush countryside of Lincolnshire…and into the arms of Lady Sophia Harwell. But Sophia is betrothed to a violent villain who wants only two things: her virginity and her dowry. Can Joseph save his beloved without scandalizing upper-class British society?

    The Lady…

Lady Sophia Harwell has just been presented to Society—and its eligible bachelors—and is quite unimpressed. Her parents are encouraging the suit of the Duke of Royston, a man older than her father! Yet free-spirited Sophia is smitten with Joseph, her brother’s handsome American business partner, a man who introduces her to sensual delights beyond the bounds of propriety and the dictates of her social standing.

    …And The Laborer

Joseph Phillips is out of his depth amongst the British aristocracy trying to secure investors for his American railroad enterprise. To make matters worse, he can’t keep his hands off his business partner’s sister. Sophia is far out of his league and expected to marry a duke. But when the duke reveals his villainy, Joseph decides some risks are worth taking, and, to protect Sophia, he embarks upon a partnership of an entirely unexpected nature.

    The Harwell Heirs

Victorian aristocracy has very strict rules concerning marital connections and familial obligations. But the Harwell heirs—Helena, Sophia, and Arthur—discover love doesn’t always follow the rules. Scandalous affairs force these scions of society to choose between duty and desire, deference and destiny.

Stressing Miss Elizabeth Atwell from Only a Hero Will Do @alannalucas27 #RLFblog #Regency

Stressing Miss Elizabeth Atwell from Only a Hero Will Do @alannalucas27 #RLFblog #genreA feisty heiress and a dashing ex-army captain working together to defeat dark forces threatening Britain’s monarchy. Only a Hero Will Do by Alanna Lucas

Defender of the realm…and his wary heart…

    Stressing Miss Elizabeth Atwell

Every heroine has a story. She has a background, a history, and a past. This interview allows us to meet a heroine and get to know her better, by focusing on how she handles being relaxed, as well as how she handles stress.
    Age: 26
    Birthplace: England
    Profession: spy (shh! don’t tell)
    Ethnicity: British
    Species (for scifi/fantasy characters):

    The Heroine’s Relaxed Side

This heroine is at a party. Considering her story, describe the party.
Being the daughter of a viscount, Elizabeth is no stranger to the elegant ballrooms of the ton, however even she finds Lady Caper’s soirées far too tedious and overcrowded. Despite the opulence of the environment, lovely music, and the company of her dear friend, Elizabeth is too focused on her mission to enjoy the evening.
How does the heroine feel about being this particular party, and what body language is she displaying that gives it away?
Elizabeth does not want to be there, but is quite proficient at putting on a good show for the sake of propriety. None would suspect she’s only at the party to keep an eye on the man suspected of acts against the crown.
Is she more likely to mingle or remain aloof?
Mingle, but always on the look for possible danger.
If she drinks, what is her drink of choice at this party?
    She doesn’t drink.
The heroine figures out where the hiding places are and then goes there. Is it to hide, to avoid someone, or to go drag a friend back to the party?
None of those ;-) It would be to receive a secret missive that needs to be decoded.
Is she likely to latch onto a friend and stay with him/her and ignore others, or is she the friend that others latch onto?
She is the friend that others latch onto.
If someone picked a fight at this party, how is the heroine going to handle it?
Depends on who is involved. She doesn’t want to giveaway her secret ;-)
Is the heroine the one most likely to get tossed out of the party, or the one who does the tossing?
Of course not! She may be a spy, but she’s still a lady.
Will she know when to leave, or stay late and make a nuisance of herself?
    If anything, Elizabeth leaves early.

    The Heroine’s Stressed Out Side

How does the heroine handle it if the cops or some other authority figure pulls her aside when she was blameless in a situation?
Elizabeth is not some simpering miss. She will defend herself and her actions.
How does the heroine react to hearing a scream?
    Run and investigate.
If she sees someone being assaulted, what is the FIRST thing that crosses her mind?
That Typhon- the elusive antagonist in Only a Hero Will Do- or one of his lackey’s has infiltrated the ton.
If she sees someone being assaulted, what is the FIRST thing she does?
Pulls out her pocket pistol from her thigh holster and goes after the assailant.
This heroine attempts to rescue someone and realizes that she is in over her head. The odds are against her and there is no way out. She is going to get her butt handed to her. What does she do?
Never give up, that’s for certain! Perhaps restrategize a little and then rise to the occasion.
The heroine runs into the one person from her past she wanted to avoid. She can’t get out of the situation and must interact with him/her in some way. What does she do?
Miss Elizabeth Atwell is the daughter of a viscount and knows how to put on a good show for the sake of propriety.
Someone younger than the heroine is in charge of the situation, and they are handling it badly, perhaps bungling things. How does the heroine deal with it?
    Take control, of course.
The heroine is in physical pain but must bear up under it and keep going. What does she tell herself in order to get through the situation?
“This is your chance to prove that you do belong. You are a spy.”
What mentor’s words come to mind in a bad situation?
I wouldn’t have asked you to be part of the Legion if I didn’t believe you were capable.
What lesson from her past gets her through a stressful situation?
Being told she would never have a place in a man’s world. She was going to prove every naysayer wrong.

    Only a Hero Will Do

Captain Grant Alexander is an enigma in London society. Dashing and handsome, he coldly eschews marriage. But the ton knows nothing of his role in the Legion: to bring Typhon, the traitor who seeks to destroy the British monarchy, to justice.

When Grant is thrown together with fellow Legion member Elizabeth Atwell, he’s instantly beguiled yet exasperated by this beautiful viscount’s daughter. She has little interest in combing the marriage mart for a well-bred, well-heeled husband, but is adept at code-breaking and handling a bow and arrow. She also refuses to do as she is told, insisting she accompany Grant on his mission.

As Typhon continues to evade capture and dark forces are at work, Grant realizes he must act, not only to protect the realm but Elizabeth too…not to mention his heart, which is in danger of thawing every time she comes close…

The Wallflower’s Wicked Wager by Collette Cameron @Collette_Author #RLFblog #Regency

The Wallflower’s Wicked Wager by Collette Cameron @Collette_Author #RLFblog #RegencyWelcome Collette Cameron author of The Wallflower’s Wicked Wager, a new Regency Romance.

Why did you write this book?

I introduced Shona Atterberry in her sister’s book, Heartbreak and Honor, but I didn’t know who her hero was going to be. Then, Morgan’s character popped into my head, and I knew he was perfect for her.

What is your favorite genre to read?

Historical romance, LOL. What a surprise. I love everything from medieval to Victorian.

Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?

I have to pick just one? But there are so many. I’ve always loved Heather from The Flame and the Flower. So much so that I named my daughter Brianna after her. (Heather’s middle name was Brianna.)

What are you working on at the moment?

I’ve just finished my 20th book, Seductive Surrender, book 6 in my Highland Heather Romancing a Scot series. I’m on to two new series and a special surprise coming out next year.

What books will we see from you in coming months?

You’ll see more books in my Seductive Scoundrel and Heart of a Scot Series as well as the last two Conundrums of the Culpepper Misses series. I also have two top-secret, really awesome group projects coming up.

Please tell us about your latest book.

    Genre Regency

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG

He loved her beyond anything and everything—precisely why he couldn’t ever marry her.

    A wounded hero.

Love—sentimental drivel for insipid, weak, feckless fools.

Since an explosion ravaged Captain Morgan Le Draco’s face and cost him his commission in the Royal Dragoons, he’s fortified himself behind an impenetrable rampart of cynicism and distrust. Now destitute and shunned by the very society that once lauded his heroics, he’s put aside all thoughts of marrying and having a family. Until he risks his life to save a drowning woman. At once, Morgan knows Shona’s the balm for his tortured soul, but as a wealthy, titled noblewoman, she’s too far above his humble station and can never be his.

    An intrepid wallflower.

Love—a treasured gift reserved for those beautiful of form and face.

Scorned and ridiculed most of her adult life, Shona, Lady Atterberry believes she’s utterly undesirable and is reconciled to spinsterhood. She hides her spirited temperament beneath a veneer of gauche shyness, until a strapping, scarred stranger saves her life, and she can’t deny her immediate, powerful, and sensual attraction to him. Despite how ill-suited they are and innuendos that Captain Le Draco is a fortune-hunter, she cannot escape her growing fascination.

Two damaged souls searching for love.

Others are determined to keep them apart, and Shona is goaded into placing a wicked wager. One that sets her upon a ruinous path and alienates the only man who might have ever loved her. Is true love enough to put their pasts behind them, to learn to trust, and heal their wounded hearts?

Caution: This book contains one devilish, seemingly irredeemable rogue, an on-the-shelf wallflower who dabbles in wicked wagers, an unexpected and most enticing swim in a lake, a villainess you’ll want to shove into said lake, and a cast of captivating secondary characters with their own tantalizing romantic tales.

Where Have All The Scoundrels Gone? by Donna Cummings @BookEmDonna #RLFblog #Regency Today’s featured book is Where Have All The Scoundrels Gone? a Regency by Donna Cummings.

Where Have All the Scoundrels Gone?

That is precisely what the Dowager Lady Thornham wants to know. She devotes her days to reading every scandalous morsel published about London’s rakes and rogues, but lately it seems they have all settled down and abandoned their wicked behavior.

Fortunately the Dowager has hit upon a new diversion: matchmaking. She has summoned her three nephews to a house party attended by a score of marriage-minded debutantes, and warned the young men they shall lose their quarterly allowance if they thwart her matrimonial schemes.

Three Scoundrel Heroes. One Determined Dowager. Three Unexpected Romances.

Miles – The summertime gathering is a good excuse for Miles to reminisce with his cousins about the mischief they have gleefully caused their aunt throughout the years. The allowance would benefit his upcoming return to Egypt, financing his quest for antiquities, but a bride is not in his plans…until he rescues the beautiful widow Gemma and her pesky cat Snowball from some treacherous rosebushes.

Richard – His resistance to marriage makes him utterly irresistible to the marriageable females in attendance. Unfortunately for them, he is only interested in Constance, a doctor’s daughter who refuses to give her heart again, especially to a charming scoundrel who extracts secrets for a living. When his wooing has little effect, he proves his devotion in another way—with a fairyland hideaway he has created just for her.

William – He is the quiet one that people rarely notice unless he is sketching their likeness. His aunt’s paid companion, Honora, a budding artist, has been both his muse and the source of his inability to paint since their first brief encounter two years previously. A series of secret art lessons benefits them both, and their budding attraction is given a chance to finally blossom.

Faye Hall’s passion driven, mystery filled books are set in small townships of North Queensland, Australia during the late 1800’s. Each of her novels brings something symbolically Australian to her readers, from Aboriginal herbal remedies, to certain gemstones naturally only found in this part of the world.

Each of her books tells of a passionate connection between the hero and heroine, surrounded and threatened by deceit, scandal, theft and sometimes even murder. These romances swerve from the traditional romances as Faye aims to give her readers so much more intrigue, whilst also revealing the hidden histories of rural townships of North Queensland. Faye finds her inspiration from the histories of not only the township she grew up in, but the many surrounding it. She also bases most of her characters on people she has met in her life.

Faye was able to live her own passion driven romance, marrying the love of her life after a whirlwind romance in 2013. Together they are raising their nine children in a remote country town in northern Queensland, Australia.

    Alina K Field’s new Regency Adventure @alinakfield #RLFblog #RegencyRomance

Alina K Field's new Regency Adventure @alinakfield #RLFblog #RegencyRomanceAlina K Field author of The Bastard’s Iberian Bride answers five easy questions.

    Please tell us about yourself.

Though I earned a Bachelor of a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and German literature, I discovered my true passion is in the much happier world of romance fiction. My roots are in the Midwestern U.S., but after six very, very, very cold years in Chicago, I moved to Southern California where I share a midcentury home with my husband, a spunky, blonde, rescued terrier, and the blue-eyed cat who conned his way in for dinner one day and decided the food was too good to leave.

What’s your favorite down-home family style meal?

My mother’s Sunday beef pot roast with pan roasted potatoes, and her homemade cherry pie for dessert. Mm-mmm, I miss my mom’s cooking!

What’s your favorite hashtag to watch on Twitter?

I must confess, I love to watch the hot-button current event hashtags trending on Twitter (and they change day-to-day) to see the stories before they’ve been officially vetted. Sure, I know some of the posts are inaccurate, slanted, or downright fake, but I love when the folks on the ground manage to scoop the professional media, and I love the diversity of opinions expressed, even if they’re a little crazy!

    Describe the perfect vacation.

The perfect vacation is a driving vacation, with no “gotta-be-there-by” commitments. I’d love to take that kind of vacation in the British Isles, if only I could get my driving brain to operate on the other side of the road!

    What are your hobbies?

I’m a knitter, and I also sew, nowadays mostly easy, straight-stitch things like curtains and table runners, but I do make the occasional Regency gown.

What kinds of things do you read when you’re researching a new book?

My sources include blog posts and articles, memoirs, and historical books. For The Bastard’s Iberian Bride, I used Google maps to try to figure out the route to Gretna Green. I also love Pinterest for helpful images. I make boards for each of my stories to help me with inspiration and description. For the next books in this series, I’m reviewing books I read last year about 18th and 19th century smuggling in England, as well as early 19th century piracy in the West Indies. So much fun!

If the hero of your latest book called you on the phone, what would be a perfect ringtone for him?
