Is It True: The Wedding Date by ZrinkaJelic @Firetulip #RLFblog #romance #comedyPlay Is It True with today’s guest Zrinka Jelic, author of The Wedding Date, a Romantic Comedy. This is a game in which authors answer yes and no questions. They can elaborate on answers as much as they choose.

First, tell us about your book.

Nerissa (Neri) Runic, in her late thirties, single and overweight is deemed unmarriageable by her family. So she fabricated a story about dating Mark Warren, a sexy doctor and the gym owner she’s been ogling for months. She thinks none of her lies will come back to haunt her. When her mother RSVP s to the cousin’s wedding invitation on her behalf including a Plus One, Neri has no choice but to attend…or come clean and face her family’s scrutiny.

Frustrated with everyone trying to fix him up on a blind date, Mark Warren lied about dating an elusive redheaded member of his gym who caught his eye months ago. Only, he fully intends to turn this lie into truth. Once he musters enough courage to approach her, that is.

With hardly a month before his cousin’s wedding, he hopes his mother would reply to the invitation, declining his attendance. But getting out of this obligation is out of question. She expects him to reply with ‘happy to attend with a guest’.

When they find out they are forced to attend the same wedding, Mark and Neri must practice their ‘relationship’ in an effort to fool their families into thinking they are a real couple.

But the thin line between pretending and the real deal is easily crossed.

Now, tell us Yes or No for each answer below. Feel free to explain any (or none) of your answers.

    Is it true:

    this is your first book?
No, I have five full length novels one novella and couple of short stories and a poem published prior to releasing this book.
this book is part of a series?
No, this is a stand-alone title.
you lost sleep while writing this book?
    On occasion
you did research for this book?
True. As with every book I’ve written.
some characters in this book are not human? (pets for example)
True, there’s a dog named Tag in the book.
this book has more than one genre?
True, or could be true, it’s a romance and a comedy.
you speak more than one language?
True, my mother’s tongue is Croatian, but I’m from a costal part that has its own dialect which is very similar to Italian, but converted to our grammar. So I can converse in Italian, if you’re not in a hurry.
you grew up where you live now?
No, I grew up in the town of Zadar, in the province of Dalmatia, (yes, where the original Dalmatian dogs were bread, back then called Canis Dalmaticus and the early breeds looked different from what you see today).
    you love to read?
Yes, of course. I only heard Danielle Steel say she doesn’t read when she’s working, which is always, for fear she writes something she read in another author’s book into her own.
    you are never late?
Not true, or rather used to be true, before I had kids. They really have no concept of time.
    you love pizza?
Yes and no, depends on the pizza.
    you love sushi?
Vegetarian only, used to like fish, but not anymore.
    you have a pet?
Unfortunately, no. Me and half of my and husband’s family are allergic to cats. Dogs are expensive to keep, and so are cats. I hear horror stories from my coworkers who are paying astronomical sums in veterinary bills. I don’t know how they can afford it.

    Sometimes #Cancer Keeps Giving @vickibatman #pinktober

    • 150 stitches and staples
    • Right fibula, tissue and vessels removed and transplanted to jaw
    • Skin graft from right thigh to calf
    • Left chest muscle removed and grafted to jaw
    • One titanium plate
    • Five drains
    • Trach tube
    • Nasal feeding tube
    • Three oral surgeries
    • 58 hyperbaric oxygen chamber treatments

No one knows how Handsome got cancer. He had an occasional cigar. Worked out. Ate great. Lots of stress. Yet ten years ago, he was diagnosed with throat cancer. The doctors discovered it had spread from base of tongue to lymph nodes in his neck. He had chemo and was nuked–literally.

What we didn’t know at the beginning of this year was the radiation caused bone decay in his left jaw because of poor circulation. Dentists couldn’t diagnose the shadow on the x-ray until we met an oral surgeon who instantly recognized the problem and recommended hyperbaric oxygen chamber treatments. It was just like what you think-Handsome was put in a tube and dived for three hours every day. The tissue improved, but not the bone.

The oral surgeon removed two back teeth. But ultimately the jawbone crumbled in a thin spot. Surgery became the only recourse and would take ten hours. His fibula, surrounding tissue and vessels were transplanted to the jaw. A graft from his thigh would replace this area. The doc was optimistic; however, the transplant didn’t work as the blood supply failed-the culprit: radiation. So back to surgery the next day and a chest muscle replaced the rejected bone.

Out of surgery, he had five drains, a cut from ear to ear. He couldn’t eat because of infection to his mouth; so he had a feeding tube through his nose. A tracheotomy because of the swelling. He stayed in the hospital for eight days.

Being a strong guy going in, he started to walk, sat up, learned how to talk with the trach which was removed when he was discharged. For twenty hours a day, he was tethered to a feeding system until the tube developed a kink two days before scheduled removal and was extracted in the emergency room at the hospital.

Since, he has had a swallowing test and therapy to improve his swallowing. He lost thirty pounds and through a high calorie diet, has regained fifteen. There’s a slight limp in his right leg. And a wicked scar on his chest.

I won’t lie to you-this has not been easy.

After surgery, I said to my sons how I didn’t want Handsome to undergo anything like this again. But we don’t know what life will bring. Seventy percent of all cancers are random mutations. My hope for you is to take care of your body. Don’t smoke. Eat well. Lessen your stress. And exercise.

    About the Book

    Title: Been Searching for You
    Genre: Romantic Comedy
Book heat level (based on movie ratings G, PG, PG13, R): PG-13
Annabeth is a hopeless romantic who believes in soul mates. In fact, she’s been writing to hers each year on her birthday since she was 16.
Now, at 34, she’s still holding out hope of finding Mr. Right even though he’d be fighting an uphill battle to gain her trust, thanks to a traumatic experience years before that’s left her unable to commit.
When Annabeth meets a handsome literature professor named Alex on her 34th birthday, she thinks her quest may finally be at an end. Things don’t quite go as planned, so Annabeth resolves to do everything she can over the next year to find the unknown recipient of her letters.  But blind dates, Meetup events and online singles sites have nothing on what fate has in store for her when a co-worker unexpectedly quits and Annabeth finds herself working in close quarters with both Alex and her long ago ex, Nick. Fighting her attraction to one and loathing for the other, Annabeth is forced to face all of her old insecurities while keeping an eye on a scheming frienemy who may derail her hopes and dreams.
Written in the tradition of Bridget Jones’ Diary, Kim Gruenfelder’s A Total Waste of Makeup, and Melissa Pimental’s Love By The Book, this romantic comedy shows that love on the sweet side can exist for the modern girl, if only she’s willing to trust herself and search hard enough.
Been Searching for You was the winner of the 2015 Romance Writers of America Great Expectations and Golden Rose contests.

    Stressing The Heroine

Every heroine has a story. She has a background, a history, and a past. This interview allows us to meet a heroine and get to know her better, by focusing on how she handles being relaxed, as well as how she handles stress.

    The Heroine’s Relaxed Side

This heroine is at a party. Considering her story, describe the party.
Annabeth actually attends a party in the second scene of the book. It’s a celebration of Chicago’s top singles and she’s there to support her best-frienemy, Mia, who is one of the honorees. It’s a swanky affair at the Drake Hotel downtown, with white table cloths, champagne, roses, and guests in chic finery.
How does the heroine feel about being this particular party, and what body language is she displaying that gives it away?
It’s her 34th birthday and she’s feeling down and a little bitter because she’s single yet AGAIN in addition to being a year older. She crosses her arms and scowls. But when she spies a handsome stranger talking with her other best friend, Miles, all that changes. She’s interested and more than a little nervous, wiping sweaty palms on her dress and drinking a little more for liquid courage.
Is she more likely to mingle or remain aloof?
She’s shy, so she sticks with the people she knows.
If she drinks, what is her drink of choice at this party?
She likes to drink. Tonight she’s enjoying champagne.
How much drink is her usual?
She can have three before being drunk, but she usually tries to stay around two when she’s in public. At home, all bets are off and she drinks as much as she wants.
The heroine figures out where the hiding places are and then goes there. Is it to hide, to avoid someone, or to go drag a friend back to the party?
Annabeth is an introvert, so she’d be there to hide. When she’s had too much of Mia, which happens easily and often given Mia’s larger-than-life personality, Annabeth will go get some fresh air to clear her head and put her attitude right again. Mia would be the one to drag her back to the party.
Is she likely to latch onto a friend and stay with him/her and ignore others, or is she the friend that others latch onto?
She sticks with the group she came with unless someone particularly catches her interest, as Alex does.
If someone picked a fight at this party, how is the heroine going to handle it?
If it was someone she knew, she would try to break it up before it came to blows and even if it did, she’d get between the opponents. If it was a stranger, she’d stay out of it and probably snark about it with Mia.
Is the heroine the one most likely to get tossed out of the party, or the one who does the tossing?
No, Annabeth would likely be the first to leave. Mia would be the one to be tossed out.
Will she know when to leave, or stay late and make a nuisance of herself?
    Same answer as above.

    The Heroine’s Stressed Out Side

How does the heroine handle it if the cops or some other authority figure pulls her aside when she was blameless in a situation?
Annabeth is a rule follower. She’d be so nervous and upset even if she was innocent because she doesn’t like to be called out. However, as we see in a scene where her boss blames her for the behavior of a subordinate, she will fight back if she feels gravely wronged and that doing so upheld the idea of fairness.
How does the heroine react to hearing a scream?
Depends on the kind of scream. If it’s a call for help, her first reaction would probably be to go give aid. If she felt like that would put her in danger, she’d call the cops. If it was a horror movie scream, she’d run the other way – girlfriend ain’t stupid. If it was a love scene kind of scream, she’d roll her eyes and make a grossed out face. She’s probably heard that from Mia enough times to last the rest of her life.
If she sees someone being assaulted, what is the FIRST thing that crosses her mind?
“Oh my God! Is that really happening?”
If she sees someone being assaulted, what is the FIRST thing she does?
She’d look around for help or go for her phone to call the cops if it was a violent situation. Filming it would never cross her mind.
This heroine attempts to rescue someone and realizes that she is in over her head. The odds are against her and there is no way out. She is going to get her butt handed to her. What does she do?
She’d stick with them to the bitter end unless they do something to cross her. She’s very loyal.
The heroine runs into the one person from her past she wanted to avoid. She can’t get out of the situation and must interact with him/her in some way. What does she do?
Ha, this actually happens in the book. The person from her past is her ex, Nick. I won’t say how they have to interact because it’s a little bit of a spoiler, but she does her best to remain calm and professional, even though on the inside she’s screaming, shouting and crying. But that only lasts so long. When this situation is a repeat one, she eventually loses her cool and tells him off.
Someone younger than the heroine is in charge of the situation, and they are handling it badly, perhaps bungling things. How does the heroine deal with it?
This kind of happens in the book as well, although Annabeth isn’t yet directly involved. In the book, she just rolls her eyes and lets the person, Jenna, do what she’s going to do. If Annabeth had been Jenna’s boss or somehow otherwise directly involved, she would have tried to teach her ways to improve what she’s doing and be a mentor. You kind of see this a little in her working with Nick, where she is much more corrective of him than he deserves, although she still managers to hand him his butt on a plate.
The heroine is in physical pain but must bear up under it and keep going. What does she tell herself in order to get through the situation?
    See below.
What mentor’s words come to mind in a bad situation?
Her father’s. She’s very much a daddy’s little girl. He’d remind her how special she is and how strong she is and that she can triumph over anything.
What lesson from her past gets her through a stressful situation?
That no matter what happens, her family will always be there for her. She’s very close to her parents and sister, so she’s had ample opportunity to feel their love and support.

Marcia James: Spring Into Love @Marcia_James #RLFblog #boxedset

    Spring Into Love
Marcia James author of “Love Unleashed,” one of eleven
novellas in the Spring Into Love eBook boxed set answers five easy questions to
help readers get to know her better.

    Author Bio

Marcia James writes hot, humorous romances featuring heroines
you can root for, heroes to die for, and funny dogs. She finaled in 11 Romance Writers
of America contests before selling her first comic romantic suspense, At Her Command.
In her eclectic career, she has directed submarine training videos, organized celebrity-filled
nonprofit events, and had her wedding covered by People Magazine. After years of
dealing with such sexy topics as how to safely install traffic lights, she is enjoying
“researching” and plotting her novels’ steamy love scenes with her husband
    and hero of many years.
    What’s your favorite down-home
    family style meal?
From childhood, my favorite comfort food has been meatloaf with
mashed potatoes, followed closely by chicken and dumplings.
    What is your go-to meal
    when you dine out?
I prefer to eat several appetizers (usually interesting things
like steamed edamame or pork belly tacos) vs. getting a full entree. The exception
is when I’m at an Italian restaurant and want to take part of a pasta dish home
for yummy leftovers. I also enjoy Mexican and Asian dishes.
    Describe the perfect vacation.
I love any relaxing vacation that offers wine tastings, gourmet
restaurants, and an opportunity to play video poker at a casino. That’s why we’ve
visited Napa Valley, CA; Las Vegas, NV; and Scottsdale, AZ numerous times. I’m not
a beach person. I’d prefer visiting the mountains, like Breckenridge, CO, to a Florida
    beach vacation.
    What kinds of things do
you read when you’re researching a new book?
For research, I read articles and books, but I also talk with
people who are in the professions my hero and heroine have chosen or who have knowledge
of some aspect of my work-in-progress. For example, I’ve spoken to crime lab techs
for my comic romantic suspense, At Her Command. And I’ve interviewed several sex
therapists for Sex and the Single Therapist, the first in my “Dr. Ally Skye”
funny romantic mystery series. My next novella, “Racing Hearts,” is the
first in a series about a therapy dog training facility, and I’m arranging to watch
the classes at a local facility that trains dogs for people with emotional, health,
    and disability challenges.
If the hero of your latest
book called you on the phone, what would be a perfect ringtone for him?
The hero in “Love Unleashed” is a radio DJ with the
on-air nickname of “Rabid Ron” Hart. So I imagine he’d enjoy a ringtone
of the wolf-howling chorus from Warren Zevon’s “Werewolves of London.”

    Interview with Marilyn Baron

    Why did you write this
    book?
I wanted to feature a heroine of a certain age because I’m not
getting any younger and I believe people don’t just want to read about twenty-somethings.
This book was originally called, The Colonoscopy Club, so right away you know what
age I’m talking about. In Stones, I take a humorous look at a woman who can’t seem
to get closure in her life. My central character Julie has issues. Even her issues
have issues. Stones is about how Julie deals with those issues and features the
themes of first loves and second chances.
    What is your favorite
    genre to read?
I write in a number of genres—from historical romantic thrillers
and suspense to paranormal and women’s fiction—and I love to read a variety of genres.
Among my favorite genres are thrillers, literary fiction, and romantic suspense.
I have read a lot of amazing YA lately.
    What is your favorite
character from fiction (not including your own characters)?
Gabriel Allon in the Daniel Silva books.
    Do you enjoy films and/or
TV shows? Which are your favorites?
I love movies and I watch a lot of TV. Some of my favorite TV
shows are Castle, Rizzoli and Isles, Major Crimes, Blue Bloods, The Good Wife, The
    Bridge, and Downton Abbey.
    What are you working on
at the moment, and what are we likely to see from you in the coming months?
I am currently finishing Book Three of my Psychic Crystal Mystery
Series. Book One is Sixth Sense; Book Two is Homecoming Homicides. Book Three is
called Murder on the Repositioning Cruise.
I have a new women’s fiction book coming out this year in The
Lobster Cove Series from The Wild Rose Press (TWRP) called The Widows’ Gallery.
I’m very excited to be participating in this series. Lobster Cove is a quaint and
quirky fictional town on the coast of Maine near Bar Harbor. Participating TWRP
authors write stories across all lines as long as they’re set in Lobster Cove.
Here’s the blurb for The Widows’ Gallery:
Four recently widowed women meet on a Mediterranean cruise, bond
over the Renaissance masterpiece, The Birth
    of Venus
, in Florence, Italy, and find love, friendship and joy in their joint
venture to open an art gallery in the quaint, quirky, coastal town of Lobster Cove,
    Maine.
    Please tell us some fun
facts about your latest book, Stones.
The Colonoscopy Club (Now the published novel Stones) finaled
in the GRW Unpublished Maggie Awards for Excellence in 2005 in the Single Title
    category.
I lived in Florence, Italy, for six months during my junior year
in college, where I studied Art History, Italian, English, Mythology and Religion.
Part of Stones is set in Florence. The story is also set in Atlanta, Miami, and
Palm Coast. I was born in Miami and currently live in Atlanta and I own a beach
condo in Palm Coast. My central character owns an upscale jewelry boutique called
Stones, hence the name of the novel. I love jewelry, which is why I chose that career
for my heroine. My birthstone is an emerald which is why I wanted an emerald necklace
on the cover. A priceless emerald medallion is also featured prominently in the
    book.
In Stones, Julie is planning her son’s wedding and in real life,
    I’m planning my daughter’s wedding.
The first line and my favorite line of the book is “Thank
    God for lint.”
The book will be officially released September 26. Right now
it’s only available in paperback. It was released early in paperback in time for
my appearance on a panel at the Decatur Book Festival Saturday August 30 from 10:00
a.m. to 10:45 a.m. called “Tackling Sensitive Issues in Fiction.” Additional
information about the event is available on https://www.facebook.com/events/623254154448358/
If you’re in the Atlanta area over Labor Day I hope you’ll attend the presentation/book
    signing.
