Opening a closed down shelter takes a sobering turn in Chrissy Hartmann’s debut contemporary sweetheart romance, Rescuing Whiskey’s Salvation. The town’s favorite cowboy comes to the rescue, but will he be able to keep their budding romance from fading off into the sunset?
Chrissy, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.
Rescuing Whiskey’s Salvation by Chrissy Hartmann
Genre Contemporary Sweetheart Romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG
Rescuing Whiskey’s Salvation
No longer happy dealing with the glitz and glamour, cosmetic heiress Evie Mae Stockton plans to reopen her “dead” uncle’s homeless shelter in Whiskey, Texas. But Griff Bryant, a land developer and the town’s favorite cowboy, has other ideas for it.
Battling with the finances, the repairs to the shelter, and a homeless Troupe of Clowns who unknowingly terrorize her, Evie doubts her decision to come to Whiskey… Until Griff wants to help.
Evie’s brain stubbornly insists she can do this on her own, but her heart whispers to let him in.
While her heart warms to his, the mayor’s revitalization committee – a committee Griff sits on – threatens to lasso the shelter via eminent domain. Crushed with this news, Evie must decide between the cowboy and the shelter. Will her stubbornness stop her from Rescuing Whiskey’s Salvation or will it prevent her from finding true love?
Tell us about yourself as a person.
What makes you different from other people?
Probably my biggest difference is that I am blind. I’ve been blind for the past 26 years. I honestly don’t see myself as blind until I need to go somewhere. Then grabbing my cane or dog guide shocks me back to reality
But I think because of the blindness, I can actually see things better than others. A few of my writer friends tell me I should take up editing because I pick up on things most don’t.
And with the obvious being out of the way, I’d have to say I am a go getter. I’ve always loved to write, never thought about really doing it until the blindness, then I found myself with lots of time to learn how. And I’ve loved it ever since.
What is your personality type?
I’m one of those types of people who are comfortable in their own shoes. I like diversity. I say be who you want to be, just don’t tell me to be different. I am who I am.
I appreciate the good things in life, but appreciate them more when I can achieve them through hard work. I’m no slacker and can’t stand to be idle. But I am easy going to a point. I won’t let people walk all over me, in fact I’m ore the defender/protector type.
What was your favorite childhood game?
I love trivia, so when the original game of Trivial Pursuit came out, I wanted to play it all the time. In fact, I strongly requested that each parent plus my grandparents had the game at their houses so we could play. Unfortunately, they didn’t agree so I toted the huge box with me whenever we went to visit. The love for the game, still exists today and I can even rouse my hubby and son to play some sort of trivia game now and then.
What is your favorite subject to talk about?
History and politics are my favorites to talk about in general, but get me with a group of authors then it’s books and the craft of writing.
What is your favorite book?
I had a mild case of dyslexia growing up. My dad worked on it with me so I got to a point I didn’t struggle with reading, but I read very slowly. So when my 11th grade Humanities teacher, Mrs. Winkler, assigned us the book “The Agony and The Ecstasy” by Irving Stone I almost cried. I told her my problem with reading slow and that I’d never keep up with the class. She gave me the book to read way before she let anyone else read it, which in turn allowed me to finish it before my classmates did. I was then able to go back and follow with them as we discussed the book not being lost. It’s a wonderful book about Michelangelo and therefore I’d have to say it’s my favorite.
What is your favorite meal?
Baked salmon with plumb glaze and green beans and seasoned red potatoes. But in all reality, any type of salmon works for me… Salmon salad, salmon patties, salmon filets, salmon burgers, salmon grilled, etc.
Tell us about yourself as a writer.
What made you want to be a writer?
I love books and the stories they tell. I’ve always done some kind of writing since I was little. Diaries, journals, school paper, family newsletters, research papers, etc. When I lost my eyesight and learned how to use the computer blind, I started writing and listening to books on tape. I put the two together then and I’ve been writing novels ever since.
What are your favorite books for writing advice?
Your Personal Fiction Writing Coach: 365 Days of Motivation Tips to Write a Great Novel by Stephanie Bond
What are your favorite reference books?
The Emotion Thesaurus: A Writers Guide to Character Expression by Angela Ackerman and Becca Puglisi
Save the cat Writes a Novel: The last book on novel writing you’ll ever need by Jessica Brody
Writing Vivid Settings: For Professional Techniques For Fiction Authors Writers Craft Book 10 by Rayne Hall
When you go to a convention, what kinds of things do you take along?
Besides my iPad and battery charger and an extra extension cord I take business cards for networking and a One Sheet in case I only have a minute to pitch my novel.
What’s your best advice for a new writer?
Don’t give up! Writing is subjective. What might not be popular now, will probably be soon. And write what matters to you.
What are your writing goals for the next year or so?
I have book 1 out for my Whiskey Salvation series and would like to get my novella for the series out this summer, then finish book 2 of the series. I currently have a book of short stories waiting to be published and I’d like to have that out in 2023. Then I’ll finish another series I started out with two years ago. Book 1 needs a huge rewrite, book 2 is perfect, and book 3 is outlined and hopefully the chapters that are running around in my head won’t cause me problems getting them on paper. After that, I’ll pick one of the 15+ books to write I have outlined.

Hoping to be the next New York Times Best Seller with her contemporary sweetheart romance.
Chrissy lives with the two loves of her life, her hubby and son in a sleepy college town in Northeast Ohio.
Growing up in farm country tipping cows, riding horses, and surviving the depths of Lake Erie on a 36-foot sailboat have given her plenty of experiences to fill her books with a whole slew of unique characters. Anyone thinking they recognize them self as a character, you don’t. Their all from her imagination, an imagination some say like Dr. Frankenstein where she throws together bits and pieces of the people she’s met into one creation. Unless of course you end up on her blocked list, then watch out. You need no piecing together for one of her villains. So if you want a definite part in her stories, kick her guide dog or steal her iPhone and you’ll have won the top spot as her next antagonists.
She loves to write and can usually be found doing just that about any time of the day, except between 11 and 3 when she’s typing and editing medical reports. Her hubby does manage to pull her away at times to go for a ride in their SRX with the top open for ice cream or spin vinyl in the basement. Even though she’s always writing or studying history, she makes plenty of time for Star Wars with her son. Heck, she’s even been caught discussing her favorite Corellia smuggler all while they wrestle down their disgruntled long-haired kitten, Punkin to get out the knots she manages to snare. But hey, anything to take your mind off all the cat scratches.
Chrissy loves to venture out with her dog guide, Winnie especially to her writers group and writing conferences. Her favorite local spots are to the library and a coffee shop to get her daily dose of caffeine, especially when it’s pumpkin season, then its pumpkin everything. So if you can’t help yourself and think it wise to interrupt her writing time I suggest if her cup’s empty, you buy her a refill and have a chat. Who knows, parts of your life might end up in one of her contemporary romances or even as a quirky character in a cozy. But please don’t expect any piece of the pie. This writer doesn’t share. Sit and talk without offering a refill might just land you in one of her short stories. Not a place I’d want to be. Rumors say they’re murderous!

Meet Eileen Troemel @EileenTroemel Author of Marelo #RLFblog #FantasyRomance
Hidden dragons offer advice in Eileen Troemel’s sweet fantasy romance Marelo. A promise to her father drives Marelo to succeed putting aside all other desires. Bandor studies the determined female who he knows to be his mate. What will convince her they are meant to be together?
Eileen, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about Marelo.
Marelo by Eileen Troemel
Thank you for allowing me to join you. Marelo is a short story about a female studying water dragons and what made them disappear. She comes to Bandor’s beach, the last known place to have one spotted. Bandor knows she’s his mate but he’s willing to wait. His best advisor tells him it’s not as complicated as he’s making it.
Genre
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG – if this were a movie your toddlers could be in the room.
Marelo studies water dragons. Bandor studies her heart.
Driven to succeed, Marelo focuses on her studies. She doesn’t have time for males claiming her as a mate. She came here to study the dragon’s ancestral home. She will find the evidence she needs while avoiding all males especially Bandor who makes her heart rush.
Bandor takes one look at Marelo and knows she’s his mate. Her haughty demeaner doesn’t put him off. She’s his mate, he’ll do anything to win her. But he has secrets only his mate can know. Can he convince her to be his mate or will it take something more?
Tell us about yourself as a person.
What makes you different from other people?
Not a lot really. I think people at their core want the same things. You probably didn’t want a philosophical answer. Well two things come to mind off the top of my head – I have red hair which is not common and I was born on Leap Year so technically I’ve only had 14 birthdays
What is your personality type?
I’m an introvert. I like to watch people but I don’t necessarily want to be in the thick of things. I’m more likely to write about what I’ve seen than I am to hold a conversation with others. However, as my family knows I love to talk to the right people.
What was your favorite childhood game?
Hmm well I grew up on a farm and board games were rare. We played a card game named Racko which was fun. With six kids we played baseball and we had a sort of tag game we played. We had a silver fuel tank in our yard and that was goal. One person would hide around the house and people would run around the house. If you were caught by the person, you had to help catch people. Last one standing one.
What is your favorite subject to talk about?
I like to have meaningful conversations, topic doesn’t matter and it doesn’t matter if we agree (in most cases) so long as we both walk away from the conversation having heard the other person’s opinion.
What is your favorite book?
Theirs is no way I could narrow the many books I’ve read down to just one favorite one. Even if you gave me a genre I couldn’t narrow the category to one. Some of my favorite authors – Piers Anthony, JD Robb/Nora Roberts, Suzanne Brockmann, Anne McCaffery, Mercedes Lackey, Patricia Wrede, JK Rowling, Louis Lamour, Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Shakespeare, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, ee cummings, Ray Bradbury…. See what I mean?
What is your favorite meal?
Depends on who’s cooking… my husband – his lasagna… my oldest daughter – beef stroganoff… my middle daughter – chicken carbonara… my youngest daughter – tacos… I miss my mother’s ham and scalloped potatoes and her halo cookies…
Tell us about yourself as a writer.
What made you want to be a writer?
I cannot remember a time when I didn’t tell stories. My parents always called me imaginative. At eight a teacher asked us to write stories and from there, I knew I needed to write.
What are your favorite books for writing advice?
I’m not big on books about writing – probably because I don’t like people telling me how to write. I am very good at taking criticism and self-critiquing my own work. But for books here’s two which I found helpful for when I write sexy books:
Naughty Words for Nice Writers by Cara Bristol & The Sexaurus Sexy Words for Writers by Stefanie Olson et al
What are your favorite reference books?
A good modern big dictionary and a really good thesaurus – both will get you through a rough draft.
When you go to a convention, what kinds of things do you take along?
In addition to writing, I’m crafty too as are my daughters. So my daughters made me bags with a crossword puzzle style graphic of my book titles, water bottles with my logo, bookmarks, resin dragons and other critters, pouches with graphics designed by my daughters. I like to offer a variety so it will appeal to a variety of people.
What’s your best advice for a new writer?
Write your story. Don’t worry about anything other than getting the story down on paper. Read through it when you’re done and take off your writer’s cap and put on your reader’s cap. Would you want to read this? Where do you stumble? What do you want more of? Ask others – nicely – to read your stuff and LISTEN to them. If they actually tell you something other than how great it is, pay attention. Ultimately you’re the author but listen to what you’re told and consider adjusting. Everything – no matter how bad – can be fixed in editing.
What are your writing goals for the next year or so?
In 2022, I plan to publish Marelo in February, Celtan Dilemma in June, Star Stranded (working title) in the fall and at some point between Halloween and Christmas – Bah Humbug will get published. I have two crochet patterns I hope to publish soon.
Looking forward from there, I have completed two novels. I hope complete some projects I’m working on including re-editing a few of my first books and sequels to a few books.

The Last Dragon by Daryl Devore
Genre Medieval Fantasy Romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): G
What do dragons, knights and romance have in common? Grab a copy of multi-published author Daryl Devore’s medieval fantasy romance – The Last Dragon and discover the answer.
A sorcerer craving dominance merged with a dragon, the power overwhelmed him causing him to split into three dragons. Demora ruled thought, but was lost in time. Yidithe offered protection, shining like the light of the sun. Ayrradex craved chaos, revelling in destroying souls.
Many knights died, attempting to slay the devil beast. One knight, Prince Hawkyns, did not fear death. He’d lost everything. Away on a mission when Ayrradex attacked his father’s kingdom, Penrythe, Hawkyns returned to find his noble father – feeble and defeated. His wise mother – crazed. His beautiful wife and unborn child – dead. Only a pile of ashes remained for him to bury. He knelt before his King and vowed to slay the devil-beast or be slain.
Derry was born with powers that terrified her parents. They delivered her to a nunnery to be raised in secret. Jathe, a wise sorceress, discovered the young girl and trained her to one day use the secret hidden in her soul.
Legends spoken around campfires hinted the sole way to destroy Ayrradex was when the hearts of a knight and a golden dragon became one. But after a vicious battle with Ayrradex, the golden dragon was thought to be dead.
Can Prince Hawkyns’s bravery and Derry’s powers end the reign of the devil-beast’s terror?
Tell us about yourself as a person.
What makes you different from other people?
I am me. I dislike doing what other people do. A salesclerk telling me – Oh, everyone is wearing that – will make me put it back and walk away.
What is your personality type?
Introvert. I sit quietly and watch the world. But once I trust you – we will be friends for life.
What was your favorite childhood game?
Don’t actually think I had one. I took dance lessons and spent my free time at class or practicing at home.
What is your favorite subject to talk about?
Wow! These are tough. I guess it would be my daughter. Who just got married the Saturday before Christmas.
What is your favorite book?
Anything by Dorothy L. Sayers. She’s a British mystery writer. If I absolutely had to choose 1 – I’d probably say – Gaudy Night.
What is your favorite meal?
Shrimp smothered in butter and Old Bay seasoning. For dessert – a luscious chocolate mousse.
Tell us about yourself as a writer.
What made you want to be a writer?
Nothing made me. I just am. I was that annoying kid in school who liked writing essays. I found it easy.
What are your favorite books for writing advice?
Not books – people. When I have a writing question, I prefer to ask a human for help. It’s more personal and I get a faster response.
What are your favorite reference books?
Duck Duck Go. It is a search engine that doesn’t track its users. There is nothing I can’t search for there.
When you go to a convention, what kinds of things do you take along?
Never been to a convention. Last conference I signed up for was 20+ years ago and I backed out a month before as the Back Street Boys were performing in town and my tween was about to lose her mind!!
What’s your best advice for a new writer?
Find a critique group. It’s not easy. Try locally. Try online. But find one. You cannot edit your own work.
What are your writing goals for the next year or so?
I don’t make goals. I’ve got a WIP I’d like to finish. If I get it done – I get it done. If not…

Even if it means letting them go.
Tell us about yourself as a person.
What makes you different from other people?
Growing up we moved— A LOT! Which meant starting over every time in a new city or state.
What is your personality type?
I’m what most people call an extroverted introvert (an Ambivert). I can be social when required, but am most comfortable in my own space.
I learned very early to be quiet, listen and watch because kids can be brutal. If you were shy and unobtrusive most kids would leave you alone. As I aged, I realized how important it was to sound like the other kids and learned to pick-up whatever the local accent was from down south to the east and west coasts. I still tend to do this when traveling or at conferences.
During this time, books and music on the radio were my constant companions. I credit my growing up experiences as the time that started my writing career. I learned to read at a very early age and driving down the interstate I could read my books in the daylight but at night I relied on the radio. A line in a song would catch my attention and a story would start to build. When? Where? Why? and What if? are still my favorite game to play. I can still remember the first song that spurred a story. I even remember asking my dad if Garreth (the character in my first story) was a real name.
I fell in love with mysteries and soon my internal stories took on a suspense and danger angle. Next I found one of my grandmother’s Georgette Heyer books and there was no turning back.
Finally after a few other careers I find myself doing what I have always wanted to do with my life. I am a Romantic Suspense writer. My stories deal with love, loss, hate, envy, greed, regret, disappointment and so many other emotions that we all experience. Most importantly, there are families.
I write with six other authors in the Aspen Gold Series which is set in the fictitious town of Spencer, Colorado. Each author writes their own style of book, some sweet, some sexy, some paranormal, but all set in Spencer. All the books are standalone.
My books are essentially a series within a series. My characters have made a family, bound by friendships which is just as strong (maybe stronger) than blood. Hunter Lawe and Ruby from Sleepin’ Alone have created their chosen family. Another Night Alone is the most recent addition. But don’t miss my short story, Racing Heart, about the Gonzales family in Yesterday’s Promise, an Aspen Gold Short Story Collection.
Come visit the family. I think you’ll feel welcomed and at home.
Look for JackDaniels and Breezy’s story, A Better Man, coming out in early 2022.
PS: I’d love to hear what you think of the new covers!

Bernadette Jones has been making up stories since she learned to read on her daddy’s lap. She has imagined casts of characters everywhere she’s called home: Texas, Oregon, Washington, South Dakota, Nebraska, Illinois, Massachusetts, and now New York.
Books and music filled her life as she, her dad and two brothers traveled the country. She would sit in the back seat of the car—her older brother always got to ride shotgun—listening to the current music on the radio, looking out the window and spinning a story based on a phrase she’d heard in the lyrics. As you can imagine, traveling the country, the music changed from state to state, as did the stories. To this day, she enjoys a wide variety of music and book genres.
After a career in corporate writing, she’s decided to settle down and put pen to paper doing what she loves. Living the dream in her NYC apartment with her canine companion, she’s bringing her stories and characters to life.

Tell us about yourself as a person.
What makes you different from other people?
I can be quite eccentric. I spend a lot of time in my head thinking about my character’s lives more than my own.
What is your personality type?
I’m actually quite shy until I get to know you. I like being sociable but I also like time on my own. Perfect for writing!
What was your favorite childhood game?
Anything make believe – playing shops probably. I had a pretend post office and supermarket set when I was little and loved pretending to serve my family.
What is your favorite subject to talk about?
Books! I spend a lot of time talking about books because I’ve got so many on the go.
What is your favorite book?
If I had to pin it down to just one and that is so hard, I’d say Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. It’s a classic but still my favourite.
What is your favorite meal?
Spaghetti Bolognese or anything with pasta in!
Tell us about yourself as a writer.
What made you want to be a writer?
I’ve always loved telling stories, as a child I used to make little books about the places I’d visited. As I grew older, I put my imagination to one side, thinking I’d had to find a ‘real job.’ Life has a way of surprising you.
What are your favorite books for writing advice?
Save the Cat by Jessica Brody, Romancing the Beat by Gwen Hayes.
What are your favorite reference books?
I prefer to read 1st hand accounts. During the first lockdown here in the UK, I read a lot of biographies of nurses in the first world war.
When you go to a convention, what kinds of things do you take along?
Pens, notebooks, water, a lovely bright scarf to wear. I have lots of scarfs- too many but they always cheer me up when I wear one.
What’s your best advice for a new writer?
Just start writing and don’t go back and judge your work until you’ve finished a 1st draft.
What are your writing goals for the next year or so?
Start a new book. I’m leaving behind The Leaves of Change Cafe Series and starting a new romance book.
