The Gift of Yesterday, Sweet Christmas Kisses 4 Milou Koenings @MilouKoenings #RLFblog #romance

Welcome Milou Koenings, author of The Gift of Yesterday, a new sweet romance in the Sweet Christmas Kisses 4 collection.

Why did you write this book?
The Gift of Yesterday, my contribution to Sweet Christmas Kisses 4, 14-novella box set, is the fifth in the Green Pines Romance series. The hero appears in several of the previous books, and he is such a great guy, he certainly deserved a romance of his own.
What is your favorite genre to read?
Romance, of course. I need those happy endings!
Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?
Lately, I’ve found myself fascinated by Johnny Tremain. It’s a classic we had to read in fourth grade, but I always loved the book. It’s fascinating to me how reading the same book at different stages in life can be such a different experience each time.
What are you working on at the moment?
The sixth book in the Green Pines series and another book that’s more in the women’s fiction/chick lit genre.
What books will we see from you in coming months?
Right now I’m focusing on the launch of Sweet Christmas Kisses 4, and then in November, I’ll be releasing The Gift of Yesterday as a stand-alone novella, independent of the box set.
Please tell us about your latest book.
    Genre: Sweet Romance

The Ultimate Road Trip #Memoir Linda Brendle @LindaBrendle #RLFblog #RoadTrip

The Ultimate Road Trip #Memoir Linda Brendle @LindaBrendle #RLFblog #RoadTripLinda Brendle author of A Long and Winding Road: A Caregiver’s Tale of Life, Love, and Chaos answers five easy questions.

    Please tell us about yourself.
I cared for my parents — both of whom had dementia – for 15 years. I began writing in the hope of maintaining my sanity and of encouraging, inspiring, and amusing other caregivers, and anyone going through a difficult time, with my experiences.

I’m a life-begins-at-50 kind of gal. I received my BAS in management and psychology at 51, found new love at 52, learned to ride a motorcycle at 56, and published my first book after I began collecting Social Security. My husband David and I live outside a small East Texas town with a cat named Kitty who adopted us a couple of years ago. I am a blogger, a correspondent for our local weekly newspaper, and I work as the part-time secretary at my church in order to support my writing habit.

What’s your favorite down-home family style meal?
I like a wide variety of foods, but this would probably my favorite menu because it’s David’s favorite. Half the fun of cooking is seeing someone enjoy what you put on the table!
Pork roast with carrots and potatoes
Purple hull peas or speckled butter beans
    Fried okra
    Cornbread
Blackberry cobbler with a scoop of Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla
    Lemonade
    Coffee with dessert

    Describe the perfect vacation.
The trip I described in my memoir was nearly perfect. The chaos of caring for two people with dementia was a bit of a distraction, but we managed to make some beautiful memories anyway. The perfect vacation would be one without a time limit – a time when David and I could drive around the country in our motor home, stopping when we found something of interest and moving on when the spirit moved us. There are many amazing sights we have yet to see and many friendly people we have yet to meet. A year or so on the road is definitely on our bucket list.
Tell us about your favorite toy as a child.
My favorite toy was my older brother Jim. He is five years my senior, and he was always much more interesting than any doll or game in my toy box. As my mom used to say, he was always “hatching up” something, and I always wanted to be involved.
When you read for pleasure, what kind of books do you choose?
My choice of recreational reading is an odd one for the author of a memoir. Ever since I discovered my first Agatha Christie novel in the fifth grade, I have been a fan of tales of mystery and suspense. After I read everything Christie had to offer, I moved on to Dick Francis, Sue Grafton, Robert B. Parker, and others too numerous to mention. A couple of years ago, I decided to try my hand at a suspense novel of my own. If anything comes of it, I’ll let you know.
If the hero of your latest book called you on the phone, what would be a perfect ringtone for him?
My husband David has been a motorcycle rider since his uncle taught him to ride an old Cushman when he was nine years old. His perfect ringtone would be the sound of a Harley engine being revved as loud as possible. Many readers of A Long and Winding Road  have commented that David is the real hero of my story because of all the love and support he gave to me and my parents during my caregiving experience.

Please tell us about your latest book.

Alzheimer’s is a family disease, and this is a love story – not a boy meets girls love story, but a family love story. It is the story of the love between a daughter and her parents and her willingness to take them into her home when they could no longer care for themselves; the story of a mother and a father who loved their daughter but no longer remembered exactly where they were or why; the story of a husband who loved his wife so much that he stood beside her as they fought to survive the ravages of the brain-wasting disease that was stealing her loved ones away a piece at a time. It’s also the story of a seven-week trip for four across sixteen U.S. states in a forty-foot motor home – a trip that involved stopped up toilets, wet jeans, laughter, and headaches that were far from the easygoing retirement the Brendles had imagined for themselves.

Linda Brendle takes you on a roller-coaster ride of emotional and spiritual challenges that many families are facing right now. Co-dependency, mental breakdowns, and finding love after divorce are just a few of the issues weaved into this journey of caregiving.
    Genre: Creative Non-Fiction/Memoir
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG – No heat, but the subject matter might be a little intense for the younger reader.

Breakup in a Small Town by Kristina Knight @AuthorKristina #RLFblog #contemporary

Breakup in a Small Town by Kristina Knight @AuthorKristina #RLFblog #contemporaryKristina Knight, author of Breakup in a Small Town, answers five easy questions.

    Please tell us about yourself.
Once upon a time, Kristina Knight spent her days running from car crash to fire to meetings with local police–no, she wasn’t a troublemaker, she was a journalist. Her career took her all over the United States, writing about everything from a serial killer’s capture to the National Finals Rodeo. Along the way, she found her very own Knight in Shining Cowboy Boots and an abiding love for romance novels. And just like the characters from her favorite books, she’s living her own happily ever after.
Kristina writes sassy contemporary romance novels; her books have appeared on Kindle Best Seller Lists. She loves hearing from readers, so drop her a line!
What’s your favorite down-home family style meal?
RadioMan is a master griller, so during the summer and fall months, he takes on a lot of the cooking duties. When I’m cooking, though, I like meals that taste amazing, but that aren’t hugely time consuming. No Peek Chicken is one of my favorites because it’s so easy (1 can of Cream of Chicken soup, 1 box of Chicken flavored rice, 4 boneless chicken breasts). You mix the soup and the rice, put the chicken breasts on top of them, sprinkle a little paprika and cover with tin foil to bake for a couple of hours. Perfection!
What is your go-to meal when you dine out?
There are so many! We have a fab Mexican restaurant in town and their chicken fajitas are seriously amazing…I think I could eat there every day and not get tired of the food!
What’s your favorite hashtag to watch on Twitter?
The live streaming ones! I love following along on Twitter during reality TV (especially their finales and reunion shows)!
    Describe the perfect vacation.
It’s me, RadioMan, and bebe. Warm weather, a nice beach, maybe some snorkeling, and no schedules. I’m a simple girl, really.
What kinds of things do you read when you’re researching a new book?
I write mainly contemporary, so there isn’t a lot of time-specific research I have to do, but if I have a character who is, for example, a brain surgeon, I would read a bit about their daily lives, the kind of education they’d have. That sort of thing…and if there is a memoir out from someone in a field that one of my characters is in, that’s a must-read for me!
If the hero of your latest book called you on the phone, what would be a perfect ringtone for him?
Adam’s ringtone…hmm…May We All by Florida Georgia Line. Adam loves his small town life, and he would like everyone to experience it, so that song totally fits him.

    Stefan’s Salvation by NJ Walters @njwaltersauthor #RLFblog #PNR

Stefan's Salvation by NJ Walters @njwaltersauthor #RLFblog #PNRNJ Walters author of Stefan’s Salvation answers five easy questions.
    Please tell us about yourself.
NJ Walters is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author who has always been a voracious reader, and now she spends her days writing novels of her own. Vampires, werewolves, dragons, time-travelers, seductive handymen, and next-door neighbors with smoldering good looks—all vie for her attention. It’s a tough life, but someone’s got to live it.
Tell us about your favorite toy as a child.
That’s a tough one, because it depends on the age. I never really had a favorite that I kept over the years. I did save up my money and buy a pack of white chalk and an chalkboard eraser. I’d tape construction paper to my closet door and use it as a blackboard. (This was long before blackboard paint was readily available.) I’d spend hours pretending to be a teacher. I also saved up and bought a stamp pad and date stamp. (Today these things are easily obtained, but back in the early 70s, they were harder to come by.) I’d tape blank cards in the back of my books and play library.
    What are your hobbies?
I read…a lot. No surprise there. I also enjoy going to the movies, specifically the afternoon matinee, as there are never that many people there at that time of day. I like to sit three rows back from the front. There is rarely anyone sitting in front of me, so it feels like my own private showing. I also love to explore thrift stores. You never know what you’re going to find.
When you read for pleasure, what kind of books do you choose?
I love reading romance. I especially enjoy paranormal, contemporary, and historical romance. But I also love to read spiritual and self-help books. I usually have a fiction and nonfiction book going at the same time.
What kinds of things do you read when you’re researching a new book?
It really depends on the book. Some books need minimal research, while others need a whole lot more. Over the years, I’ve researched some pretty fun stuff from antique carnival rides (Hades’ Carnival series) to private planes (Drakon’s Promise). I’ve watched videos about Transylvania (Dalakis Passion series) and the Trans-Siberian Railroad (upcoming book), and spent hours looking at the tourist websites for various towns and cities. One of the fun things about writing is getting the opportunity to explore jobs I’ve never had and places I’ve never been. I get to go on an adventure.
If the hero of your latest book called you on the phone, what would be a perfect ringtone for him?
For Stefan, it would probably be Burn by the Cure. It’s from the movie The Crow and I love that song. Or possibly Highway to hell by AC/DC.
Please tell us about your latest book.
    Genre Paranormal Romance

    Quest of a Warrior by Mary Morgan @m_morganauthor #RLFblog #Paranormal #Romance

Quest of a Warrior by Mary Morgan @m_morganauthor #RLFblog #Paranormal #RomanceMary Morgan, author of Quest of a Warrior, answers five easy questions.
    Please tell us about yourself.
Award-winning Scottish paranormal romance author, Mary Morgan, resides in Northern California, with her own knight in shining armor. However, during her travels to Scotland, England, and Ireland, she left a part of her soul in one of these countries and vows to return.
Mary’s passion for books started at an early age along with an overactive imagination. She spent far too much time daydreaming and was told quite often to remove her head from the clouds. It wasn’t until the closure of Borders Books where Mary worked that she found her true calling–writing romance. Now, the worlds she created in her mind are coming to life within her stories.
What is your go-to meal when you dine out?
I love going to pubs, so it’s usually fish and chips or hamburger, a big salad and a Guinness.
    Describe the perfect vacation.
Spending time anywhere in Scotland or Ireland. I was fortunate to visit the Orkney Islands, north of Scotland in June. I wandered through ancient ruins, stood on cliffs near the ocean, and soaked in the mystique of the land. Pure bliss! I’m longing to return.
When you read for pleasure, what kind of books do you choose?
I read in all genres, in particular, historical fiction and non-fiction. I’m fascinated with history. I blame it on James Michener. When I read “Hawaii” at seventeen, I became hooked on historical books. Currently, I’m reading “Victoria” by Daisy Goodwin.
What kinds of things do you read when you’re researching a new book?
Everything—from historical books, travel magazines, world maps, and articles on the internet. Since my stories are based in Scotland and Ireland, I’m constantly searching out new and fascinating tidbits of knowledge. In addition, I’m a lover of Celtic mythology, so I enjoy reading about the legendary tales from these countries.
If the hero of your latest book called you on the phone, what would be a perfect ringtone for him?
