    Flynn’s Assassin by NJ Walters

    Genre Science Fiction Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

When mercenary and space trader Flynn Marks is approached by a woman in a seedy bar, he assumes she’s not just looking for a good time. He’s made enemies over the course of his life. With his family finally safe and settled, he’ll handle this latest threat on his own.

Cerena Phelps has been tasked with killing a man if she ever wants to see her teenage son again. While she’s no stranger to fights–being a woman bouncer is a tough job–she’s never killed a man. Her plan? Lure Flynn away from the bar, seduce him, and kill him when his guard is down. Not a hardship given her unexpected and intense sexual attraction for her target. When her attempt on Flynn’s life fails, they must learn to trust each other if they both hope to survive and rescue her son.

    Describe the perfect vacation.

I love the beach! And not a sandy, sunny beach, but a rocky one filled with shells, driftwood, and treasures washed up by the waves. I have a small collection of beach glass I’ve gathered over the years. I love interesting rocks and shells. After a day beachcombing, I’d love to sit around a campfire and watch the night sky. And on bad weather days, I’d curl up with a good book or two.

    What are your hobbies?

I love to read. No surprise there. I also enjoy going to movies. I’ll see over thirty a year in the theatre. I enjoy going to the afternoon shows when it’s quieter. I love a good yard sale or thrift store. It’s the search for that next “treasure.” Not necessarily anything worth money, but something I’ll love.

When you read for pleasure, what kind of books do you choose?

I read a lot of romance over different genres–contemporary, paranormal, futuristic, historical, suspense. It all depends on my mood. I like to mix it up. I also read nonfiction, some work related, but much of it is spiritual and personal growth books.

What kinds of things do you read when you’re researching a new book?

That always depends on what I’m writing. Sometimes I’ll read nonfiction books to learn more about a place or a skill. I’ve used maps and guide books to become better acquainted with other counties and settings. I’ve used Google Maps to “walk” the streets of a city where I set a book. I’ve watched many YouTube videos. You can find almost anything you need online.

For example, when I wanted to research the Trans-Siberian Railway I viewed many YouTube videos posted by people who took the train trip. I wanted to see what the trains looked like and how they were broken down by class. I also bought a Russian guidebook (much like the one the heroine uses in the book) for language and travel information. I used all that information and more in Drakon’s Tear.

In a book like Flynn’s Assassin, which is futuristic, much of it came from my imagination. I have to be careful when creating worlds to stay consistent. It’s so much fun but a lot of work as I have to make notes about everything.

If the hero of your latest book called you on the phone, what would be a perfect ringtone for him?

Flynn Marks is a dangerous space mercenary, so his ringtone would have to be badass. I’m thinking “Wrong Side of Heaven” by Five Finger Death Punch.

The Chieftain’s Secret by Mageela Troche

    Genre Historical Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

    On a windswept Scottish Isle…

Many objects wash up on the shores of the rugged Isle of Mull. The Laird of Lochbuie never expected a pregnant wife to be included in that. Honorable Niall MacLean was wed to his childhood love when she died in childbirth. Now a widower, he struggles to get beyond his grief. Then a dear friend, Ermina Bruce pleaded for his help. His protective instinct came alive and he handfasted with Ermina to save her from an unsuitable marriage and one drunken night has led to forever after and a repeat of his past heartbreak.

    The bonds of friendship…

Noble Ermina Bruce has loved Niall MacLean since he first fostered in her uncle’s home. But he loved another so she settled for the deep bonds of friendship. When her family arranged a marriage she didn’t want she knew Niall could save her from that miserable fate.

    One night of passion…

That one night in Niall’s arms led to her pregnancy. Ermina has not told Niall of their secret baby. But his reaction isn’t her greatest fear. Her fear is even greater than the brave laird’s wrath. Every woman in her family has died in childbirth and all know the same fate awaits her. Once again, Ermina knows Niall is the only one who can save her. And if he fails, her last days shall be with the man she has loved since childhood.

Will love have a chance to come alive?

What is your go-to meal when you dine out?

I love pizza. Nothing in this whole world is as perfect as pizza.

    Describe the perfect vacation.

I’m dying to travel to Rome. Pizza, history and art—that sounds like perfection to me.

Tell us about your favorite toy as a child.

My favorite toys were my crayons. They had to be the 64 Crayola crayons. You couldn’t rip off the paper or press too hard. And if the point broke I had to get a whole new box. One time when I lived in Florida, I wanted my crayons to get some sun and put them in the window. Of course, they melted. I cried and wailed until I got a new box.

When you read for pleasure, what kind of books do you choose?

I love reading. Of course, I read romance. But I love history and historical biographies. I also love mysteries. I hate reading anything that has a sad ending so I rarely read literary novels. I don’t want to be rooting for a character for them to die at the end. Real life has enough hardships and I don’t want to deal with that in book.

What kinds of things do you read when you’re researching a new book?

Since I write highlander historical romance, I read a lot of historical sources, primary and secondary. I also read biographies as well as academic papers.

Read Windmaster Legend by Helen Henderson @history2write #RLFblog #Fantasy #RomanceHelen Henderson, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

    Windmaster Legend by Helen Henderson

    Genre Fantasy Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG

A forbidden love. An impossible quest. The accusation of witchcraft. Can love survive?

What history and time may conceal sometimes refuses to stay lost in memory. Windmaster Legend reveals the story behind the legend of the star-crossed lovers, Iol of the House of Cszabo and Pelra of the House of Pirri.

Fate conspired to keep Iol and Pelra apart. Friendship is allowed between members of competing trading houses, but nothing more. He loves the sea and wants his own ship. She hates the deep blue and has worked too hard to allow her dreams to be sidetracked by the lure of magic. Despite a beautiful woman on his arm every night, Leod wanted the one he couldn’t have—Pelra. His kin on the ruling council did more than put him on the fast track to his own ship. It provided him the power to fulfill his desires, or to ruin those who refused him.

Exiled to distant posts, given impossible challenges, and subject to Leod’s machinations, Iol and Pelra only have the hope of a future together to sustain them. But can their love survive the accusation of witchcraft?

What is your go-to meal when you dine out?

First off, I want to state that I love scallops. Apologies to those of southern heritage, but to me seafood is shrimp, lobster, and scallops. Not catfish. However that is the fish staple in my neck of the woods so fried scallops are off the wish list. Instead, on the special occasion when I’m dining out, steak with a sweet potato loaded with cinnamon brown sugar and freshly churned butter fills the plate. For a healthier alternative to cake, a side dish of fried apples is split amongst those in attendance. If it is a really, really special night out and I’m at a certain steakhouse, instead of water, a desert drink will be splurged upon. Not to violate any trademark, the drink is described as a “Down under frozen wonder with peaches, schnapps, champagne, vodka and secret mixers.”

Tell us about your favorite toy as a child.

First off I have to state that my childhood was a long…long…time ago. The tire swing on the huge, old Weeping Willow tree doesn’t really count as a toy so I sent my mind rummaging amidst the fog. There was a Barbie doll case with both store-bought and handmade clothes for the winsome blond, jacks for inside games, and badminton racquet and birdie for outside. And, while they may not qualify as a “toy,” books, books, and more books is my answer to what was my favorite.

    What are your hobbies?

Over the years I’ve dabbled in photography, sketching, and a little painting. Handicraft projects help keep fingers nimble and flexible. Beadwork, crocheting, knitting, and cross-stitch embroidery not only serve the physical purpose, they provide a creative outlet as well. These days between writing and caregiving, the only hobby I can claim is reading an occasional book.

When you read for pleasure, what kind of books do you choose?

I like to hang out with mages, fly with dragons and journey amidst the stars so science fiction and fantasy are my go-to genres when I read for pleasure. When I want a change of pace, I pull historical fiction, especially tales of the Old West off the shelf.

If the hero of your latest book called you on the phone, what would be a perfect ringtone for him?

Although the official question qualified “your latest book,” I didn’t want to make the Archmage of the World nor any of the other heroes I’ve written angry at me. I really try to remain on good terms with dragons. And it really didn’t matter as the same ringtones came to mind for almost all of them. The first tune is “The Lonely Man.” For those not familiar with it, “Lonely Man” is the haunting reprise played at the end of “The Incredible Hulk” television series as David Banner walks alone down the highway. The ringtone represents the hero’s desperation and his time alone.

Then there is the second triumphant ringtone when they hear a call and realize their searches may actually end. This need is fulfilled by “I Need A Hero.” Not because the hero comes to someone’s rescue. No, the heroine is quite capable of handling things on her own. However, she too is lonely and needs someone who is capable of fighting alongside her.
