Her Bluegrass Beau by Carol Preflatish

Genre: contemporary romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
Thank you for hosting me today, Kayelle.
Karri Taylor needed to get out of California and away from her ex-boyfriend. She couldn’t think of a better time than now to visit the Kentucky farm she inherited from her great-aunt.
Jake Duncan is the definition of a perfect southern gentleman and it doesn’t take long for Karri take an interest. From helping him nurse his sick horse back to health to meeting the neighbors, she develops an affection for both Jake and the many attributes of the Bluegrass State.
Her plan was to sell the farm and head back home. But, when a blizzard hits, the plan changes. She’s stranded at the farmhouse until Jake comes to the rescue. With the lack of enough food and discovering the generator stolen, the only thing she can do is accept Jake’s offer to stay with him until power is restored.
During her time with Jake, she learns that a big company is trying to buy all the farms in the area, against the wishes of the neighbors. She’s torn between selling her farm and go back home where she owns a business, or stay in Kentucky and start all over.
What’s your favorite down-home family style meal?
As an adult, it’s fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, and biscuits with butter. Believe it or not, as a child I loved salmon patties, fried potatoes, and cream corn. I have to say that my mother made the best fried potatoes.
Describe the perfect vacation.
A week at a cabin in the mountains is my perfect vacation. My husband and I usually do that at least once or twice a year. My favorite thing is to drink my morning coffee on the porch and enjoy the sounds and smells of the mountains.
What are your hobbies?
I love to go camping. We graduated up from a tent and bought a camper. I’m looking forward to trying it out this summer. During the winter, I love to watch NFL football. I also love to watch old movies, which makes me sit on the couch way too much. I also love photography.
When you read for pleasure, what kind of books do you choose?
I love to read crime mysteries. I love James Patterson and Robert B. Parker books, but I’m always looking for new mystery authors to read.
What kinds of things do you read when you’re researching a new book?
I mostly do research online and read web sites from locations that I want to use in my book. I also use sites to research names and sometimes crimes. I do have a couple books on forensics and on weapons that I refer to often during my writing.

The Man of Her Dreams by Dee S Knight @DeeSKnight #RLFblog #paranormalromance #psychic #PNRDee S Knight, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

The Man of Her Dreams by Dee S Knight

Genre Paranormal erotic romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
What’s your favorite down-home family style meal?
I’m an Iowa girl at heart, so pork chops, mashed potatoes and corn. Add corn bread and butter and some kind of dessert, and I’ll swear I’ve died and gone to heaven!
What is your go-to meal when you dine out?
A burger. If I’m feeling particularly fancy, it might be a mushroom Swiss burger. Yum!
Who is your “book boyfriend” (that hottie you read about and drool over)?
It might be cliché, but I love Fitzwilliam Darcy. Still. After reading Pride and Prejudice many, many years ago. Lots of people think Colin Firth is the best Darcy, but I prefer David Rintoul from the 1980 BBC production. And “reading” him is even better. I know he’s not a typical hunk, but he makes me heart go pitter-patter.
When you read for pleasure, what kind of books do you choose?
Romance (of course!) of all sub-genre, legal thrillers, regular thrillers, like with spies, terrorists, serial killers, etc.
If the hero of your latest book called you on the phone, what would be a perfect ringtone for him?
Van Halen’s “Hot for Teacher.” Daniel Goodman is a teacher and he is something else!

Dee S Knight Social Media

A few years ago, Dee S Knight began writing, making getting up in the morning fun. During the day, her characters killed people, fell in love, became drunk with power, or sober with responsibility. And they had sex, lots of sex. Writing was so much fun Dee decided to keep at it. That’s how she spends her days. Her nights? Well, she’s lucky that her dream man, childhood sweetheart, and long-time hubby are all the same guy, and nights are their secret.

Always Forward! Never Straight by Charley Descoteaux @CharleyDescote #RLFblog #mmromance #biromanceCharley Descoteaux, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

Always Forward! Never Straight by Charley Descoteaux

Contemporary MM Romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R (Four Flames, explicit scenes for mature readers only.)
Love isn’t a sprint, it’s a marathon.
Baxter Bryan is the nerdy half of BaxCo, a start-up in Portland’s Silicon Forest creating cutting-edge high-tech toys. He’s also a hermit. When BaxCo sponsors the Portland Rock and Roll Half Marathon, Bryan decides to break out of his comfort zone and do more than listen to the music with a beer in hand. The race has barely started when he bumps into a fit, handsome man, causing sparks to fly. But the long hours needed to make BaxCo a success aren’t the only reason Bryan spends most of his time alone in his apartment.
Cay Nissen runs every day to stay in shape. He would love to run away from his job in a Silicon Forest cube farm, but keeps returning to support his teenaged daughter. His true love is music. Cay writes songs for the band he helped form in high school but doesn’t see any way to turn music into a career. The half marathon seemed like a decent way to pass a Saturday, make his boss happy, and catch a performance of his old band all at the same time. When he meets a man who sparks his interest, the safety of his cubicle isn’t the only part of his life that’s in jeopardy of changing.
What is your go-to meal when you dine out?
Breakfast. I love breakfast food and am happy to eat it for any meal or even a midnight snack! My favorite breakfast when I’m out is two eggs over medium, extra crispy hash browns, bacon, and sourdough toast with real butter. Mmmmmm… Not the most inspired meal, but it’s comfort food.
What’s your favorite hashtag to watch on Twitter?
I watch a lot of writing and LGBTQIA+ related hashtags, and I think my favorite of them all is #1linewed. Every Wednesday a bunch of writers and poets in all genres drop lines based on a theme (or not, whatever they want to do) and it’s so much fun to get a tiny peek into what everyone is working on! I try to play every week—I look at my words differently when one line is all I get. Plus, it’s free and pre-registration isn’t required, so I can procrastinate!
Describe the perfect vacation.
So many vacations are on my list, but I think my overall favorite is to go to the beach. I’m lucky and will be heading to the Oregon coast over MLK weekend for a writer’s retreat. This will be the second year a group of us are renting a beach house to write, edit, share tips, and eat, drink, and laugh a lot! Writing can be such a solitary pursuit, it’s so wonderful to be able to spend time with other writers. I’m really looking forward to it!
What are your hobbies?
Besides reading I love to knit. I tend to have a few projects going at once, usually at least one I would call a “mindless knit” so I can sit and ponder a story while my hands are engaged, and one that’s more challenging. The intricate patterns are great for getting my mind off a stressful day at work, or just learning a new stitch pattern for its own sake. I’m not a huge fan of lacy things but those patterns are some of the most complex and fun so I’ve made a few.
When you read for pleasure, what kind of books do you choose?
This may sound odd, but I love YA. Especially Urban Fantasy or Contemporary Paranormal written for the upper age-range of the YA genre. I started reading it for research and have stayed for the imaginative plots and the relationships that aren’t romantic. Don’t get me wrong, I read a lot of YA UF Romances, and even those seem to pay more attention to friendships and family relationships than a lot of adult books I’ve come across.

Charley Descoteaux is the author of the Buchanan House Love Stories. Book One was a USA Today Must-Read Romance.
Charley has always heard voices. She was relieved to learn they were fictional characters, and started writing when they insisted daydreaming just wasn’t good enough. Freedom's Path by Linda Carroll-Bradd @lcarrollbradd #RLFblog #historical #romanceLinda Carroll-Bradd, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

Freedom’s Path by Linda Carroll-Bradd

Genre historical romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG
As a maid in the Deerbourne Inn, freedom-fighter Sidonie Demers has the perfect cover for helping escaping slaves on the Underground Railroad. The patterns in her quilts serve as messages directing them to the safest route. The cause is personal for octoroon Sidonie whose mother and grandmother escaped bondage years earlier.
Army Corporal Colin Crawford arrives in Willow Springs, disguised as a salesman, to locate abolitionist activity. Raised detesting slavery, he’s conflicted about upholding the Fugitive Slave Act but believes in laws and fulfilling his duty.
The attraction between Colin and Sidonie is irresistible, but what happens when their true identities are revealed?
What’s your favorite down-home family style meal?
I’ve always been partial to lasagna, which has become a bit of a challenge since hubby and I switched to mostly vegan cuisine.
Describe the perfect vacation.
Traveling to a place I’ve never been before (doesn’t matter if mountains or desert) with lots of historic buildings and/or museums to visit.
Tell us about your favorite toy as a child.
I had several plastics horses and sent my Barbie and Ken dolls on adventures to foreign countries or to times in the past.
When you read for pleasure, what kind of books do you choose?
A genre I’m not writing. If my current WIP is historical, then I read contemporary and vice versa. I read a lot of mysteries, especially by Swedish and Norwegian authors–must be tied to my Scandinavian DNA.
What kinds of things do you read when you’re researching a new book?
I love reading firsthand accounts of an area, the history of the location, and the types of people who settled there. I write mostly in the latter half of the 1800s so lots of my books include characters who have lived through the emigrant experience. I have AAA tour books of many states, and often a little-known fact of an actual occurrence fits in my story timeline.

Refugee Trail by Tracy Falbe @tracyfalbe #RLFblog #fantasyTracy Falbe, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

Refugee Trail by Tracy Falbe

My inspiration for this novella came from thinking about refugees who must literally walk away from their ruined homes and into the unknown. It tells the story of the young hero, Myles. He’s the leader of a band of survivors from a terrible war. They are pursued by slave hunters.
Genre: Fantasy
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG13
Myles and his people are now bereft of their ancient Kadolia magic. Their Elders say that the magic came from their homeland and that it is gone forever. They are scrambling desperately through badlands to stay ahead of Lasher slave hunters when a faction of survivors wants to turn back and surrender. Annihilation looms until Myles senses the return of his power.
What’s your favorite down-home family style meal?
Although it’s a bunch of work to prepare, I love doing a fish fry with fish that the family has caught, especially bluegill because they are available in quantity and truly delicious.
Describe the perfect vacation.
My perfect vacation reveals my introversion. I would love to go to a writer’s retreat in a secluded natural settings. All meals would be prepared for me, and I would have my own room. My family is NOT there, but I might like to have my dog. I won’t have to do a single thing except sleep, write, and take walks. My perfect vacation with the family would be the same thing: full-service setting where I perform no menial labor whatsoever.
What are your hobbies?
I grow fruit and vegetables. I raise and breed French angora wool rabbits. I’ve been learning to spin wool, so that’s a newer hobby for me. I bake pies.
When you read for pleasure, what kind of books do you choose?
I read all manner of books. I’ve always got my eye out for a good fantasy or sci fi, but I tend to read nonfiction. I like to read about hunting, survival, memoirs, true crime, psychology, politics, demographics, and history. Two of my most recent reads were American Buffalo: In Search of a Lost Icon by Steven Rinella and Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain.
What kinds of things do you read when you’re researching a new book?
Research materials vary. I might be looking for details to make elements in a story feel authentic. Like I’ll look up human anatomy to determine wounds I can deliver that someone could conceivable heal from. I’ll read things about shamanism, witchcraft, and various mythology. I seek out materials for character research too because I want insights into human experiences. Two of my novels had elements that dealt with child soldiers, so I read articles about that. For my historical fantasies, I’ve focused a lot on clothing, art, religion, and politics.

I was born in Michigan in 1972 and grew up in Mount Pleasant. It’s called the “Mountain Town” but there is no mountain and it’s debatable about whether it’s pleasant. They say it’s a party town and based on extensive research as a young adult I can concur.
Because I always had the childhood fantasy of running away and joining the circus, I moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1995 and lived there until 1997. Those who only stay a week are wimps, but I will say that it’s the second year in Vegas that wears you down. Then I realized the pioneers were trying to get to California, so I moved to Chico, in Northern California and lived there until 2009.
In 2000, I earned a journalism degree from California State University, Chico with the conscious ambition of becoming a fiction writer. With the rapid demise of the newspaper industry and journalism in general, novelist is not such a daft pursuit after all. It’s not like I’m actually going to get a job that values my education. Luckily I’m cursed with the impulse to write in a popular yet competitive genre.
My wandering has circled back and I’m currently residing in Battle Creek, Michigan, and for now my existence within the post-apocalyptic Rust Belt is suitably fascinating.

Christina's Tapestry by NJ Walters @njwaltersauthor #RLFblog #timetravel #romanceNJ Walters author of Christina’s Tapestry answers five easy questions.
Please tell us about yourself.
NJ Walters is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author who has always been a voracious reader, and now she spends her days writing novels of her own. Vampires, werewolves, dragons, time-travelers, seductive handymen, and next-door neighbors with smoldering good looks—all vie for her attention. It’s a tough life, but someone’s got to live it.
What is your go-to meal when you dine out?
One of my treats is to take myself out for breakfast twice a week. Working from home, it gets too easy to just stay inside. It’s my way of making sure I don’t become a complete hermit. I usually get whole wheat toast and a scrambled egg. I know, so exciting. But I enjoy curling up with my breakfast and a large cup of tea and reading a good book.
Who is your “book boyfriend” (that hottie you read about and drool over)?
Only one? It’s so hard to choose just one. There are so many amazing book boyfriends to choose from. Right off the top of my head, I’d say Rhage from J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series. I mean, who doesn’t want a badass who can turn into a dragon.
Kaleb Krychek from Nalini Singh’s Heart of Obsidian is a close second. This man is willing to destroy anyone and anything that gets in the way of finding his woman. He won’t stop until he finds her. *sigh*
Describe the perfect vacation.
For a quiet vacation, I enjoy the beach. I’m not talking about lying on a soft, sandy beach sipping a drink. I’m more about beachcombing on a rugged shoreline. You never know what you might find. I’ve found a coin from a hundred years ago and have a decent beach glass collection. I love to wander up and down a beach. I can spend hours doing that. It’s endlessly fascinating.
What kinds of things do you read when you’re researching a new book?
The fun thing about writing is that you never know where the research might take you. I research a lot of places. Currently it’s Alaska. Checking out guidebooks and maps and websites. YouTube is a great help as well. I also spent some time checking out knives and knife fighting. Wow, there are some amazing people out there. And it was an excuse to watch more Forged in Fire episodes on TV.
If the hero of your latest book called you on the phone, what would be a perfect ringtone for him?
Since Jarek and Marc live in a world that doesn’t have phones, if they heard one ring they’d most likely smash it to bits with their swords. That would be fun to watch.
Please tell us about your latest book.
Genre fantasy erotic romance
