Read A Room in Blake's Folly the new #WesternHistorical by J Arlene Culiner @JArleneCuliner #RLFblog #Contemporary #WesternBack in 1889, when Blake’s Folly boasted three silver mines, many saloons and brothels, the adventurer, Westley Cranston, fell in love with Sookie Lacey a former prostitute. Their powerful romance was doomed but never forgotten, and the repercussions could be felt 130 years later. The six stories in A Room in Blake’s Folly tell the tale.

J Arlene Culiner, I’m happy to host you on Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Tell us about your book.

A Room in Blake’s Folly by J Arlene Culiner

Genre Historical to Contemporary Western Romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): sensual

In one hundred and fifty years, Blake’s Folly, a silver boomtown notorious for its brothels, scarlet ladies, silver barons, speakeasies, and divorce ranches, has become a semi-ghost town. Although the old Mizpah Saloon is still in business, its upper floor is sheathed in dust. But in a room at a long corridor’s end, an adventurer, a beautiful dance girl, and a rejected wife were once caught in a love triangle, and their secret has touched three generations.

    Tell Us About Your Cover

Why did you write this book?

I wanted to show the Far West as it really was, without the cowboy myths, without the shootouts and without the happy mail-order bride fantasy. I felt that real people had to be portrayed with all their failures and successes.

What is your favorite genre to read?

I read many different sorts of books, but my favourite is literary travel.

Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?

The interfering and bossy Flora Post from Stella Gibbon’s delightful Cold Comfort Farm is a great favorite of mine. She can’t be fooled, but she sees the humour in everything.

What are you working on at the moment?

A non-fiction history of life on the Great Hungarian Plain.

What books will we see from you in coming months?

Two new versions of stories that are also set in Blake’s Folly, Nevada will be coming out this spring: All About Charming Alice and Desert Rose. Here are the blurbs:

    All About Charming Alice

Alice Treemont has no intention of falling in love. Living in Blake’s Folly, a semi-ghost town, she cooks vegetarian meals, rescues unwanted dogs, and protects the most unloved creatures on earth: snakes. What man would share those interests?

Jace Constant is in Nevada, doing research for his new book, but he won’t be staying. He’s disgusted by desert dust on his fine Italian shoes and dog hair on his cashmere sweaters. As for snakes, he doesn’t just despise them: they terrify him.

So why does the air sizzle each time Alice and Jace meet? A romance would entail far too many compromises.

    Desert Rose

Rose Badger is the local flirt, and if the other inhabitants of backwoods Blake’s Folly, Nevada, don’t approve, she couldn’t care less. With a disastrous marriage and a dead-end career far behind her, settling down is the last thing she intends to do. Newcomer Jonah Livingstone is intriguing, but with his complicated life, he’s off limits for anything other than friendship. Besides, Rose has a secret world of her own—one she won’t give up for any man.

The last person geologist Jonah Livingstone expected to meet in a semi-ghost town is the sparkling and lovely Rose Badger. But Rose, always surrounded by many admirers, doesn’t seem inclined to choose a favorite. So why fret? Jonah keeps his personal life well hidden…and that’s the best way to avoid disappointment.

Read Hunter Avenged the new #ParanormalRomance by NJ Walters @njwaltersauthor #RLFblog #RomanceBooksAn angelic librarian falls for the Immortal Viking tracking her in NJ Walters’ new paranormal romance book Hunter Avenged, the next exciting book in the Forgotten Brotherhood series.

NJ, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about Hunter Avenged.

    Hunter Avenged by NJ Walters

    Genre paranormal Romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

It’s taken Viking hunter Sven Knutson six frustrating months to find her. To track down the angel responsible for compromising the Forgotten Brotherhood and waking the drakon. She may be clever. Resourceful. But no one ever gets away from Sven. Ever.

All Rivka longed for as an angel was a chance to serve on Earth and help humans. Instead, it all went impossibly, horribly wrong, and she still doesn’t understand how or even why. All she knows is that she’s on the run—not only from Heaven’s dangerous elite guard, but also from the Brotherhood, who want answers.

She might just have to trust the immortal Viking whose icy blue eyes make her feel almost wickedly human. Because someone wants Rivka dead and the Brotherhood eliminated. Someone powerful enough to take on the most dangerous assassins who have ever lived. Someone who could unleash the fury of both Heaven and Hell…and Rivka is the key.

Why did you write this book?

When I met Sven in book 4 of the Forgotten Brotherhood series, Bjorn Cursed, I knew he had to have a book of his own. Hunter Avenged can be read as a standalone, but the storyline is connected to the previous books in the series. I love the Brotherhood so much. The series was originally planned to be four books, but I had more stories to tell.

What is your favorite genre to read?

Romance! I skip around between contemporary, historical, suspense, and paranormal romance. So many amazing books to choose from.

Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?

It’s impossible to pick only one. I have about a hundred—Eve Dallas from J.D. Robb’s In Death series, Kaleb Krychek from Nalini Singh’s Heart of Obsidian, Rhage from J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood, Vane Kattalakis from Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Night Play, and on and on and on…

What are you working on at the moment?

I’m working on the first book in a new paranormal romance trilogy—a great way to start the new year. As I’m a pantser, not a plotter, I’m curious to see where it will take me.

What books will we see from you in coming months?

I’ll have two books in a new werewolf trilogy releasing later this year. It’s totally self-contained and unrelated to any of my other series.

Read The Lady of a Sultan the new #VictorianRomance by Linda Rae Sande @lindaraesa #RLFblog #HistoricalRomance

Read The Lady of a Sultan the new #VictorianRomance by Linda Rae Sande @lindaraesa #RLFblog #HistoricalRomanceCaptured by pirates. Sold to a sultan. This is not how Charlotte expected to spend her holiday in Linda Rae Sande’s latest historical romance, The Lady Of A Sultan.

Linda Rae, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about The Lady of a Sultan.

The Lady of a Sultan by Linda Rae Sande

    Genre Victorian Romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

A dowager duchess recently out of mourning, Charlotte is on her way to a holiday in Greece when pirates overtake her ship and enslave her. When they attempt to sell her to a Turkish sultan, she’s sure she can convince the ruler to let her go. She’s a matron and mother to two grown sons—and he has a harem and nineteen children. Whatever could he want with her?

    Three nights, apparently.

For two decades, Sultan Ziyaeddin I has ruled his dwindling empire from several palaces in Constantinople, but the one on the edge of the Aegean Sea holds his most precious memories—and a precocious daughter who is overeducated for most men. Determined to introduce reforms, Ziyaeddin is far more enlightened than the sultans who came before him. Enlightened and alone. Convincing others of his vision for the empire has been a challenge.

Bored with his harem, he’s intrigued by the English woman who is unceremoniously dumped at his feet by pirates. With her skills as a duchess and desire for a daughter, will she be the companion his daughter needs—and the answer to his loneliness?

Why did you write this book?

This is the second novel in The Ladies of the Aristocracy series. These stories center on older women who are usually (but not always) widows who don’t expect to experience a second chance at love. The heroine in this one found her first love in my bestselling novel, The Grace Of A Duke, which released almost ten years ago.

Since most Victorian romances are set in England, I am always on the lookout for alternative settings. I’ve been studying the Ottoman Empire for the past couple of years and, although there is no historical precedent for an Englishwoman to end up with a sultan there, it seemed the perfect time and place for a fictional telling.

What is your favorite genre to read?

Regency romance. I’ve read hundreds of them over the years. I started out as a fan of science fiction, though, and I have a huge collection of SF novels, anthologies, and Isaac Asimov magazines.

Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?

Captain America (the newer version). He’s a man out of his own time in a world where his values aren’t as highly regarded as they once were, so he’s very conflicted.

What are you working on at the moment?

I have three WIPs in the works. Two are for my Australian publisher—one for Summer Secrets of the Soho Club and the other for an anthology featuring stories about abductions. The third is the sequel to The Lady Of A Sultan, which focuses on two Cambridge-educated men, one a sultan’s son, who are experiencing a Season in London after being out of the country for several years.

What books will we see from you in coming months?

Two of WIPs I am working on are due to release by July 4 (The Betrothal of a Baron and The Love of a Şehzade).

Once upon a Blizzard by Lisabet Sarai @LisabetSarai #RLFblog #NewRelease #SecondChanceRomance #HolidayRomanceA mistletoe kiss rekindles an old spark in Lisabet Sarai’s second chance holiday romance Once upon a Blizzard. Suzanne finds some things do indeed get better with age, but when her high school crush Gino rescues her from a blizzard, she discovers that she’s not the only love in his life

Lisabet, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about Once upon a Blizzard.

Once Upon a Blizzard by Lisabet Sarai

Genre MMF second chance holiday romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R/NC

No electricity. No water. Plenty of heat.

Suzanne and Gino have a history going back to high school, but for more than a decade the workaholic CEO has been thousands of miles from her New England home town.
A mistletoe kiss at a Christmas party rekindles the old spark and Suzanne finds some things do indeed get better with age. When Gino rescues her from a blizzard, though, she discovers that she’s not the only love in his life. Gino shares his bed and his colonial-era farm house with taciturn painter Harris Steele.
Snowed in with two lusty men who truly seem to care, she wonders why she’s so determined to return to her lonely West Coast life. Is there really a chance for a holiday happy ending?

Note: this book was previously published by Totally Entwined with the title Almost Home. It has been revised and re-edited for this edition.

Why did you write this book?

For the past two decades I’ve resided in the tropics of Southeast Asia, but before we moved here, my husband and I lived in a rural town in the Pioneer Valley of western Massachusetts. The region offers fantastic natural beauty, wonderful local food, and a culture of easy-going individualism that suited us well. However, it also requires a certain level of fortitude from its inhabitants. One spends a significant amount of time and effort dealing with the environment: battling undergrowth, pulling weeds, raking leaves, shoveling snow, cleaning gutters, installing or removing storm windows and snow tires, checking the anti-freeze in the radiator and the oil in the furnace tank, storing summer clothing while exhuming winter garb and vice versa, catching and evicting mice and squirrels, and so on. Folks in the Pioneer Valley have to be tough.

New England winters are not as cold as some parts of the U.S., like Wisconsin or Minnesota, but they’re far less predictable. I can remember sixty degree weather on Christmas Eve in some years, temperatures below zero in others. Ice storms are a real menace; one year an ice-laded bough snapped off one of our trees and thoroughly crushed the roof of my car. Then there was the morning I skidded on a snowy road on my way to work and rammed into a tree, crumpling the front end like tin foil. Scary indeed.

No, New England was not for the faint of heart. After the easy life here in Asia, I can’t imagine ever going back.

Nevertheless, I have incredibly vivid memories of New England’s unique charms and I do find myself becoming nostalgic. One of the joys of being a writer that I can channel this nostalgia into my stories.

Once Upon a Blizzard draws heavily from my own experience. The farm house occupied by Gino and Harris is based on the home of our close neighbor (although they didn’t have a hot tub in their back yard). The crispness of the winter air, the clarity of the winter sky, the distant clank of the snow plows when they finally arrive – I’ve been there.

The strangely freeing experience of being snowed in, without electricity, heat or running water is something I remember well. It’s almost like a holiday. Time is suspended. You’re forced to let go. You’ll get dug out, eventually. You’re not that worried, because of course you’re prepared with wood for the fireplace, propane for the stove, candles and flash lights. That’s just how New Englanders are.

My heroine in Once Upon a Blizzard grew up in the Pioneer Valley, but she has been working in Silicon Valley for a decade. In writing this story I was rediscovering, with her, the special magic of New England.

What is your favorite genre to read?

When I read for pleasure, I like variety. So I’m partial to many genres: science fiction, historical fiction, paranormal/urban fantasy, mysteries and of course romance and erotica.

Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?

I’m sure my answer to this question would vary from one day to the next. Some likely candidates include Sherlock Holmes and Jane Eyre.

What are you working on at the moment?

I am within one chapter of finishing The Master’s Mark, the third volume in my erotic steampunk trilogy The Toymaker’s Guild. I’ve been working on this book since the beginning of 2022. I very much hope to finish it before the New Year’s ball drops in Time Square!

What books will we see from you in coming months?

My plan is to release The Master’s Mark on January 31, 2023, which is my birthday – actually a very significant one. After that, I have plans for a third volume in my Elemental Passions series, which includes Hot Spell and Rough Weather. I also will be revisiting the Las Vegas setting of my Vegas Babes series, bringing together two characters from two different story worlds — by reader request!

In addition, I’ll be reclaiming the rights and republishing a number of my romance works in 2023. RLF readers will probably be most excited by the reboot of my paranormal erotic romance The Eyes of Bast, a rather unusual shifter story.

Which poses the biggest threat to life and sanity to a broken woman trying to heal? In Lucy Naylor Kubash’s new mystery romance, The Haunting of Laurel Cove, Jane Stuart finds out the truth. Will the discovery cost Jane her life?

Lucy, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about The Haunting of Laurel Cove.

The Haunting of Laurel Cove by Lucy Naylor Kubash

    Genre: Mystery/Romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG-13

When Jane Stuart returns to the Smoky Mountains and the house she inherited from her grandmother with the hope to heal from a brutal mugging, she finds herself obsessed with a local legend involving a witch and a mysterious cabin.

Upon reconnecting with an old boyfriend now turned handsome environmentalist, she finds herself rekindling her attraction to Brendan McGarren and is drawn into his battle to keep Laurel Cove from becoming a rich man’s playground. As she begins to uncover family secrets pertaining to the witch and the cabin, Jane questions her own sanity. Then the threats begin. Can she trust Brendan?

Will the search for truth cost Jane her life?

Why did you write this book?

On my first visit to the Great Smoky Mountains (years ago), I was enchanted by their mists and mysterious old cabins. I knew I had to set a story there, and what better kind of story than one with a haunted cabin.

What is your favorite genre to read?

I read contemporary romance, romantic suspense, western historical romance, and some crime and mystery.

Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?

It’s hard to pick just one, but the character that stands out in my mind is Nora Bonesteel, from Sharyn McCrumb’s Appalachian Ballad books. An older woman from the mountains, Nora is wise and has the gift of “sight.” I am finishing up the Tradd Street series of books by Karen White. All of her characters are my favorites. Also, Sheriff Walt Longmire from Craig Johnson’s Longmire books. Sorry, can’t pick just one!

What are you working on at the moment?

I am working on a trilogy of western contemporary romances I’m calling the North Star Legacy. It follows the McCord family as they live and love at the North Star ranch near the Grand Tetons of Wyoming.

What books will we see from you in coming months?

I am hoping to publish the North Star Legacy Trilogy in 2023.

A ballerina obsessed with perfection. A man who will do anything to grant her wish. Are the second-hand red slippers he found magical, or is he the only one who can conjure the spell and make her the world’s greatest ballerina?

Ruth, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about The Red Slippers.

The Red Slippers by Ruth A Casie

    Genre: Historical Regency Romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): Sweet

It will take magic for Cosette to believe in her abilities.
Is Avery the only one who can conjure the spell?

Cosette Binet has been in the service to Queen Marie of France, since she was a young girl. She watched private ballet performances for the queen and was fascinated by the great Marie Camargo’s footwork and high leaps. Cosette studied to become a ballerina and earned a rare opportunity to audition for the Paris Opera Ballet’s corps de ballet where she met and found her soul mate, Avery, the ballet director. Her first performance brought the audience to their feet, but when she was chosen for a principal part in another ballet, a fellow dancer had her doubting her ability and Avery’s devotion.

While searching for additional dancers for the corps de ballet, ballet master, Avery Parsons DuBois, watched Cosette dance and was captivated when she performed a grand jetè that soared further and higher than anyone he has ever seen. Mesmerized, he was drawn to the dancer and fell in love with her. He offered her a position in the ballet, but when she began to doubt her ability and his love for her, he had to do something. He gave her red slippers and told her they were Marie Camargo’s dance shoes… filled with magic.

Did the red slippers hold the magic that made her a great ballerina or was it Avery’s love?

Why did you write this book?

I was attending the Authors and Dancers Against Cancer book event. The group was developing an anthology, the funds to go to Dancers Against Cancer. Several of my friends have been impacted and I have lost family members to cancer. I knew I had to be part of the event and the anthology.

What is your favorite genre to read?

I love to read historical fiction, primarily romance. I also enjoy historical mysteries. This story is very different. My readers know to expect mysteries or murders within my love stories. The Red Slippers is very different. This is romance, a love story of a woman for her dancing profession and for the one man who believes in her abilities as a dancer and a woman.

Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?

You may laugh, but its Dirk Pitt, the hero in the Clive Cussler stories. My favorite female action heroine is Lara Croft from Tomb Raider. On the more sedate side, Lady Emily Ashton in Tasha Alexander’s Lady Emily series.

What are you working on at the moment?

I am currently working on book 4, The Lady and Her Barrister in my The Ladies of Sommer by the Sea series. I love this series about women with special skills who have graduated from the same female seminary in the town of Sommer by the Sea in northeast England. You just may see more from these ladies.
