With no place else to go, she moves in with the sheriff until a room becomes available. Zac thinks his houseguest is a foul-mouthed, ill-tempered hellion. She thinks he’s an interfering, arrogant bully. But when they work together to investigate a case of kidnapping, human trafficking, and murder…sparks begin to fly. Is this any way to start a romance?
Why did you write this book?
The idea for Little Girl Lost came from a program I saw about two girl cousins, ages 14 and 15, from Toledo, Ohio who were on their way to get milkshakes from a nearby fast food restaurant and were kidnapped. It was starting to rain when a car with a man and woman inside pulled up beside them. The man offered them a ride to the restaurant. The girls mistakenly thought he was the father of one of their friends and got in. He was actually a violent pimp with a long rap sheet.
The girls were threatened and kept locked away in a house during the day and taken to motels at night where they were coerced into having sex with strangers. After several days, they were transported across state lines and taken to truck stops where they were forced to prostitute themselves to the drivers.
Thankfully, those girls were found by the authorities and reunited with their families. They managed to escape alive and are now trying to overcome the trauma and rebuild their lives. Lots of victims aren’t that lucky.
I was so taken by their story that I researched the topic and discovered that a lot of teenage runaways fall victim to such predators. The numbers are staggering! In a 2008 news’ report, three years after the girls’ ordeal ended, it was estimated that there were then 100,000 minors forced into sexual bondage by pimps and human traffickers.
I thought a human trafficking investigation would make a good plot for a romantic thriller. I decided my heroine, Ali, would be a youth librarian from upstate NY who’s trying to track down a 13-year-old runaway. Ali is a former foster kid who’s struggled to make a life for herself.
I decided on her background after seeing another TV show about how difficult life is for foster kids when they age out of the system. How many of them turn to drugs and the street. Ali runs programs for at-risk teens and preschoolers at her library. The girl she’s after, a foster kid too, participated in her teen drop-in program. Ali is investigating what happened to the girl when she runs afoul of a county sheriff in Wyoming.
He’s big, bossy, and a conservative Republican. She’s a petite, liberal Democrat with a short temper and a big mouth. They clash, but have to put their differences aside to work together to solve a series of abductions and murders.
What is your favorite genre to read?
I love murder mysteries and romantic suspense.
Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?
V.I. Warshawski, the Chicago Private Investigator created by novelist Sara Paretsky. I’ve read about 10 or 11 of the books in the series thus far. She’s smart, strong, tenacious, and a tough as nails detective.
What are you working on at the moment?
I’m finishing up the third book in my Millie Muldoon holiday mystery series, which I hope to have out in time for Halloween. They are early chapter book and written for 3rd grade readers. I write children’s books under a different pen name.
What books will we see from you in coming months?
I’m working on the final draft of a post-apocalyptic romance, set in the Adirondack wilderness of upstate NY. It will be out either later this year or early next. I haven’t settled on a title yet, I vacillate between Wolf’s Woman or Tribes.Where to buy Little Girl Lost

Why did you write this book?
The Last Post is a sequel to “Roses in Picardy,” which was in last year’s anthology. “Roses” ended with them happy-for-now in December 1916 with the Great War still raging around Rosemarie’s little cottage near Amiens, and my readers demanded to know how it turned out.
What is your favorite genre to read?
I read historical anything: romance, mystery, non-fiction, literary fiction, children’s books…as long as it is historical, I’ll read it.
Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?
One! Dorothy Dunnett’s Crawford of Lymond, Mary Balogh’s Duke of Bewcastle, Carla Kelly’s Able Six are some of them.
What are you working on at the moment?
I’m writing another anthology novella, this one set in Bath and culminating in a Valentine’s Day Ball. The hero is a battered old sergeant with a heart of gold. I’m also scoping out the next book in my Children of Empire saga. This one may land in Egypt during a rebellion against the Ottoman Empire.
What books will we see from you in coming months?
I’ll have the first of a new set of three stories for Children of Empire by mid year. I also plan to write the middle passages between Roses in Picardy and The Last Post, and release it as a full length novel.Where to buy Follow Your Star Home

It’s Book 2 in a ghost series. I plan to write 2 more for the series. All books include a ghost. I seem to be fascinated with ghosts because they keep showing up in my books.

Why did you write this book?
The book was spark by a conversation I overheard when I was standing in line somewhere. The two women waiting in front me were sharing the stories of how they’d met their husbands. One of them said that she’d met hers when her friends “bought” him for her at a bachelor auction. Well, that was just too good a scenario not to make it into a book someday! The idea was percolating in my mind for a long time. So, when I was invited to be part of the Sweet Christmas Kisses 5, a box set of nine standalone novellas, I thought this was the perfect time to write it. What better Christmas gift than true love?
The Mistletoe Bachelor Auction is the sixth book in the Green Pines Romance series. The hero appeared in the very first book in that series, when he was just a troubled teenager. I loved him then and always wondered what kind of man he’d grow into and how he’d get his life together. It was so gratifying to discover that he’d turned into such a great guy!
What is your favorite genre to read?
Romance, of course. Love’s the greatest gift, so who wouldn’t want to read about it? Plus, the older I get, the more I crave those happy endings.
Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?
That depends on what I’m reading at any given moment. Right now, I’m loving Molly Weasley all over again. (It’s my annual Harry Potter binge-reading month!)
What are you working on at the moment?
I’m busy writing a brand-new sweet romance series to be released early next year. It’s a trilogy focused on three friends who go into business together. I’m having a lot of fun with it.

In October, I’m launching The Gift of Yesterday, which is actually book five of the Green Pines Romance series. Why did you write this book?
The hero and heroine of Within the Skin were secondary characters in Books 1 and 2 of the Skin Quartet. But my readers loved them so much that they asked if they could have their own love story. So in book 3, Toro and Pharaoh are now all grown up and going their separate ways until Toro’s younger brother is kidnapped and they have to work together to save him. Book 4 which is in press will be the younger brother’s love story.
What is your favorite genre to read?
I am an eclectic reader. I read every kind of book there is. However, my favorite books are page-turners with lots of action or mystery or secrets and hopefully, a happy or satisfying ending. That means I read a lot of romantic suspense. If anyone is curious about my reading, I regularly post book reviews on Goodreads and on my blog.
Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?
This is very hard for me to answer because if I don’t fall in love with at least one character in a book, I have a hard time reading it. I guess my current favorite is the hero of Jaima Fixen’s Incognito, Alistair who despite a missing leg and a wry sense of humor, is a true hero. I especially like that he admits fear, but then does the brave thing.
What are you working on at the moment?
I am in the midst of putting the finishing touches on a Christmas story from my newsletter subscribers. My Facebook Fan Club suggested that the main heroine and hero in the story be a carpenter and a shepherd which made writing it a bit of a challenge. But I think they will love the resulting love story.
What books will we see from you in coming months?
Book 4 in the Skin Quartet series is under contract and in the editing stage. I am hoping to see in in print early next year. Then I have a series of contemporary eco-romances I am working on set in Nova Scotia. Although that might be far away from the Brooklyn setting of the Skin Quartet series, it’s really not. I watched the Little Mermaid countless times with my daughter and always wonder what it would be like if there was a lot more sizzle and a serial killer.

I live in the cold Northern Michigan (the place of four seasons – they lie! It’s just different levels of winter) with my husband. Our children have begun their own adventures, and just as I got into the swing of empty nest, my grandson came to live with us. Now I’m doing six again… they argue everything just case you forgot. And I remember why I eat doughnuts.
When I’m not hanging out with the six year-old, I’m writing, reading, crocheting, and making self-care products. I also enjoy taking pictures. I’m not claiming to have a talent it’s just something I like to do.
