Mystery, romance, comedy, a little paranormal – you get it all in the new Sweet Thangs mystery series by Emma Ames.

Emma Ames, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your series.

Secrets, Lies, and Homemade Pies in the Sweet Thangs Mystery Series

Genre mystery

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): Even though there is no graphic language or sex, I’d still rate it R because of adult themes.

Not only does Tizzy Donovan think her cup is always half-empty, she’s pretty sure someone has spit in it. When she discovers a murder victim in the cemetery and lead after lead points to her as the culprit, her looming damnation comes in the form of handsome Texas Ranger, Ridge Cooper.

With pressure mounting, Tizzy uses her ability to communicate with the dead to help clear her name, but will their clues be enough to prove her innocence and solve the case?

Secrets, Lies, and Homemade Pies is a ‘sweet’ version of Ann Everett’s steamy romantic mystery, Laid Out and Candle Lit.

Which book is this in the series?

This is book one. It probably has as much romance as mystery because I introduce the two main characters who are central to each story. In the following books, romance takes a backseat.

How many books do you plan for the series?

Undecided. Three for sure. Maybe more. These characters are near and dear to my heart, so I hate to let them go. I already have a story idea churning in my noggin’ for a fourth book.

How many books are completed?

I am currently on the last edit of the third book, (Pretty Bows and Turned Up Toes) which should be out in a couple of months. It has the zaniest cast of characters yet, including a talking parrot!

What characters are the main stars in your series?

Tizzy Donovan Cooper is the main character, but her love interest/husband, Ridge Cooper, also takes center stage. He’s a Texas Ranger and Tizzy likes to meddle in his cases.

What is the overall theme in this series?

There’s always a mystery to solve, but quite a bit of humor and a sprinkling of paranormal. Some might consider these cozy mysteries, but they are edgier than a typical cozy because they deal with adult themes.

Please list the series titles below, in any order you prefer.

Book 1—Secrets, Lies, and Homemade Pies

Book 2—Gloom, Doom, and Missing Groom

Book 3—Pretty Bows and Turned Up Toes

What did you like best about writing this series?

First, let me say Emma Ames writes ‘sweeter, cleaner’ versions of Ann Everett’s books. Emma’s books have no graphic language or sex scenes. If readers enjoy some heat to their stories, Ann furnishes those.

I loved writing this series because it’s set in my hometown of Brownsboro, Texas, and many of the characters are based on people I know or family members. Also, a lot of the silliness is true! Of course, I embellished the town and the characters. Brownsboro doesn’t have a bakery, but since my sister and I go by the nicknames of Sugarpie and Pattiecake, I had to put us in the series, and what better way than to have us own a bakery by the name of Sweet Thangs? I took liberties. I made us younger and gave us bigger boobs!

What other books (not in this series, have you written?)

No Good Without You, A Sparrow, Texas Romance

Where can we find links for all your books?

Spear’s Search, Assassins of Gravas series Book 1, by NJ Walters is available today. It’s the first book in an exciting new science fiction romance series Assassins of Gravas. NJ, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

Spear’s Search by NJ Walters

Genre Sci-Fi Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

Spear el Gravaso–prince of Gravas and assassin–is on a mission to find his brother. His hunt had led him to an auction of Gravasian weapons that can only belong to the missing man. He needs to secure the items, get any information he can, and kill all those involved. Nothing and no one will stop him.

Sass was taken from a harsh life on the streets as a child and trained to be an assassin by the powerful Artemis. The lives of those she loves is on the line if she fails her mission–to win the auction of Gravasian tech. Only one problem–Spear is in her way.

Their battle escalates, as does the explosive heat between them. When it comes down to it, they can fight each other and one of them will die or they can join forces. But can they trust each other?

Why did you write this book?

When I finished the Marks Mercenaries series, I thought I was finished with the world I’d created, but I couldn’t stop thinking about the hero of Salvaging Abby–Vaden el Gravaso. In that book, I’d mention his family and that one of his brothers is an assassin. The world of Gravas is known for their deadly assassins. That got me to thinking about Spear and what his life might be like. One thing led to another and the result is Spear’s Search.

What is your favorite genre to read?

Romance, obviously. I read a variety of subgenres: contemporary, historical, romantic suspense, paranormal, sci-fi. Basically, whatever takes my fancy.

Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?

That is so tough. There are so many wonderful characters I could probably list a couple dozen off the top of my head. I do love the Eve Dallas character from J.D. Robb’s In Death series. Following her over 50 books has been an incredible journey.

What are you working on at the moment?

Right now, I’m working on the next book in the Assassins of Gravas series.

What books will we see from you in coming months?

I’ll have more from the Assassins of Gravas series as well as the next book in my Forgotten Brotherhood series. Burning Ash, book 3 of the Forgotten Brotherhood series, is due out September 21st.

Read Burning Bridges by Anne Krist @DeeSKnight #RLFblog #contemporaryromance #Southernromance #KUOld letters turn Sara’s life into chaos in Anne Krist’s Burning Bridges. Did you ever tell a lie for so long that even you believed it? And then get caught? Ah… Then you understand Sara in Anne Krists’ Burning Bridges.

Welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

Burning Bridges by Anne Krist

Genre Contemporary romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

Not your typical “secret baby” book, this Southern romance is filled with emotion between a mature heroine and the man she used to love.

Letters delivered decades late send shock waves through Sara Richards’s world. Nothing is the same, especially her memories of Paul, a man to whom she’d given her heart years before. Now, sharing her secrets and mending her mistakes of the past means putting her life back together while crossing burning bridges. It will be the hardest thing Sara’s ever done.

Do you write more than one genre? If so, what are they?

No. Just contemporary romance, and not too sexy. I leave that up to my sister, Dee S. Knight.

How do you come up with ideas?

Burning Bridges came to me when I heard a news report on the radio while I was on a road trip. Music is also a good inspiration. Really, how do you not come up with ideas?

What is the single most important part of writing for you?

Um…the writing. By that I mean I can have everything arranged perfectly in my head but sitting at the keyboard and hitting the keys is not easy.

When did you write your first book?

Dee wrote her first boo in 2002 but I wrote Burning Bridges in 2005. I just republished it (updated and all) this year.

Leather or lace? Could I choose flannel instead?

Black or red? Black–it’s slenderizing.

Satin sheets or smooth cotton? I tried satin once and slid out of bed, so cotton. It’s safer!

Ocean or mountains? Mountains

City life or country life? Country

Party life or evening at home? Oh my gosh, I am the furthest you can find from a party girl. Give me a good book and cocoa (and my flannel jammies) and I’m happy.

Dogs or cats? I love them both! But if I can have only one…cats.

A few years ago, Dee S. Knight began writing, making getting up in the morning fun. During the day, her characters killed people, fell in love, became drunk with power, or sober with responsibility. And they had sex, lots of sex. That’s how Dee spends her days. Her nights? Well, she’s lucky that her dream man, childhood sweetheart, and long-time hubby are all the same guy, and nights are their secret.

After a while, Dee split her personality into thirds. She writes as Anne Krist for sweeter romances, and Jenna Stewart for ménage and shifter stories. Two Tips for Writing

Tip 1: Just write! I know people say this all the time, but honestly it is the best advice. When I’m in a rut, I pull out some random writing prompts and just write based on those – a scene, a character sketch, a moment. They don’t even have to be related to my current work in progress. Often these short sketches become part of later published works. And just like any other skill, writing will get easier, faster, and better with practice.

Tip 2: Write what you like. Yes, the paranormal reverse harem shifter romances are all the rage right now. But they aren’t what I enjoy reading. Therefore, if I tried to jump on that bandwagon, I’m sure I would fail miserably and the stories would be cliché, stilted, and forced. By writing in a genre I like to read, I completely understand the expectations of that genre and what the reader expects.

Two Tips for Family

Here are two tips for Photographing your Family. I’m a hobbyist photographer and family historian. My kids call me Momarazzi because I’m always following them with my camera. In an era where images demand our attention, there are some easy ways you can get great photographs of your family even with your cell phone. For examples of these tips, check out my photography Instagram: photography

Tip 1: Get down on the kids’ (or pet’s) level. Instead of always shooting down on them from your height, bend down and get on their level. This gives your viewer the perspective of your subject and brings them into the moment. It also lets you shoot straight on and capture the true essence of your subject.

Tip 2: Play! Not every shot should be a nice posed portrait. Try to capture your subject as they are being themselves. Instead of asking your child to look at the camera, move yourself to them and ask them questions instead. (What type of bird is that? What do you have in your hand? Show me a funny face) This will get authentic emotions/reactions and capture these fleeting everyday moments.

Read the Cozy Mystery Men's Club Chaos by Karen Cino @karencino #RLFblog #CozyMysterySenior amateur sleuths are at it again in Men’s Club Chaos, book #5 in the Cookie Cutter Cozy Culinary Mystery Romance Series by Karen Cino. Karen shares two tips that help her stay organized.

Karen, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Thanks for sharing two tips with us today, but first, please tell us about Men’s Club Chaos (Cookie Cutter Cozy Mystery Series Book 5).

Men’s Club Chaos by Karen Cino

Genre Cozy Mystery Culinary Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG17

Connie and Sara are preparing to bring cookie samples for the men’s club Thanksgiving dinner. An explosion at the water towers send the women running to the scene.

After visit Kent and taking his order, Connie and Sara go down to the water tower to see if they can find out what caused the explosion.

A few hours later while Connie and Brett are at dinner they receive a call that Ken is dead after eating Connie’s cookies. It is up to Sara to track down the killer to clear Connie of the murder.

Who said that two women sleuths can’t get into massive trouble.

Two Tips for Writing

The most important tip is to write everyday. This helps build our momentum and gives you a rush of wanting to write everyday.

Writing with you know is often harder than you think. Make certain to research even on a subject or occupation you know. What you did twenty years ago is totally different today.

Two Tips for Editing

I find reading my manuscript outlaid helps you find a variety of errors, especially in grammar and repeat words and phrases. After I finish a book, I put it on the side for a week or two before going back.

It’s important to have a character sketch and timeline along side you to find mistakes. For instance the character starts off with dark brown eyes and halfway through the book it changes to hazel. I keep a character sketch for physical description and general information on each character.

Two Tips for Organizing

When writing a series, keep all your characters together. I have a notebook for my series. I like flipping through pages to see who previous characters are if I’m going to use them again in another book. (Besides the main characters.)

I also keep a tote back with the current book I’m working on along with my notebooks and timelines.

Two Tips for Timesavers

Have all your notes on your work in progress in one place. Like a previously said, I keep my notes in a binder and notebook. Try to keep your work schedule at the same time everyday. I generally write from eleven in the morning until three or four. I set a word goal and go for it.

Two Tips for Family

Talk to your family members about boundaries. I find that a lot of times family members take our writing as a joke because we’re not getting paid a “big” or shall I say “small” weekly salary. Let them understand this is your passion.

If you’re going to get up early or stay up late to write, let your family know that during this time you do not want to be bothered. No you are not making them coffee or entertaining them. Ask them to respect your time, especially if you are writing during your quiet time of the morning or night. (I know. Easier said than done.)

Two Tips for Household Chores

The house will be standing long after we’re all gone. But seriously, I clean my house every Saturday and Sunday morning. The bathroom I do everyday. This way it is always clean and I never go to bed with dishes in the sink. If you have kids, again you have to set boundaries. You don’t expect them to scrub your bathroom floors, but they should be responsible for cleaning up after themselves. And if they are using your car, then you have a great bargaining tool. lol I used that for years. But now that it’s just my husband and I, we share the chores, keep the house neat except for all my papers all over the living room.

Two Tips for Cooking

I find cooking for two days works out great for me. A lot of people don’t like leftovers, but if it’s cooking a meal and cleaning pots and pans every night, I learned to eat leftovers and so has my husband. Again, clean up as you go along and you won’t waste any undo additional time. Or when all else fails: Order out!!!

Do you write more than one genre? If so, what are they?

I now just write historical romance. I have a few ideas for a contemporary bouncing about my head.

How do you come up with ideas?

Each time, it is different. It might be a picture, a line I read, or a character enters my head. Highland Scandal came out about instantly. I just had to sit down and write.

What is the single most important part of writing for you?

I love revising a novel that when I can make it better and get deeper than when I write my first draft.

When did you write your first book?

I was about five. It was three pages long and printed in pink crayon. As an adult my first was a chick-lit that is buried in the deep recesses of my drive and that was about 2004.

Leather or lace? Leather

Black or red? Black
