It’s late, he’s bored. What does he do?
If he’s tired but not tired enough to sleep, he will sit in bed and read a book. He loves horror, mystery, science fiction, and fantasy. He might even write a poem or two. He doesn’t usually share his work with anyone but he enjoys writing. If he’s got a lot of restless energy, he’ll either listen to one of his favorite playlists while he hits the treadmill or his weight bench.
What kind of food would he impulse buy if hungry?
His snack choice is meatball subs or hamburgers and fries. He’s not a fantastic cook but luckily he lives near plenty of great restaurants and sandwich shops.
Describe the kind of clothes he prefers to wear.
Sean doesn’t like to dress up. He prefers t shirts, jeans, and running shoes.
Does he know how to fix things?
He can fix basic stuff around the house, for anything more complicated, duct tape will be involved.
He tried to do something and it went badly. Tell us about it.
A couple years ago, two guys broke into his house and started interrogating him about a case. When his girlfriend (now ex-girlfriend) came to the door, he tried to get her to leave quietly and quickly so he could keep her safe. So many things went wrong. The memory will always haunt him.
How does he act around children he doesn’t know?
He doesn’t know a whole lot about kids, hasn’t been around them much, but he treats them with decency and never ever acts condescendingly towards kids. He figures they deserve the same basic rights as everyone else so he listens when they speak rather than dismissing them or trying to shut them up.
What is he like first thing in the morning?
He’s not really a morning person. Extra strong coffee helps.
How does he act around people who don’t know what he is?
He doesn’t share much about himself, definitely not anything about being a shapeshifter. Lots of regular humans know about the existence of some of the stranger creatures in life, but many don’t, so he’s always careful about what he says.
Will he let a worker handle things or do it himself?
When Sean’s private investigation business started gaining a fair amount of clients, he hired an assistant. Training Darnell forced Sean to learn to let go of the need to have control over every detail.
Earrings/piercings/tattoos or unadorned skin?
He doesn’t have any tattoos. He hates needles. He does have a few scars but Nikki thinks he’s hot just the way he is.
Personal vehicle or public transport?
He has to travel for different investigations so he drives a truck that has plenty of space for surveillance equipment and luggage.
Recycle or toss?
He always recycles. He loves spending time outside and doesn’t want to trash the environment.

A few years ago, I read my first romance novel and I was hooked, so much so that I decided to give the idea of writing a story a chance. Love, courage, hope, and second chances are a few of my favorite themes. My stories include a fair amount of sarcasm, suspense, steam, and violence. When I’m not writing, I enjoy spending time outside and finding ways to avoid cooking. I live in beautiful Virginia with my husband, two daughters, and a sweet, hairy monster of a dog.

Elian is never bored. He is constantly on the move, constantly investigating. He’s a famous photojournalist, covering events from the Iranian revolution to the Lebanese civil war.
What kind of food would he impulse buy if hungry?
I don’t know about food, but he does usually have a couple of airline-sized liquor bottles in his pocket.
Describe the kind of clothes he prefers to wear.
Ex-officio—LL Bean. Travel clothes for the adventurous. Like safari shirts with flaps and hiking boots.
Does he know how to fix things?
Not really. He’s a man of action; not a homebody.
He tried to do something and it went badly. Tell us about it.
The first time he and Sydney try to make love, it does not go well. Here’s Sydney telling her daughter about it years later:
“He was magnificent. A stallion.” Sydney’s lips curled upwards.
Olivia tut-tutted. “Yeah, right. I bet it was awkward as hell—just like most first times.”
Sydney made a face. “I did my best not to laugh. First he couldn’t figure out how to unhook my bra. Then he tripped over his pants and fell face first on the bed. Well, to be more specific, on the cat.”
How does he act around children he doesn’t know?
Funny question, since he has a child he doesn’t know is his. He loves her anyway.
What is he like first thing in the morning?
Sexy.
Can he use chopsticks?
Absolutely. He has traveled all over the world and eaten all kinds of cuisine.
Does he drink coffee? If so, how does he take it? If not, what does he drink instead?
He likes Arab (Turkish) coffee, masbout (medium sweet).
What apps would he have on his phone?
None. For all but the last chapter, we meet him before the App Era.
Android or iPhone?
Neither. He might have a Motorola cell phone.
Beard or clean-shaven?
Clean shaven. He likes to show off his pointed chin. They go with his elfin ears and hair that could belong to a leprechaun. Oh, and eyes the color of the Caribbean Sea at high noon.
Earrings/piercings/tattoos or unadorned skin?
He had a diamond stud in his ear, which led Sydney to believe he was a privileged Ivy League bore. He gave it up in exchange for something Sydney cherished.
Personal vehicle or public transport?
He is known for leaping onto trucks and buses in order to get a story. Never owned a car.

Absolutely! He’s a skilled carpenter and furniture maker.

He tried to hang onto an ex-girlfriend who went from artistic free spirit to consumeristic social climber. That didn’t last.
How does he act around children he doesn’t know?
Matteo’s great with his nieces, his friends’ children, and with the heroines. He teaches her two tweens the finer points of Skee-ball and shows them all his favorite secret places in Ocean View.
What is he like first thing in the morning?
Sleepy-soft, sexy, adorable. He’s the kind of guy who brings you a fresh-brewed espresso in bed.

Paul is an avid reader, so he always has something nearby to read. He like thrillers. Since he’s spent most of his adult life as a farmer, he keeps up with new techniques with farming magazines. He also likes to fish or just grab an apple and find a quiet place to relax.
What kind of food would he impulse buy if hungry?
Bing candy bars—a concoction of a soft cherry center surrounded by chocolate. They’re only available in stores in the Midwest.
Describe the kind of clothes he prefers to wear.
Casual all the way. He’s used to jeans. He doesn’t wear tee shirts often, though. Casual, collared shirts are what he likes. When he dresses up, like for church or a special occasion, suits will do. But he gets out of them as soon as possible. He does splurge for some clothing. He has a fabulous sheepskin coat for those cold Iowa winters.
Does he know how to fix things?
He can fix most anything. Living far out of town, he and his brother and nephew rely on their skills to fix whatever breaks. Give Paul and engine—any kind of engine—and he’ll make it sing.
He tried to do something and it went badly. Tell us about it.
In Vietnam, he tried to check a native family’s papers and return to his ship, but he nearly ended up in a bloodbath. It made his question why he and his fellow sailors were in Vietnam to begin with. The episode scared him. He relayed this in a letter to his love, Sara.
How does he act around children he doesn’t know?
Paul likes children but he doesn’t seek them out. When he’s around them he will generally stand back and let others take charge.
What is he like first thing in the morning?
He’s used to getting up before daylight and getting right into hard labor, so he pretty much is fine with it. I wouldn’t say he jumps out of bed and starts whistling, but he knows how to get half a day’s work done by the time others are just rising.
Can he use chopsticks?
If he wanted to, but why??
Does he drink coffee? If so, how does he take it? If not, what does he drink instead?
Oh yes. Strong and black.

Private transportation. In Iowa he had a truck and a Jeep. He took the truck with him to South Carolina. He’s always lived in places where public transportation wasn’t feasible.

He recycles, though he’s not rabid about it.

Fruit. Chocolate or junk food is a rarity where’s he’s stationed, so he’s become accustomed to snacking on apples.
Describe the kind of clothes he prefers to wear.
Slacks and sweaters.
Does he know how to fix things?
Rodger earned a degree in Engineering before he joined the feds, so he’s very capable with his hands. Which is great for his lady love, Leonora. *wink wink*

How does he act around children he doesn’t know?
He’s comfortable around them. He has three younger siblings, so he grew up in a large family.

Wide awake, alert. He’s trained his body to wake at a certain time.

No way. He doesn’t have an opportunity to eat Oriental food anyway.
Does he drink coffee? If so, how does he take it? If not, what does he drink instead?
Nope. No coffee. He misses that luxury.
Android or iPhone? What apps would he have on his phone?
“Apps? Robots? What is Kayelle talking about?”
“Shh.” Yeah, sorry. Rodger was responding to that one. I’m shushing him.

Clean-shaven, most of the time.

Unadorned skin. He’s too much of a square to take a walk on the wide side. Thank God that doesn’t apply to the bedroom, though, or Leonora wouldn’t be too happy.

Four-by-four jeep. Without it, he never would’ve found Leonora wandering around the flats.

Recycle. Even though saving the environment wasn’t a widely spread notion back in the ’60s, he doesn’t believe in wasting things.

An invitation to meet the dead soldier’s unknown cousin was fraught with risk, but he’s almost broke and desperate and agrees. The meeting goes well until a ghastly proposition plunges him into murder and blackmail – but there’s no turning back. Stealing a dead soldier’s ID is a hanging offence.
How does he act around children he doesn’t know?
He has a real soft spot for children.
What is he like first thing in the morning?
Miserable with the life he’s brought upon himself, until he meets Lacey who is hiding more secrets than he is.
How does he handle things when in a “proper” social situation?
Very well, although he constantly reminds himself that he is now Andrew and can never let his guard down.
