Welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Let’s play Is It True with today’s guest, Caro Carson, author of The Slow Burn, a new contemporary romance. This is a game with yes and no questions. Writers can elaborate on answers as much as they choose.

Out of the friend zone…and into the fire!

When firefighter Caden Sterling unexpectedly delivers Tana McKenna’s baby by the side of the road, the unlikely threesome forms a special bond. When Caden offers friendship and a helping hand, single mom Tana can’t say no. Their flirty friendship slowly becomes something more, until Tana’s ex and the truth about her baby catch up with her. Now Tana must try to regain Caden’s trust—because he is the only man who can make this family complete.

Is it true:

this is your first book?

No. This is my 17th published contemporary romance with Harlequin. I also have two delicious time travel novels for those who love pirates.

this book is part of a series?

Yes! This is the second book in my new “Masterson, Texas” series. All the books are set in the same college town, but each book tells the complete story of one couple, so you don’t have to read them all or even read them in order.

you lost sleep while writing this book?

Yes, I always, always lose sleep when writing a book. It takes a toll. I really need to develop better work habits.

you did research for this book?

Yes! I rode along with the city’s fire department, a full twelve hours going out on calls with them, eating meals in the firehouse, everything. I was once a first responder myself, an officer in the US Army’s military police corps, so I’d worked with firefighters, of course, but never this closely. They are true public servants, arriving on every scene with the goal of helping however they can.

some characters in this book are not human? (pets for example)

No. All human beings in this book. Some are nicer than others! Our heroine has to handle a lot of different responses to her accidental pregnancy, from her boyfriend (who immediately decides he is her ex and leaves the country) to her parents to her BFF…to the handsome fireman who comes to her rescue.

this book has more than one genre?

No. It’s a contemporary romance with a heartwarming happily-ever-after.

you speak more than one language?

No. Once upon a time, I knew a decent bit of German because I took it in high school and college, but I think a second language is one of those things which falls under “if you don’t use it, you lose it.” But I still love schnitzel und bier!

you grew up where you live now?

Yes. Sort of. I’m a native Floridian from the Miami area. Then I went to West Point, the United States Military Academy, in New York, then was sent by the army to Alabama, Georgia, Texas, and the country of Panama. After my service, my civilian job took me from Baltimore to Pittsburgh to…Orlando! Yay! I made it back to my home state, just about a four-hour drive north of Miami. Yes, I do have annual passes to Disney World. It’s my childhood dream come true.

you love to read?

Yes. How could anyone write if they didn’t read? But I don’t read nearly as much as I used to, because I know I should be writing instead.

you are never late?

No. I am always late. If West Point and the US Army couldn’t make me prompt, nothing can, I’m afraid. But I keep trying. I’m always so frustrated when I don’t get somewhere on time, because I do not want to be late.

you love pizza?

Yes, I love pizza. All kinds. All toppings except anchovies—too salty for me. But I will eat the oh-so-controversial Hawaiian pizza. Pineapple and ham taste so surprisingly good on pizza. My most memorable pizza was eaten in a California Kitchen restaurant, their BLT pizza. The bacon and tomato part was hot, but the shredded lettuce and mayo on top was cold, and the whole danged thing was delicious. It might not actually have been a pizza, though.

you love sushi?

Yes. I’m a sushi lover, but please don’t squeeze the orange mayonnaise stuff all over it. That sauce is too similar to McDonald’s special sauce, which is fine on a Big Mac, but I don’t want it on my tuna and salmon!

you have a pet?

Yes, two kinds. First, I have the requisite adorable little rescue dog, who loves me and keeps me company and does all the wonderful things dogs do for undeserving humans. Second, I have fish. I love my aquarium and I get attached to my goldfish, because they can live as long as dogs. I’ve had my current goldfish for seven years. He started as a little two-inch dude at a pet store, and he’s now bigger than my fist. Please do not point out to him my answer to the sushi question, above.
