A Week at Most in the Nature’s Crossing Series

A Week at Most is the first book in Claudia Shelton’s new small-town contemporary mainstream romance series, where an unemployed big-city newscaster is housesitting for friends. The three-years divorced woman is looking for trust. A man she’s introduced to has way too many secrets. And the one thing neither of them are looking for is love.

    Genre: Contemporary Mainstream Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG-13

Welcome to Nature’s Crossing, a small Missouri town needing more than a face lift to survive. Got a moment? We’d be happy to show you around…

Big-city newscaster Ashley Lanovan never dreamed she’d be divorced and unemployed at barely thirty-eight years old. Needing time to plan her future, she agrees to housesit for friends in Nature’s Crossing. After setting new life goals, and adjusting to small-town culture shock, she realizes that her priorities have been misplaced for the past ten years. Now her efforts to revive the struggling town, have gone a long way to restoring her confidence in people. But when it comes to Mark Garmund, the man she can’t shake from her thoughts—that requires trust on a whole different level.

Recently, Nature’s Crossing seems like more than just a place special agent Mark Garmund wants to visit friends every so often. After years working for the CIA, he’s ready for a change, and the Park Services has offered him a job. Now, he’s got his eye on ten acres with towering pines, a park-like setting and one sprawling house he could call home. Meeting newcomer Ashley Lanovan has triggered emotions he’d rather not face, and a few he would sure like to pursue. But he has more secrets than the world will ever know, and evidently, more enemies than he’d ever imagined.

Which book is this in the series?

    Book 1

How many books do you plan for the series?

    5 (at least)

    How many books are completed?

    2

What characters are the main stars in your series?

Each book has its own happily-ever-after stars, such as Ashley and Mark in A Week at Most. They will become an integral part of the series, along with their friends Janie and Patrick, but by the end of this book they’ve found their HEA so they’re story is over for the most part. As for the secondary characters, the star is Peabody!

What is the overall theme in this series?

Second chances, change and moving forward. Not only for the people, but for the community itself. Progress may mean change, but that doesn’t mean losing what’s truly important about a person, place or thing.

Please list the series titles below, in any order you prefer.

    Nature’ Crossing series:
A Week at Most (Book 1)
Time to Grow (Book 2) (Coming Spring 2021)
    Book 3 (TBD)
    Book 4 (TBD)
    Book 5 (TBD)

What did you like best about writing this series?

I love the town’s setting! I love the on-going characters. And am looking forward to seeing the town of Nature’s Crossing revitalize itself. Plus, I already know a number of characters that will have their own HEA story.

What other books (not in this series, have you written?)

My other books have been romantic suspense:

    Risk of a Lifetime

Slater’s Revenge (Shades of Leverage, Book 1)

Dangerous Lies (Shades of Leverage, Book 2)

Award winning author Claudia Shelton has already proven herself a contender in romantic suspense books that cross over into the mystery-suspense-thriller genre. Whether sexy protector agents or small-town family settings, her fast-paced stories keep the reader guessing all the way to the end.
Now, with the release of the first book in her new Nature’s Crossing series, she’s entering the contemporary mainstream romance genre (a crossover between contemporary romance and women’s fiction). The ongoing small-town saga is nestled in south-central Missouri, somewhere between Lake of the Ozarks, Table Rock Lake and Mark Twain National Forest.
Claudia is a two-time finalist in the Daphne du Maurier (unpublished) Award for Excellence in mystery and suspense. Her debut book release, Risk of a Lifetime, was voted one of Ebooks Galore’s top reads for 2014.
On a personal note, Claudia considers herself a music lover and water person, plus she enjoys anything to do with nature. In fact, the Nature’s Crossing series allows her to bring all of those things closer. Her main priority, though, is spending time with family, friends and her two sweet, conniving rescue dogs, Gidget and Daisy.

Cupcakes and Crumbs by Melissa McClone @melissamcclone #RLFblog #NewRelease #WomensFictionFive friends reunite after fifteen years apart in Melissa McClone’s new romantic women’s fiction release, Cupcakes and Crumbs. Will their friendship be enough to save the town’s beloved cupcake shop?

Melissa, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about Cupcakes and Crumbs.

Cupcakes and Crumbs by Melissa McClone

    Genre Romantic Women’s Fiction

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): G

After life takes five women on different paths, a death brings them home. But friendship might not be enough to keep them together.

When Bria Landon and her estranged father each inherit fifty percent of a small-town cupcake shop, her dad hires her worst enemy, and first love, to turn the place into a soulless franchise…or sell it.

To save her aunt’s legacy, Bria needs the help of people who love the bakery as much as she does—her old friends who worked there fifteen years ago. Except each woman is dealing with her own problem:

Juliet, who’s trying to prove she’s more than a trophy wife; Missy, a widow who fears losing the job she loves; Nell, who’s meddling mother won’t stop playing matchmaker; and Selena, a life coach who excels at fixing everyone else’s lives…but hasn’t a clue what’s missing in her own.

Each woman wants to believe their friendship can overcome anything. But as the Berry Lake Cupcake Posse reunite to save their beloved cupcake shop, they soon discover the undertaking will bring more trouble than they expected.

Why did you write this book?

A designer had put the cover for sale (it’s called a pre-made cover), and I fell in love with it. The only problem was I didn’t have a story for it. So my imagination got cranking, and I came up with an idea. Only it was for a series about five friends in a small town in Washington. So I messaged the cover and asked if she could make four more. She said yes, so I bought it. Then I filled in the idea into something more, focusing on friendship, family, and of course, romance!

What is your favorite genre to read?

I read across genres, but lately I’ve been reading romance and all it’s sub-genre for the HEAs, which I just need right now. I write sweet, but I read both sweet and steamy stories.

Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?

I really enjoyed Nick Andros from Stephen King’s The Stand. Even after all these years, his character has stuck with me.

What are you working on at the moment?

I’m finishing up two short reads in my Billionaires of Silicon Forest Series. I also have another book started which will be a 50K contemporary romance. It isn’t titled yet, but it also takes place in a small town.

What books will we see from you in coming months?

Tiaras & Teacups will be out in February. That’s the second book in my Berry Lake Cupcake Posse series. Kittens & Kisses will follow that in May or June.

Josie Drummond breathes life onto canvas as she paints compelling portraits and scenes of people who lived and died long ago. The images are inspired by the brief flashes she witnesses during intensely painful migraine episodes. She thinks it’s just her creativity at work until the man in her paintings walks into her life one Christmas Eve. And if what she sees in her imagination is true then… Antonio is no ordinary man.

    He’s a vampire.

Antonio is shocked to discover his undead life portrayed on canvases hanging along Jackson Square. Even more mysterious is the woman who paints them. How can a woman from the 21st century know of his dark past in a life he lived hundreds of years ago?

    ‘Tis the Season…for vampires!

When the days grow shorter and dusk comes earlier, we may spend our time decorating with holly and mistletoe, drinking cider, and playing in the snow. But the creatures who stalk the night are in their element—and while visions of sugarplums dance in our heads, they’re lurking in the shadows, knowing there’s nothing so delicious as a vampire’s kiss.

So settle in for a long winter’s night full of winter holiday vampire tales from these New York Times, USA Today, and international bestselling authors. Including paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and dark fantasy, this collection give a whole new meaning to the term heartwarming.

Because sometimes, the holidays truly bite.

    QUICK

    What’s your favorite book?…

I have way too many favorites when it comes to books, but the first that comes to mind is Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. It’s a gothic romance classic that I always enjoy re-reading.

    What’s a genre you want to write?…

While I love writing romances because of the guaranteed happily-ever-after, I would enjoy writing urban fantasy, too.

Best writing advice you ever heard?…

Read. Pick the type of book you want to write and read everything you can. If you want to write mystery, read 20 mystery books. Is romance your thing? Then read as much of the romance genre as you can. You can pick up a lot by simply reading in that genre. It’s a great place to start.

What’s the title and genre of your first book, and where can we find it?

The Witch and the Wolf is a paranormal romance published by The Wild Rose Press and can be found at Amazon and Barnes & Noble. http://www.triciaschneider.com/books/paranormal-romance/the-witch-and-the-wolf/

    Easy

Coffee or tea? Hot tea. Lavender and honey tea is my favorite, but mostly any green tea.

Sit down dinner or drive through? Drive thru. Sit down dinners are saved for special occasions.

Fold laundry immediately or let it sit? Fold it. I can’t stand wrinkles.

Unload dishwasher right away or use dishes from it? Sadly, my dishwasher broke three years ago. I have to hand wash dishes which is not fun with four kids who feel the need to get a new cup every time they need a drink. But, when it was working, I would unload it immediately.

Driving for pleasure or avoid driving anywhere? Driving for pleasure. I love to visit new places. Sometimes I go for a ride with no destination in mind. Just going where the road takes me.

    Talk or text? Talk.

Know the Heroine from A Witch's Holiday Wedding by Tena Stetler @tenastetler #RLFblog #Paranormal RomanceTorn in too many directions, with a covert mission throws a wrench in Tena Stetler’s paranormal romance/mystery A Witch’s Holiday Wedding. Tena, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! We’re excited to find out more about your heroine, but first, tell us about A Witch’s Holiday Wedding.

Elemental witch, Pepper McKay and former Navy SEAL, Lathen Quartz have built Lobster Cove Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Center on enchanted McKay land. During a romantic interlude on Halloween night, Pepper happily agrees to become Lathen’s wife. What better day than Winter Solstice for their wedding in a town that loves celebrations and Christmas. However, planning a wedding and operating their wildlife center takes a toll on both Pepper and Lathen.

When the couple takes a much-needed break for Thanksgiving with family in Colorado, a Maine snowstorm fills the center with injured wildlife. Know the Heroine from A Witch's Holiday Wedding by Tena Stetler @tenastetler #RLFblog #Paranormal RomanceHere are some fun questions to help us know your heroine.

Do You know how to fix things?

Yes. I had to make do with a shoe string budget when she worked for Gwen in the Salem Sanctuary for ten years. Now the knowledge comes in hand for my own Rescue and Rehab in Lobster Cove, Maine.

What are you like first thing in the morning?

Slow and a bit of a bear first thing in the morning. I’m a night owl by nature.

How do you act around people who don’t know what you are?

Friendly but reserved. No one but my close friends and family know I’m a witch. I want to keep it that way.

Do you let a worker handle things or do it yourself?

I’ve hired responsible workers and let them handle the tasks assigned. They know to come to me with any questions.

    Recycle or toss?

    Recyle

Who is the significant other in your life?

    Lathen Quartz

Do you get by, live comfortably, live extravagantly?

I live to get by comfortably. There’s too much unknown in the world of wildlife rescue to live extravagantly. The creatures in your care many need the funds more than you.

What is your viewpoint on wealth?

I live on a comfortable budget. I always believe in putting funds away for unexpected expenses.

Do you see morality as black-and-white, or with shades of gray?

Oh definitely black-and-white. There’s wrong and right, bad and good. I’m aware everyone makes mistakes, I’ve certainly made my share. But when individuals are purposely doing something cruel and someone or a poor creature ends up paying the price. That is unacceptable under any circumstances.

If you could make any one thing happen, what would it be?

That every mistreated animal or injured creature find safety wildlife sanctuary or be treated and released into their natural habitat. As far as people are concerned, I wish they’d realize that they are forever responsible for that which they have tamed.

What is your biggest personal flaw?

I tend to like animals more than I do people except the friends and family I surround myself with. I don’t trust easily. That trust has to be earned and a lot of people see that as unfair. It used to bother me what others thought, but now I figure it’s their loss.

Thanks for helping us get to know your heroine!

Do It Write: Where Caro Carson writes @TheCaroCarson #RLFblog #Contemporary Romance #HolidayRomance #amwritingA chance encounter at the lighting of a small town’s Yule log will change two lives in USA Today bestselling author Caro Carson’s new contemporary romance, For This Christmas Only. Masterson University’s most famous alumnus has survived a plane crash, but to start living again, he needs a Christmas miracle…perhaps in the form of a determined heroine who won’t take a gruff “go away” for an answer.

Caro, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Before we talk about your office, please tell us about your latest book.

For This Christmas Only by Caro Carson

    Genre Contemporary Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG

His book inspired her to return to school, but he no longer believes in his own advice.

After nearly dying in a plane crash, financial guru Eli Taylor wants to find meaning in his life. A chance encounter at a small town’s Yule log lighting leads to an evening spent as the fake boyfriend of his superfan Mallory Ames. When she finds herself homeless for the holidays, he invites her to stay with him—if she’ll return the favor and be his fake girlfriend, so he can show his siblings what a loving partnership should look like. Their arrangement will end when the new year begins…or will it?

How long have you been writing?

Is it too trite to say I’ve been writing as long as I could hold a pencil? It’s true, though. I was so frustrated in first grade when I could only fit one or two sentences on those large-ruled sheets of notebook paper.

What was your first published book?

Doctor, Soldier, Daddy, a contemporary romance published in 2013. The “marriage of convenience” trope met the “falling for the nanny” trope, and the result won the Booksellers Best Award for Best First Book, and I will always be super proud of that, can you tell?

Tell us about your writing space or home office.

Once upon a time, I stopped at a furniture consignment store, and I saw a black-lacquer Victorian-era fantasy. Because it was “used,” it was actually less expensive than a desk from Target! I bought it on the spot. Now I try to write up to the level which I think somebody sitting at that desk should be writing.

    Anything special about your space?

My desk is at a window that lets me look out on the street. I’m the creepy neighbor who is always watching all the cars and delivery vans stop. But my favorite is the school busses that stop on the corner, dropping off elementary school kids who sprint down the sidewalk and teenagers who trod sullenly home. I love my neighborhood.

What do you love most about that area?

I love having things to touch on my desk. I have a wood bowl that is so smooth to touch, a drawer full of squeeze balls, and even a crystal ball that sits on a little iron cat. There’s nowhere else in my house those things would belong.

What office equipment do you use most, other than your computer?

I have an old-fashioned spiral notebook and a pen beside me. Sudden lines of dialogue will pop into my head that have nothing to do with the scene I’m currently typing, and I’ve learned if I don’t write them down immediately, I won’t remember them when it gets to the right scene to use them. I’ve tried opening a blank document and typing the ideas there, but it doesn’t work the same for me. I think writing by hand and being able to scribble or draw arrows between things on a page is essential to my process.

Despite a no-nonsense background as a West Point graduate and U.S. Army officer, Caro Carson has always treasured the happily-ever-after of a good romance novel. After her military service, she worked in the healthcare industry with a Fortune 100 company, talking science with doctors who were rarely handsome bachelor Texans like the doctors in her books. Now a USA Today bestselling author and RITA™ award winner, Caro is delighted to be living her own happily-ever-after with her husband (who actually is a handsome Texan) and their two children. They live in the great state of Florida, a location which has saved the coaster-loving theme park fanatics a fortune on plane tickets.
