Read the new paranormal romance Burning Ash by NJ Walters @njwaltersauthor #RLFblog #NewRelease #PNRBurning Ash, the third book in the Forgotten Brotherhood, an exciting new paranormal series from NJ Walters.

NJ, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

    Burning Ash by NJ Walters

    Genre PNR

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

No one is more surprised than Asher, one of the oldest vampires on Earth, that he’s attracted to vamp hunter Jo Radcliffe. She’s smart, a talented slayer, and she’s gorgeous. Something about her pulls at him, like no one ever has before. For a man, whose name strikes fear in everyone––this is something new and intriguing. And quite possibly deadly, if she discovers his secret.

Jo has two things in common with the handsome Asher––they are both slayers and someone is messing with them in a very-much-trying-to-kill-them way. She’s not so happy about joining forces with a dude she doesn’t know. But he’s sexy as hell and really good at his job as one of the Forgotten Brotherhood, whose business it is to execute misbehaving paranormals.

She knows she’s bait in a larger plot to harm Asher and the Brotherhood. And there is nothing he won’t do, no line he won’t cross, to keep her safe––which may be the weakness that destroys them both.

Why did you write this book?

From the moment I met Asher in Fury Unleashed, book one of the series, I knew he had to have his own book. He’s funny and irreverent and loves reality television, but that’s how he copes with who and what he is and what he must do. He’s the deadliest vampire in the world. His abilities allow him to bring dangerous vampires to justice. Because really, who can you call when a powerful paranormal goes rogue? The Forgotten Brotherhood, of course.

What is your favorite genre to read?

Romance is my favorite genre to read. Depending on my mood, I’ll read contemporary, paranormal, romantic suspense, historical, or sci-fi/fantasy. There are so many great books to choose from.

Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?

This is always a tough choice. I have so many favorites. One of them is Rhage from J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series. His story has extended into several books. He’s a dangerous vampire who sometime becomes a deadly beast, but he has a huge heart, and when he loves, it’s forever.

What are you working on at the moment?

I’m working on the next book in the Forgotten Brotherhood series as well as the next book in my Assassins of Gravas science fiction romance series. Lots of fun.

What books will we see from you in coming months?

There will be another Forgotten Brotherhood book. No official title yet, but it is written. And there will be at least three more Assassins of Gravas books. No release date, but Ivar’s Escape, book two, should be coming soon.

But she’s come to the right place. He’s the monster hunter.

    Stressing Owen Strong

Every hero has a story. He has a background, a history, and a past. This interview allows us to meet a hero and get to know him better, by focusing on how he handles being relaxed, as well as how he handles stress.

Please tell me about your hero.

    Age: 33

    Gender: male

    Birthplace: Chicago

    Profession: Mechanic

What does your hero look like?

Huge. He’s always been large, at 6’2″ with broad shoulders and chest. He works out daily, because his past careers as a bounty hunter and MMA fighter made staying in shape essential.

Who is the significant other in his life?

Keira Hoa Thi. He found her on a storm buffeted highway. She’s in trouble and he vows to protect her.

    The Hero’s Relaxed Side

This hero is at a party. Considering his story, describe the party.

He’s at a house warming party after he and his friends have helped paint and move his buddy and wife into their new home. There will be beer, pizza and a lot of joking around.

How does the hero feel about being this particular party, and what body language is he displaying that gives it away?

There will be moments where he relaxes against a wall and soaks in the camaraderie and comfort of knowing he has a chosen family.

Is he more likely to mingle or remain aloof?

He will do a little of both. But his nature is to watch and guard those that are important to him so he will always be a touch alloof and on guard.

If he drinks, what is his drink of choice at this party?

He’ll have a beer or maybe a shot of whiskey, but he never allows himself too much. He really likes water and juice.

How much drink is his usual?

    One or two.

The hero figures out where the hiding places are and then goes there. Is it to hide, to avoid someone, or to go drag a friend back to the party?

He choses his friends wisely. Most of them are hard-working and ex-military. They watch out for each other. If someone is having a problem, he’s in their space helping them out or setting them straight.

Is he likely to latch onto a friend and stay with him/her and ignore others, or is he the friend that others latch onto?

He has his circle of friends and they all watch out for each other. They mingle equally.

If someone picked a fight at this party, how is the hero going to handle it?

He will break it up and then set both parties down and get it straightened out.

Is the hero the one most likely to get tossed out of the party, or the one who does the tossing?

    Definitely do the tossing.

Will he know when to leave, or stay late and make a nuisance of himself?

    Always knows when to leave.

    The Hero’s Stressed Out Side

How does the hero handle it if the cops or some other authority figure pulls him aside when he was blameless in a situation?

Immediately starts strategizing his best response and plays to whatever will settle the situation quickly. He is a chameleon playing whatever part he needs to.

How does the hero react to hearing a scream?

Immediately moves to find the source and the reason. He is quick and quiet.

If he sees someone being assaulted, what is the FIRST thing that crosses his mind?

Assess the situation and the location. Could there be more assailants on the way? What are his best defensive strategies for the location?

If he sees someone being assaulted, what is the FIRST thing he does?

Separates the combatants, then finds out who started it and why.

This hero attempts to rescue someone and realizes that he is in over his head. The odds are against him and there is no way out. He is going to get his butt handed to him. What does he do?

Never give up. Think with your head, use your brawn to your advantage.

The hero runs into the one person from his past he wanted to avoid. He can’t get out of the situation and must interact in some way. What does he do?

Always aware of what is going on around him. He would see the person first and if he doesn’t want to be seen, he will disappear.

Someone younger than the hero is in charge of the situation, and they are handling it badly, perhaps bungling things. How does the hero deal with it?

He will always attempt to instruct and educate, but if there is danger involved he will take over.

The hero is in physical pain but must bear up under it and keep going. What does he tell himself in order to get through the situation?

He trains in several martial arts and was a street fighter. Pain is part of life. He blanks it out.

What mentor’s words come to mind in a bad situation?

He’s relied on himself for a very long time. He has a ‘just do it’ attitude.

What lesson from his past gets him through a stressful situation?

Think it through and never give up.

What one thing would you like readers to know about your hero?

He’s lost a lot of people he loved. Once he takes you on as his chosen family he will protect you with his life.

  • 5 Easy Questions,  Paranormal

Read Worth the Wait by Fiona McGier #RFLblog #ParanormalRomance #PNR

Read Worth the Wait by Fiona McGier #RFLblog #ParanormalRomance #PNRFinding a mate can be difficult when you’re a werewolf, in Fiona McGier’s new paranormal romance Worth the Wait. Your inner wolf chooses for you. What happens when the human part of your mate isn’t ready? Or if the chosen mate doesn’t agree–or worse, doesn’t believe in werewolves?

Fiona, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

Worth the Wait by Fiona McGier

    Genre Paranormal Erotic Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): A steamy R-rated.

This sequel continues the two romances from the first book in the series, When a Wolf Howls, but adds two new ones also, making for a long saga of passion. Saoirse and Diego are married and she has good news for him. Her bestie, Freddie, is thrilled when John moves in with him, but they soon discover issues that need to be resolved. Grant is one of the hunters from Canada, whose wolf has told him that the black she-wolf they saw the last time they were at the academy, is their mate–but he has no idea what she looks like as a human–and he discovers she carries baggage that impedes their romance. Nathan yearns for a love that will last, but when his wolf mates with a female shifter’s wolf, she has no memory of it the next morning. All of these problems will be resolved, but it takes a long time–hence, the title, Worth the Wait.

What’s your favorite down-home family style meal?

My favorite down-home family-style meal is Golabki, or Polish-style cabbage rolls served with mashed potatoes. Dad was from Glasgow, but Mom’s parents were from Poland–and she’s the one who did the cooking. She had no recipe, so I had to watch her make Golabki a few times, writing down what she did. It’s my Busia’s (gramma’s) recipe, and I used to make a huge batch and serve it to my college friends. When my husband wanted me to meet his Polish parents, he told them I made better Golabki than his mother. No pressure, right? But when we had them to dinner, even his Polish mom agreed that mine were better! Wow!

What is your go-to meal when you dine out?

I should have a bumper sticker that says “I brake for Mexican restaurants.” That’s always my first choice. I love posole (a very hot pork soup, which is a lot of work to make at home), and I love chilli rellenos (even more work to make at home)–but there’s one place near me that has chilli relleno tacos to die for! For entrees I like flautas– either pork or beef rolled tightly into a corn tortilla, then deep-fried–as well as tamales. I also love red sangria. And chips and salsa, along with cheese sauce. And cheese quesedillas. Now I’m hungry!

    Describe the perfect vacation.

My idea of a perfect vacation is my husband and I set out with our tiny Scamp camper attached to my truck, and I get to drive where-ever we’re going. I’m a crabby-ass passenger, so husband has learned over the years to bring a book to read, or to take naps while I drive. We love to explore lake areas so we can go swimming, and so he can go fishing, and I can sit somewhere and either write, read, or do crosswords. We both love to hike, especially if there’s a waterfall or something else scenic to see along the trail. And we love to relax around the campfire where we cook our meals, and gaze at the stars after dinner.

Tell us about your favorite toy as a child.

My favorite toy was my huge collection of Barbie dolls and their accoutrements. I had multiple houses, the theater, the car, a pool–in fact, everything to establish an apartment complex on a card table in my bedroom. I only had two male dolls–Ken and Alan, but they had good times with all of my Barbies! Since I loved secret agents TV shows and movies so much, my Barbies were always spies with exotic jobs and exciting adventures all over the world. I never wanted them to get married–they were too busy enjoying their independence–hmm, kind of like the heroines in my books! LOL.

    What are your hobbies?

I’ve been a sewer since Mom showed me how to make Barbie clothes by hand, when I was too young to use the sewing machine. Now I have her old Singer machine–I’ve got a picture of myself as a two-year-old standing next to it. I’ve made everything on it from bathing suits, to Halloween costumes for all four of my kids. I also like to crochet when watching TV with my husband–or sitting around talking with family. I’ve made over 30 afghans over the years for relatives and friends. I also like to bake–muffins, cookies–but I’m known for my homemade pie crusts and my pies. In fact, many of my pie recipes are on my website under the tab “pies” because one of my heroines bakes pies all through the book.

I have always had characters intruding into my thoughts, showing scenes from their lives. When I ignore them, they start to yell louder. If I write their stories so they can live in readers’ heads as well, they usually leave me alone. Soon the next voices appear. I like the noise. I write romances that involve strong, independent women who enjoy casual flings, but are not looking to fall in love. Enter the man who feels the same way–until they both realize this is different. I love the passion of new love!
I keep busy with multiple jobs, and have to squeeze in writing when I should be sleeping. As often as possible, I go out with my family, or just my husband, to view the night stars around a campfire. Stories present themselves to me while driving, while dreaming, and especially while camping.
I write romances that involve strong, independent women who don’t mind casual flings, but who are not looking to fall in love. Enter the man who decides this is the woman for him. I thinks that how they ultimately both realize that they have found the one, is the most interesting part of a romance.

Meet Janet Lane Walters @JanetL717 Author of Tangled Dreams #RLFblog #ContemporaryRomanceLearn a bit about Janet Lane Walters and why she writes books in a number of genres. Her latest Tangled Dreams is a contemporary romance and she’s now working on Nilos, Moon Rising a fantasy.

Janet, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about Tangled Dreams

Tangled Dreams by Janet Lane Walters

    Genre Contemporary romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): 3

Two reasons bring Cancer heroine Janine Rhodes to Fern Lake. The first is the Masters and Doctors program at the nearby university. The second is a letter from a dying woman.

When Virgo Nate Quinn learns about his son’s medical condition, he can barely hold on. Just a year ago, he lost his wife to cancer. His adopted son has become his entire family. When the doctor asks him about the child’s birth parents, he has no idea. He agreed to the adoption but only signed papers and took no other part in the process. Now he needs to locate two people.

Tell us about yourself as a person.

What makes you different from other people?

I’m not sure I’m much different from most people though for most of my life I’ve been a book worm. I was married for sixty plus years to the same man who considered my passion for writing as an obsession. He was a psychiatrist so he might have been right. I have an eclectic family. Three children by birth and one a biracial child by adoption. I have four black grandchildren and three Chinese. Guess that might be a bit different. I’ve lived in anumber of states and fell in love with the Hudson Valley of New York. Many of my stories are sited here. I kind of dabble writing mysteries, contemporary romance, fantasy romances and a fantasy series for young people. As well, I’ve written paranormal stories with history in the background. There are also several non-fiction books, two written when I was ghost writing for doctors and one on writing fiction with a good friend. I’m into Astrology and once earned enough money to make a trip to Ireland doing charts for others. I’ve composed music with several being played at the church I attended. So that’s my very almost ordinary life. I’ve been published since 1968 with time out to return to work as a nurse to help children through college. I also have a BA in English and a BS in Nursing.

    What is your personality type?

I’m rather kind of mixed in personality. There are times when I’ m an introvert and bury myself in words, mine and others. I can also be an extrovert enjoying interacting with people. Lately with the Corono virus, I’ve been more introvert.

What was your favorite childhood game?

As a child during WW II, the games we played were all about planning for an invasion. We ranged the hill in front of our house and dug hidden pits in the ground. We also spent time spotting planes. We became adept with Morse Code. There were also the usual childhood games. Telling ghost stories at night and putting on plays for the neighbors. On the street where I lived, there were 2 girls and eight boys of the same ages. Needless to say things were geared to boys.

Tell us about yourself as a writer.

What made you want to be a writer?

Pneumonia is the culprit. I had been married for a few months and during a regular check-up at the hospital where I worked, they found pneumonia. Back then antibiotics were rare and I was allergic to penicillin so the search went on. On my way home, I stopped at the library and took out a heap of books. My aunt brought some more and my sister-in-law sent a shopping bag. Many of hers were medical romances. After reading a half dozen of them, I tossed the books aside and decided I could do better. They knew nothing about nurses, doctors and hospitals. I remember some of the premises even today and shudder. That’s when the quest began and I started reading books about writing. A few years later, I published my first short story and then went on to writing novel lengths.

What’s your best advice for a new writer?

Finish the book. Don’t keep rewriting the first chapter or chapters over and over until you lose sight of what you want to write. Yes, there are things you know aren’t right and things you may have left out but continue to the end. The end almost always makes you realize when you are finished how much the story and the characters have grown. Then it’s time to start revising. As you continue to write, you will find a system that works for you but this comfort doesn’t start the moment when you first begin writing. You will learn by doing and by trial and error.

What are your writing goals for the next year or so?

Goals are a great thing to have. For the next while I’ll be concentrating on two series to finish both. One is a contemporary Romance Moon Child series and there are seven out of twelve finished. They are books in the 40,000 to 50,000 length. I am also concentrating on a fantasy series Moon Rising that will have six books in total. I’m on the third. These are longer books.

The over fifty titles she has created in her pink cave have made her an Amazon bestselling author and won several awards. She writes sweet to sensual romances about the West, both historical and contemporary as well as time travel and mystery. Her series include the Kincaids, McClintocks, Stone Mountain Texas, Bride Brigade, Texas Time Travel, Texas Caprock Tales, Loving A Rancher, and Pearson Grove as well as numerous single titles and contributions to multi-author sets. When she’s not writing, she loves spending time with her family, reading her friends’ books, lunching with friends, browsing antique malls, checking Facebook, and taking the occasional nap.
