    Sommerville Holidays by Vicki Batman

    Genre: Romantic comedy short stories

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): G

Hopes and wishes and holiday kisses…Sommerville holidays.

Story Blurb: Holiday Disaster: Days before Christmas, a librarian experiences plumbing issues and visits from Mr. Maintenance Man who isn’t nearly as jolly as Santa Claus.

The Littlest Angel: Two people. One ornament for the tree. Can a twosome find common ground and discover the true meaning of Christmas?

Holiday Handbag Extravaganza: Christmas Countdown is on! A hunk-a-licious customer pesters a boutique owner to locate a vintage handbag for his mother. Too bad the wedge between them is his sister, the meanest girl in town.

    QUICK

Do you write more than one genre? If so, what are they?…

I write romantic comedy mysteries (the Hattie Cook mystery series) and romantic comedy short stories.

How do you come up with ideas?…

Oh my! Every story is different. For “Holiday Disaster,” I really did have an incident when I was a single girl and dropped my contact down the drain. I had little money to buy a new one; so there was no choice but to call Mr. Maintenance Man. However, the guy wasn’t nearly as much fun as my fictional guy. In “The Littlest Angel” I based the story on a Christmas ornament a family friend gave my mom. In “Holiday Handbag Extravaganza,” I pay tribute to a favorite handbag designer, Enid Collins.

What is the single most important part of writing for you?…

Getting the story right. I work and work before it is edited and then work some more. I confess, I’m a slow writer.

When did you write your first book?…

I began writing sixteen years ago. Wow! Time has flown by.

    FUN

    Leather or lace? Leather-handbags. LOL

Black or red? Love red. Wear black.

Satin sheets or smooth cotton? Cotton, preferably soft flannel.

    Ocean or mountains? Mountains.

City life or country life? City life.

Party life or evening at home? Evening at home watching The Holiday Baking Championship with Handsome

    Dogs or cats? Both!

Fiction Furbaby: Meet Merlin from Kittens and Kisses at the Cat Café, a sweet #romance by Kris Bock @Kris_Bock @RobsRescues #RLFblog #Pets

Kris Bock, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! We support all furbabies, real life or fictional. We want to know all about your Fiction Furbaby, but first, please tell us about your book.

Kittens and Kisses at the Cat Café: A Furrever Friends Sweet Romance by Kris Bock

    Genre Contemporary Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): G

He’s loved her forever. She still sees him as the neighbor kid. Can five desperate kittens bring them together?

Marley is a baker at the new Furrever Friends Cat Café, which is still trying to find its footing. Her nine-year-old son, Brian, desperately wants a kitten, but they can’t have pets where they live. Who has the time to date? Just as well that she’s protected her heart since the father of her child disappeared.

Adam has loved Marley since he was 13, and she was his best friend’s free-spirited older sister. Back then, he fantasized about rescuing her from bandits or dragons. Now he’s 24, and the five-year age gap isn’t so serious. He wants nothing more than to become a family with Marley and her son. But will she ever see him as a man?

When someone leaves a box of week-old kittens at the café, Adam jumps at the chance to be a hero. But herding kittens might be tougher than fighting dragons, especially when two of them fail to thrive. Can Adam, Marley, and Brian save the kittens and find a future together?

Meet Merlin from Kittens and Kisses at the Cat Café

    Full name: Merlin

    Nickname: Merlin

    Gender: mail

    Species: Maine Coon cat

    Physical description: big, shaggy, gray

Relationship to main character: Merlin lives at the cat café where Marley is a baker

Where this furbaby came from: he’s a shelter cat looking for his forever home

How do other characters react to or interact with this furbaby?

When the story’s lead characters start fostering five struggling kittens, Merlin literally jumps in to help. The kittens see him as their surrogate mama.

What does this furbaby add to the story?

The Cat Café series features lots of shelter cats who live at the café while waiting for adoption. In each book, one or more find their permanent homes. Merlin appeared in the first book as one of many cats named. He quickly developed a distinct personality and became a reader (and author) favorite. He finds his permanent home in book 3, Tea and Temptation at the Cat Café, but I’ll have to bring him back as a regular visitor.

What about this furbaby will readers like, and why?

Maine Coon cats are known for being friendly and loyal, as well as extra-large. Some of them will happily accompany their people on outside activities, either on or off a leash. They’re sort of a blend of a dog and a cat, which makes them perfect for readers and owners who like both. Merlin adores everyone, grown human or child, cat or kitten, and he’s always up for a game or a cuddle.

Please share an interesting fact or tidbit about this furbaby.

Merlin is something of an escape artist. In the first book in the series, Coffee and Crushes at the Café, main character Kari shows up to her cat café one morning to discover Merlin trapped between the outer and inner door. He opened the inner door but couldn’t unlock the outer door. It’s a reminder of one of the challenges of cat cafés – keeping the cats contained, and especially out of the food prep area.

Describe a humorous incident involving the animal character.

In Kittens and Kisses, Merlin escapes the main café room where the cats are supposed to be contained and makes his way to the office. He mews at the door until Marley lets him in and then jumps on the desk and into the box of foster kittens. As Marley notes, he volunteers to be a nanny.

    About Panda and Bear

I’m writing a series about a cat café. But I don’t have cats. Huh?

I love cats. I have known cats and enjoyed them in small doses. But tragically, I am very allergic to cats, so I cannot let one keep me as a servant. (I’m getting allergy shots, so maybe that will change in the future. All hail our fluffy overlords!) In the meantime, I will write about a cat cafe, which gives me a chance to look at lots of pictures and videos of adorable cats and kittens.

Instead, my husband and I keep ferrets. They are similar to cats in some ways. When they play, they are as rambunctious as kittens. Like adult cats, they sleep most of the time. Princess Pandemonium (Panda) and Teddy Black Bear (Bear Bear) provide us with lots of amusement, snuggles, and cute photos for social media.

At thirty-two, Hannah Wagstaff’s scandalous past, and the scar it left her with, has made her a spinster, scaring away any offers of marriage. She had given up on love until by chance she was reunited with Patrick, a man who had lit a flame in her heart years ago before disappearing from her life.

Patrick O’Doherty couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw Hannah. He had been certain he would never see her again, but there she was, and this time he would do anything to keep her in his life.

Things take a drastic turn when Patrick’s vengeful stepfather starts demanding ownership of the cattle station that was left to Patrick by his father. Suddenly, Patrick finds himself on the run for his life, trying to uncover the secrets of his stepfather’s past and the reason he would be willing to murder for a cattle station.

Hannah is distraught when she’s told Patrick died in a fire. Her grief continues when her sister is kidnapped without any clue to who could have taken her. Months later, when her sister returns, Hannah goes looking for the culprit. What she finds is Patrick, alive and working as a bartender at a hotel.

Passionately reunited with Hannah, Patrick discovers that not only is his life under threat, but hers as well. What secrets tie their families together? Will he be able to protect Hannah, or will his love for her ultimately cost him his life?

Finding her dead, there was a struggle with her attacker and Patrick is injured. He blindly tries to find his way free of the burning building, having failed to save the woman he’d come after. Struggling from the house, he tries to pull himself up onto the back of a very scared horse, but is bucked from it’s back, hitting the ground hard, that he fears death isn’t far behind.

Is It True: My Past, Your Future by Gabbi Grey @gabbigrey #RLFblog #gayromance

Is It True: My Past, Your Future by Gabbi Grey @gabbigrey #RLFblog #gayromanceWelcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Let’s play Is It True with today’s guest, Gabbi Grey, author of My Past, Your Future, a Paranormal Romance. This is a game with yes and no questions. Writers can elaborate on answers as much as they choose.

My Past, Your Future by Gabbi Grey

    Genre Gay Paranormal Erotic Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

Callum MacLaren, a professor from Scotland, visits Willow Springs, Vermont during the Winter Solstice to study and explore the rich history of St. Joseph’s Cemetery. His encounter with a sexy soldier in a tattered Civil War uniform is a captivating puzzle, and the more he learns, the deeper his attraction.

A hundred and fifty years ago, Elijah Freeman was killed during the Second Battle of Fort Wagner and woke up in Willow Springs, the only home he’d known. Alone, he roams the town, unable to leave or interact with a single soul until an intriguing Scot addresses him. Even stranger, the man can see him, hear him, and touch him–a sizzling caress that leaves Elijah aching for more.

But will Elijah return to his ghostly form when the magic of the solstice fades, or is Callum’s love enough to keep him in the land of the living?

    Is it true:

    this is your first book?

This is my first book. I’m super excited about and nervous.

this book is part of a series?

Yes, this book is part of a series. The Wild Rose Press has created an inn in a fictious Vermont town. The Deerbourne Inn books are loosely connected stories set in the town of Willow Springs.

you lost sleep while writing this book?

Not true. Although my characters make me work hard to give them a proper happy ending, my slumber wasn’t interrupted.

you did research for this book?

I did research for the book. One of the characters is a history professor visiting from Scotland (don’t you just love their accents?), and the other character was a black soldier in the American Civil War. I had to research life back in the 1860s as well as the war itself. I worry about the details but hope I got it right.

some characters in this book are not human? (pets for example)

One of the characters is a ghost. That’s not human, right? He died over one hundred and fifty years ago, fighting for the union army.

this book has more than one genre?

Yes, this book straddles genres. First and foremost, it is a romance with a happy ending. Secondly, it is a gay romance – two men falling in love. Thirdly it is erotic – happy times are had in the cabin they are forced to share during a winter storm. Finally, there are paranormal elements. I didn’t set out to write a paranormal romance but if you have a ghost, it gets included in that category. I see my character as a real person, even if he is dead.

you speak more than one language?

True. I grew up in Ottawa, Canada. The city is separated from the French province of Quebec by the Ottawa river, but that’s easy to cross these days. My parents put me in a program called French Immersion and I spent more than half my school day studying French. I’ve lost some of it but I drop the occasional French word in my stories.

you grew up where you live now?

False. I grew up in Ottawa the capital of Canada. I now live on the west coast in a little town called Mission. I love beautiful British Columbia and can’t believe I get to make this place my home.

    you love to read?

Absolutely true. Although I listen to audiobooks, I count that as reading. Last year I listened to over two hundred books and am already on track for something similar this year.

    you are never late?

Another true. I plan carefully to always arrive at least fifteen minutes early. I never leave home without my iPod, so I can listen to an audiobook while waiting. I’m a firm believer in courtesy – if you’re making time for me, the least I can be is prompt.

    you love pizza?

Who doesn’t? Pizza is something we don’t eat very often, so when I do, it’s a treat. I love bacon, mushrooms, and green olives.

    you love sushi?

Uh, no. Never. Raw fish holds less than zero appeal to me.

    you have a pet?

This is probably the most important truth. I have a sixteen-year-old purebred Himalayan cat named Lady Arabella de Bergerac (her father was Cyrano). Her trusted companion is my four-year-old chinpoo, Ally. Ally is ten pounds of pure love. She’s a therapy dog, and so is often allowed with me into restaurants, stores, nursing homes, and hospitals. Ally brings happiness wherever she goes. I might have rescued her, but she’s the one who saved me.
