Do It Write: Where Lyndell Williams writes @laylawriteslove #RLFblog #contemporaryromanceLyndell Williams, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Before we talk about your office, please tell us about your latest book.

My Way to You by Lyndell Williams

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
Lawyer Simon Young is smart, confident, and adept at keeping things with women casual–until he meets his best friend Marcus’s sister, Regina. Immediately intrigued by Regina’s beauty, Simon becomes increasingly enthralled and ultimately risks his friendship to have her for himself.
Social justice writer and activist Regina Kent is usually cautious and savvy. Yet, unable to resist her attraction to the handsome Simon, she plunges into a torrid affair, knowing that she chances angering big brother and her less tolerant followers, many of whom will not accept that one of their most popular pro-Black bloggers is dating an Asian man.
As their clandestine romance evolves, Simon and Regina fall deeper in love. Making sure that things stay between them becomes progressively impossible, and neither knows how much longer they can keep Marcus in the dark and the world at bay.
How long have you been writing?
I’ve been writing in varying capacities since I started writing for my college newsletter. Once I got bit with the writing bug, I expanded into writing for online publications as well as writing essays for a literary journal, books, and peer-reviewed articles.
This year, I had several short stories published in collections and published my first novel.
What was your first published book?
My Way to You is my first novel. It is an interracial romance about an Asian American lawyer who falls in love with an African American pro-Black blogger. They have to learn to comfort each other as each encounters levels of racial microaggressions from society. They also have to worry about her big brother finding out, who would not appreciate his best friend and little sister dating.
Tell us about your writing space or home office.
My writing space is in a corner of my bedroom in our family’s cozy cape. I bought one of those affordable big box store tables and a swivel chair to stake my claim. The table hosts my laptop (pc of course) with an attached keyboard and second monitor. My writing demand requires an ability to work from multiple screens.
I also have a wonderful lamp I got from my daughter as a gift. It has multiple settings, which is great when I’m trying to work at 4 a.m. while my husband sleeps.
    Anything special about your space?
My space is also “mommy central.” Because I try to get writing done during a day packed with mothering 6 kids and homeschooling as well as communicating with colleagues and students, I have a bunch of non-writing supplies, such as combs and brushes to do my little one’s hair and moisturizing butter to keep everyone’s skin smooth.
What do you love most about that area?
It’s where the magic happens. There is something about being there that helps trigger my creativity. I can get work done in other places. I’ve written chapters and articles on my cell phone, but nothing gets as ready to write as sitting at my desk with a cup of coffee.
What would like to change about your home office?
Do It Write: Where Lyndell Williams writes @laylawriteslove #RLFblog #contemporaryromanceI would like for it to be an actual office with a lock and guard dog sitting outside. One of the biggest challenges in having a corner and not an office is blocking out the world, especially a tenacious pack of kids determined to make your writing time theirs.
I think one of the things I most need is a full space with my books and research. I’m eyeing my oldest son’s bedroom. When he’s finished with college, he’s gonna have to spread his wings so I can get my office.
If money was no object, what would your home office look like?
It wouldn’t be a matter of what but who. I so need an assistant. My scheduling skills are so out of whack, and I need someone to help me keep an organized content calendar for the multiple blogs I manage and manage my time to get semester grading done, progress in writing my next book and contribute to the list of projects I’m committed to completing.
My home office would like a regular one because I would have an assistant with a desk.
How do you juggle writing and family?
I don’t know how to juggle. I drop a bunch of balls all of the time. Fortunately, I have a great husband who makes sure I get out of my chair and spend some time with the family. He’s also awesome at picking up the slack at home despite working 90 hours a week himself.
If I find myself with an immediate deadline, I can count on him to help out around the house so I can keep those keys clicking. It’s extremely important. I couldn’t do any of my work if he didn’t.
What’s the last book about writing that you read?
That would be the Associated Press Stylebook. I kid you not. I write a lot of online articles, so I need that by my side.
I also get into friendly skirmishes with fellow writers about things like the Oxford comma, so I use it for ammunition.
What book or books about writing do you recommend for new authors?
The Best Punctuation Book, Period is pretty great. The author, June Casagrande has a lot of great books on writing.
What do you like to read for relaxation?
I enjoy reading other romance authors. I’ve become hooked on Black women romance authors like Twyla Turner, Love Journey, Reana Malori and Aubree Pynn. They introduce readers to some culturally-specific romance and explore some topics and corners from which other romance authors might not.

    Drakon’s Tear by NJ Walters @njwaltersauthor #RLFblog #PNR

Drakon's Tear by NJ Walters @njwaltersauthor #RLFblog #PNRNJ Walters, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

    Drakon’s Tear by NJ Walters

    Genre Paranormal Romance/Shapeshifter
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
Dying isn’t an option. I’ve survived a kidnapping, and now I’m on the run from the Knights of the Dragon who want my gift. There’s nothing a dragon loves more than treasure. I’m Abigail Owens, and I can sense gemstones. When I find myself drawn to a beautiful stone bracelet at a tiny shop in Moscow, I can’t help but have it — even though I can sense it’s power. But I didn’t realize with this one decision I’ve just put myself in the middle of a war between the Knights and a Drakon.
I guess I’m just lucky like that.
The only person I trust even a little is Vasili Zima, which is weird since I’m not sure if he wants to kill me or protect me. I’m drawn to him in a way I hadn’t thought possible, and he feels the same way, or he wouldn’t be risking his life to help me. He’s wanted by the bad guys just as much as I am, and staying with me, well, there’s a hundred percent chance I’m about to get us both killed. But I will not be going down without a fight.

(Author’s Note: This book is NOT first person point of view.)

    QUICK

Do you write more than one genre? If so, what are they?…
I write romance, but have explored many different sub-genres—erotic, ménage a trois, contemporary, sci-fi, and paranormal. The past half dozen years or more it’s been mostly paranormal romance. I can’t seem to get enough shifters, especially werewolves and drakons.
How do you come up with ideas?…
Book ideas come from everywhere—TV shows, magazine articles, snippets of overheard conversation, an online quiz, non-fiction books, songs. There is no end to possibilities. It’s all in the combination of the ideas. That’s what makes it so much fun. Sometimes an idea will seemingly pop into my head out of nowhere while I’m out walking or doing housework.
I’ve carried some ideas around with me for years. That’s what happened with the Blood of the Drakon series. I always knew I wanted to write about drakons (the offspring between pure-blooded dragons and human women), but the characters didn’t really start talking to me until a few years ago.
While I was waiting for the drakons, I had plenty of alpha werewolves demanding stories of their own.
What is the single most important part of writing for you?…
Everything starts with the characters. I may have an idea, but until I know the hero and heroine I don’t even think about writing. I write mini bios on index cards. I’ll often learn a lot more about them as I go, but that’s where I start.
Once I understand who the characters are, their story naturally arises from that. I’ll often have a couple of ideas for scenes or conflicts before I begin, but I’m more a pantser than a plotter.
As soon as I know what the first scene is going to be I start writing.
When did you write your first book?…
I wrote my first book back in the mid 1990s. I’d always been a voracious reader, but it never occurred to me that I might write until I was unemployed for a short while. I decided to give it a try and wrote 2 books. I submitted them to a couple of publishers, but they were rejected. I put the books away and didn’t start writing again until 2003. I wrote a short novel and submitted it to one of the early e-publishers and had it accepted. Annabelle Lee was released in October of 2004 (it’s since been rereleased as Uncovering Annabelle).
And the two books I wrote back in the 1990s…they were rewritten and Discovering Dani and The Way Home became the first two books of my Jamesville series.

Spirit and Spells by Michelle M Pillow

Genre : Scottish Paranormal Contemporary Romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
Charlotte Carver is going insane—suffering with everything from memory loss, to hallucinations, to phantom conversations she can’t recall having. Something tells her it’s not a coincidence that it all started when the MacGregor family moved to town, and the one person who knows what’s going on is the last person Charlotte would ask for help. Her new landlord, Niall MacGregor, is not the most approachable man but that hasn’t stopped the brooding Scottish biker from invading her dreams.
Motorcycle riding werewolf, Niall MacGregor is the longtime supernatural enforcer for his warlock family. He has regretted more than a few things he’s done in the name of duty, but taking Charlotte’s memories is the biggest. It was necessary, to both protect the family and save Charlotte’s sanity. But the intimate glimpse into her mind has only made him want things he can never have—including the gorgeous, brave woman herself.
When luck finds Charlotte’s memories returning, her attraction to Niall explodes, thrusting her into a magickal world. There is little time to adjust as another of Niall’s past regrets has come back to threaten everything they hold dear.

Know the Hero from Gabe by Veronica Scott @vscotttheauthor #RLFblog #scifi romanceVeronica Scott, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! We’re excited to find out more about your hero, but first, tell us about the book.

Gabe: A Badari Warriors Sci Fi Romance (Sectors New Allies Book 5) by Veronica Scott

    Genre Science Fiction Romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG13+
Gabe Carter, hotshot pilot and ex-Special Forces soldier, is far from his home in the human Sectors, kidnapped by alien scientists to be the subject of horrifying experiments. Shot down by the enemy over desolate territory far from his Badari allies and gravely injured, Gabe’s only hope is a mysterious woman on the run herself.
Keshara has to decide whether to abandon the human to die of his injuries on a windswept mountain top or give up her own quest for freedom and take him to a place he can be helped. The undeniable spark between them complicates matters.
His attraction to her is off the charts but when she betrays him to the Khagrish enemy, Gabe doesn’t know what to believe. Trapped inside an alien lab bursting with mysteries and lies, his only hope may be to trust her…again.
Because the renegade alien scientist running her own private experiments wants to use him to accomplish her goals and perpetuate the evil, no matter what she has to do to ensure his compliance. Keshara’s life hangs in the balance and Gabe has to make a choice.
This is the sixth book in the Badari Warriors world (and the fifth book in the series) and each novel has a satisfying Happy for Now ending for the hero and heroine, not a cliffhanger. Some overarching issues do remain unresolved in each book since this is an ongoing series but romance always wins the day in my novels!

Know the Hero from Gabe: A Badari Warriors SciFi Romance Novel (Sectors New Allies Series Book 5)

Here are some fun questions to help us know your hero.
It’s late, he’s bored. What does he do?
Gabe can’t stand being inactive or bored so he’d get up a card game with buddies, maybe go for a late night run or volunteer for extra duty in his pilot job.
What kind of food would he impulse buy if hungry?
He works hard to stay in shape, to be prepared for combat missions and eats very healthy foods, so probably a mix of carbs and proteins, maybe trail mix with nuts and dried berries if he only needs a snack.
Describe the kind of clothes he prefers to wear.
He generally wears black tee shirts, camouflage utility pants and combat boots. Plus of course his knife and a blaster!
Does he know how to fix things?
He’s a soldier and a pilot primarily but he’ll make an attempt to fix things in an emergency. He’s got a good technical mind and understands the bigger picture of how things work in his technologically advanced universe. His way of fixing things might not be the conventional solution but it works.
He tried to do something and it went badly. Tell us about it.
Gabe does the best he can under any situation and if there’s a failure, he learns from it and moves on. He’s not easily defeated – he’s constantly thinking of alternative solutions and will only give up when he’s dead…so, in effect as long as he’s breathing, he’s moving forward and problem solving.
The book begins with him flying through a storm, trying to escape three enemy fighters, and he eventually crashes, but Gabe perseveres despite his injuries.
How does he act around children he doesn’t know?
Gaber doesn’t have much experience with kids but he likes them, especially their thirst for knowledge about the world around them. He enjoys tutoring the Badari cubs in the sanctuary valley, which he does as he has free time.
What is he like first thing in the morning?
He’s not a morning person but give him something hot with a hefty dose of caffeine and he’s ready to go. In combat situations, he doesn’t have the luxury of waiting for the ideal time of day, so he’s trained himself to respond rapidly at any hour of the day or night.
How does he act around people who don’t know what he is?
Gabe’s always himself – he doesn’t put on airs and he’s not boastful. What you see in what you get with him. Most people in the valley are aware he’s an ex-Special Forces soldier and they know he’s a hot pilot. They can see how the Alpha relies on Gabe for tackling dangerous assignments, so he lets his actions speak for him.
Will he let a worker handle things or do it himself?
If a worker is assigned to do a specific task, like servicing the engines of captured enemy flyers, he’ll stay out of the person’s way. Otherwise, he’s a self-service kinda guy who’d rather just take care of whatever needs doing.
    Earrings/piercings/tattoos or unadorned skin?
He has a Sectors Special Forces tattoo on his upper bicep. No piercings. Not to give spoilers here but IF Gabe was to become the mate of a Badari woman (author gives coy grin here – you’ll have to read the book), then he’d receive a ‘claiming mark’ on his shoulder, which the Badari goddess would turn into a golden circle like a tatt on his shoulder, to show her approval of the mate bond.
    Personal vehicle or public transport?
In the dire situation on the Badari planet, there aren’t any private vehicles. He flies shuttles which have been captured from the enemy, in support of military operations.
    Recycle or toss?
Recycle! Gabe’s a practical guy and he cares about the environment.

Thanks for helping us get to know your hero!
