Kayelle Allen here. Wow, has Marketing for Romance Writers grown! Back in 2006 when I started this group, I was a busy author with four books. I was promoting, learning more about promoting, and asking friends about promoting. All the ins and outs of book marketing were starting to gel and I was beginning to understand the overall concept. That said, I had a constant list of questions. Facebook was two years old. Twitter had been founded that year. Pinterest and Instagram were four years away. How was I supposed to promote on social media? Did I need a blog?

I had friends who had similar questions, and we would email each other and ask. Often, I’d get the same question several times in a row. I found myself going back to my “sent” file to copy an answer and resend it. Not that I wasn’t asking questions myself, but I think because I’d take the time to go find an answer if someone asked and I didn’t know – I started getting more and more questions.

It was Halloween, and I was busy with all sorts of details of writing, and I got the same question from two different people. I remember thinking that there had to be an easier way to handle this. I needed a way to let everyone know what I’d discovered at the same time, and if I had a question, get an answer from someone who knew. Yahoo Groups was established and well-used, so I decided to create one that all of my friends and I could use together. We could post a question there, and anyone who knew the answer could reply.

I set it up as Marketing for Romance Writers because that’s what all of us were at the time. Our members are not just romance writers, however. They come from all genres. Looking back, I’ve often wished I’d named it Marketing for Every Writer. Of course, then the initials would have been MEW vs MFRW and our symbol might have been a black cat!

In 2006, we had 12 members. Eleven years later, there are 2420 of us, plus 6781 on Facebook, 3875 on Twitter, untold numbers on Goodreads, and 1492+ on Pinterest with 54 boards and over 790 pins. Our staff of volunteers produces an award winning newsletter and in 2018, we will publish a montly magazine. How can we promote for you?

DM Roberto author of Moon Kissed Magic answers five easy questions.
Please tell us about yourself.
DM Roberto is a lover of books and a compulsive reader. Venturing into the world of GBLT, Ménage and erotic romance, she found her new favorite genre to explore. With time and lots of Johnny Depp movies to inspire her, DM Roberto creates heartfelt stories that hopefully readers will enjoy and fall in love with. Living with her two kids, a significant other who supports her every move in writing and doesn’t seem to mind she gets up at 2 am to type away on the computer. She looks forward to creating stories that readers will love and enjoy.
What’s your favorite down-home family style meal?
Depends on what I am in the mood for. When it’s cool and fall like, I go to homemade soups, chili or chowders with fresh homemade bread. Other times its pasta and red sauce with homemade meatballs or yankee pot roast in the slow cooker.
Who is your “book boyfriend” (that hottie you read about and drool over)?
Oh man do I have to choose one? *grins* My ultimate book boyfriend is Jamie from Outlander. I fell in love with his and Claire’s story so long ago and enjoy seeing the books come alive on TV now.
What are your hobbies?
I read a lot, cook/bake, take hikes with the family, bike if its nice out and watch my favorite TV/movie shows. I do enjoy going to the bookstore just to wander the stacks to see what is out and new to read as well.
When you read for pleasure, what kind of books do you choose?
Again my mood plays a part in choosing something to read. Lately I am binge reading Celina Summers Asphodel Cycle books which are Fantasy at its finest. Or I’ll grab a paranormal from one of my favorite authors. It’s a tossup with what I read and some days I am in crime/thrillers as well.
If the hero of your latest book called you on the phone, what would be a perfect ringtone for him?
Oh lordy, Rodrick’s ringtone would probably be something like Iron Maiden or something. He is a Harley driving wolf shifter who has the playboy reputation down pat.
Please tell us about your latest book.

Meet Senth from Bro by Kayelle Allen #RLFblog #SciFi #FreeBookLet’s meet Senth Antonello from Bro, the Story Behind the Antonello Brothers, by Kayelle Allen. This science fiction romance prequel is free to download and read book relates how the Antonello brothers, Senth and Khyff, met. Their full Sci Fi Romance stories are found in At the Mercy of Her Pleasure and For Women Only.

Interview with Senth Antonello

Tell us about yourself, please.
Where to start? Okay, I’m the Deshai (student) of Luc Saint-Cyr, who was the Grand Master of the Thieves’ Guild. I’m also his adopted son, but more about that later. The other thing you should know is I’m a level 19 in the guild, which is called Advanced Interior Security. It means I can break into complex systems such as a Vassindorf. That probably doesn’t mean much to you, but not to brag, in our world it means I’m one of the best. And I guess you’d want to know I’m what’s called a HalfKin. It means one parent was human and the other was Kin. They’re a feline race. I look human except for fangs in the front of my mouth and I have slit-pupils like a cat. I can also be very quiet and I can — to a limited degree — smell emotions. I just got the coolest cloak — the cloth can be “activated” and render me invisible. How cool is that?
Authors call what you want but cannot have “the conflict” of the story. What is your conflict?
That’s a tough one. In this story, it’s finding out whether the guy who says he’s my long lost half brother is what he says he is. I mean, it’s not such a big deal if he’s related to me. I’d like to have a brother. But my dad? People try to claim relationships to him all the time. Supposedly, he heads one of the largest crime syndicates in the Tarthian Empire. I’ve never seen evidence of that, but then he doesn’t live with me. I don’t know what he does when I’m not around. One thing I do know for sure. He isn’t called the most powerful man in the empire for nothing. People don’t even say his name out loud. They refer to him as the Man. It frosts his socks that I tease him by calling him “Daddy.” Heh. He hates nicknames and refuses to call me Senth. He goes by the full version, Senthys. I mean what kind of name is that for a thief? So I call him Dad or Daddy, depending on how much I want to needle him.
What can you not do (but need to do) during this story?
I need to find out the truth about my so-called half-brother. But does “Daddy” want me to do that? Nooooo.
What inner doubt causes you the most difficulty?
Yeah, see I avoid that kind of thinking because if you think you’re weak at something then you are. But to be honest, I worry about whether my dad’s proud of me. His shadow is a cold place to walk. He’s accomplished so much and I’m the youngest of six adopted boys. We didn’t grow up together. The other five were already gone by the time he picked me up, but all of us have this fear of disappointing him.
What is your family like?
Oh you don’t even want to know that. Let’s put it this way. Richest dad in the empire. Teenager who lives at home with a staff of people who — I’m convinced — are there just to keep tabs on him and tell him when the kid screws up. Not an easy situation. And don’t think ’cause he’s rich I have this sweet life. I don’t. My earnings as a thief go straight into my upkeep. I get an allowance paid out of what I earn. I earn nothing, I get nothing. If I want more play money, I gotta steal it.
What special skills do you rely on?
I’m a right clinkers pickpocket. Uh, which means “awesome” in your parlance. You want to know more? Gotta read the story. Thieves’ Guild members can’t tell non-members much about anything. Sorry. Way it is. But Kayelle– she blabbed more than she ought to in this book.

About Kayelle Allen

Kayelle did a tour in the US Navy, where she climbed around airplanes (on the ground, thankfully) fixing black boxes that helped pilots find their way home. She wrote her first science fiction novel at 18 and to this day, it’s hidden under the bed, where she vows it will remain. Gems from it, however, launched several series in her galaxy-wide universe of stories. From childhood, Kayelle was the victim of an overactive imagination and inherited the Irish gift of gab from her mother. From her father, she got a healthy respect for mechanical things. No wonder she writes Science Fiction and Fantasy peopled with misbehaving robots, mythic heroes, role playing immortal gamers, and warriors who purr. She’s been married so long she’s tenured.
What was your biggest challenge in writing this book?
I had written the books At the Mercy of Her Pleasure and For Women Only several years before, so re-entering their universe was a challenge. To prepare for it, I re-read both books. Fell in love with the brothers all over again. Each is unique, and rediscovering them was a treat. I wanted this book to capture them as they were right before they met, so getting the feel for that took me some time.
Why did you choose this character for the interview today?
Senth is a fun-loving guy. He’s always “on” and laughing. Getting himself into scrapes. Trouble seems to follow him but he always gives it the slip. He has incredible luck. And his relationship with his adoptive father is complex, angst-filled, and filled with humor. When he meets his half-brother for the first time, it changes Senth’s entire life.
When writing the book, what did you discover about this character that surprised you?
How worried he was about disappointing Luc (his father). He comes across in other books as nonchalant and unimpressed by his uber-powerful parent. In reality, there’s much more love and respect than I had ever guessed.
Are any sequels planned for this book?
There are two already written and I have a third in the works.
Why should readers who haven’t picked up one of your books before give this one a try?
This is a great intro book. It’s free on my website and once you download it, you get a nice taste of my writing. You also get three other freebies at the same time.
Please tell us about the book.
Bro, the Story Behind the Antonello Brothers
When you can make yourself invisible, invisible truths are revealed.
Senth and Khyff, the Antonello Brothers from At the Mercy of Her Pleasure and For Women Only, did not grow up together. They were separated at Senth’s birth. Bro shows how and why, and what event reunited them.
Dramatic, funny, touching, Bro takes you inside the Tarthian Empire and introduces you to three of its major denizens: brothers Senth and Khyff Antonello, and Luc Saint-Cyr. You’ll find them in many stories in the Empire. Come and meet them in Bro.

Welcome Linda Mooney (writing as Gail Smith), author of Blood Tenderly, a new paranormal horror romance.

Why did you write this book?
I saw a comment on Facebook where one author commented that, “Horror is not romantic.” She was responding to another person about whether or not certain horror movies also contain romantic elements.
This got me to thinking. First off, I love a challenge. So I asked myself, could there be a romance that had elements of horror? It took me a while to come up with an idea, and Blood Tenderly is my answer. But since it’s equal parts horror and romance, I’m releasing it under my horror pseudonym of Gail Smith.
What is your favorite genre to read?
Believe it or not, horror! Followed by non-fiction. Romance is a close third.
Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?
Sherlock Holmes. I like to challenge myself and see if I can’t deduce what he’s thinking or planning before it’s revealed. I especially love the TV and movie versions starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Robert Downey, Jr.
What are you working on at the moment?
It’s a contemporary fantasy featuring a gargoyle, entitled Stone.
What books will we see from you in coming months?
This past year, my New Year’s Resolution was to 1) end a series, 2) continue a series, and 3) begin a new series. I’ve kept that resolution with 1) Neverwylde, 2) Predator of the Pines, Subwoofers Bk. 4, and 3) Sky Titan, Deities Bk. 1.
I plan to do that again. However, which books I’ll write to fulfill that remains to be seen. (It depends on what my muse tells me to do, LOL!)
Please tell us about your latest book.

Play Is It True with today’s guest NJ Walters, author of Eternal Brothers, a paranormal vampire romance. This is a game in which authors answer yes and no questions. They can elaborate on answers as much as they choose.

First, tell us about your book.

When an anonymous late-night tip sends reporter Sophia Daring to the cemetery, she isn’t prepared for what she finds there—a grisly murder scene and the body of a woman completely drained of blood. Sophia’s never been scared off a story before, but this time all the clues point to one disturbing conclusion: this was the work of the mysterious and dangerous Dalakis brothers. And just as unsettling for the fiercely independent Sophia is the irresistible pull of the stranger also working the case, the sensually compelling Zane York.

A ex-cop, Zane has made it his personal mission to prove that the secretive Dalakis family are powerful vampires and ruthless killers. But when his investigation takes him to New Orleans and their latest victim, he begins to suspect that the Dalakis are being framed by an enemy as dark and mysterious as they are. And even as he struggles with his doubts about the family, there’s no doubt about his hungry response to the hauntingly beautiful Sophia. He knows he must make her his own, whatever the cost.

As the smoldering chemistry between Sophia and Zane ignites in a delirious haze of passion, they will find themselves immersed in the Dalakis family secrets and the trail of murder that leads to their door. And as their fears and suspicions war with an unquenchable desire, she and Zane will discover that a secret from the past may pose the deadliest threat yet…
