Veronica Scott author of Star Cruise: Marooned @vscotttheautor #RLFblog #SFR

Veronica Scott author of Star Cruise: Marooned answers five easy
questions to help readers get to know her better.

    Author Bio

    Best Selling Science Fiction &
Paranormal Romance author and “SciFi Encounters” columnist for the USA Today
Happily Ever After blog, Veronica Scott grew up in a house with a library as
its heart. Dad loved science fiction, Mom loved ancient history and Veronica
thought there needed to be more romance in everything. When she ran out of
books to read, she started writing her own stories.
Three time winner of the Galaxy
Award, as well as a National Excellence in Romance Fiction Award, Veronica is
also the proud recipient of a NASA Exceptional Service Medal relating to her
former day job, not her romances!
    What is your go-to meal
    when you dine out?
I love Panda Express and I’ll have their honey walnut
shrimp, pot stickers and spring rolls plus fried rice. This all goes perfectly
with an iced tea and of course the fortune cookie!
Who is your “book boyfriend” (that hottie you read
    about and drool over)?
I have many but the guy I consistently return to is Judd
Lauren from Nalini Singh’s Caressed by Ice.
    What are your hobbies?
When I’m not writing my own stories, or reading, I like to
spend time with my grandson. We build epic Lego kits together! I enjoy going to
movies. I used to sew and do quite a bit of crafting, but now the writing takes
up the majority of my time. My sportiest activity currently is taking long
walks, although I enjoy volleyball and archery.
    When you read for pleasure,
what kind of books do you choose?
I read a lot in my own genre of science fiction romance but
I also enjoy paranormal, epic fantasy romance, historical (ancient world and
Regency), and some contemporary. I’ve been known to read a suspense novel every
now and then, and I used to devour mysteries.
    What kinds of things do
you read when you’re researching a new book?
For Star Cruise: Marooned I researched all things to do with
cruise ships, the typical jobs on one, the cruise workers’ union, typical ports
of call, menus…lots of Google time. For my ancient Egyptian fantasies, I have
an entire library of scholarly tomes and again, of course the endless Google
    research.

    About the Book

    Genre Science Fiction Romance
    Author Veronica Scott
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG-13
Meg Antille works long hours on the
charter cruise ship Far Horizon so she can send credits home to her family.
Working hard to earn a promotion to a better post (and better pay), Meg has no
    time for romance.
    Former Special Forces soldier Red
Thomsill only took the berth on the Far Horizon in hopes of getting to know Meg
better, but so far she’s kept him at a polite distance. A scheduled stopover on
the idyllic beach of a nature preserve planet may be his last chance to impress
    the girl.
But when one of the passengers is
attacked by a wild animal it becomes clear that conditions on the lushly
forested Dantaralon aren’t as advertised – the ranger station is deserted, the
defensive perimeter is down…and then the Far Horizon’s shuttle abruptly leaves
    without any of them.
    Marooned on the dangerous outback
world, romance is the least of their concerns, and yet Meg and Red cannot help
being drawn to each other once they see how well they work together. But can
they survive long enough to see their romance through? Or will the wild alien
planet defeat them, ending their romance and their lives before anything can
    really begin?

time. For on that day, a magical battle will erupt. A war between druids and an
evil that will decide the fate of mankind.
Isaac Connel knows the battle is
imminent, and is ready to fight, once again but from the moment he sees Ruth
flitting around the sacred ground, he’s captivated by her fiery charms and a
    need to protect her.
    Despite Isaac’s assurances and the
dreams that guide her, what can Ruth and her lover do to drive off this evil?

Celisse from Fight Princess by @mskosciuszko #RLFblog #romanticsuspense

M.S. Kaye shares details about the creation of Celisse
Blalock in the book Fight Princess.

    About the Book

    Title Fight Princess
    Genre romantic suspense
    Author M.S. Kaye
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG13
    Things
aren’t what they seem. Don’t get involved.
    Celisse is too headstrong to
listen. Her best friend’s boyfriend is dead, and she does not heed Cullen’s
warning, slipped to her in a note as he’s being arrested for the murder.
Cullen tries to keep Celisse out of danger and also tries
to avoid her, both unsuccessfully. He can’t deny his feelings for her anymore,
but he knows he can’t have her. If she ever discovered the truth about his
    past, she’d surely hate him.
While struggling with her intense feelings for Cullen,
Celisse uses her skills as an ex-prosecutor to investigate, all while
continuing to fight for Ogden, the organizer of an underground fight ring. She
eventually realizes things are connected—the ring, Ogden, Cullen, the murder,
and herself. She races to uncover the truth before she’s arrested or becomes
the next victim—or perhaps, the next culprit.

    Introducing Celisse Blalock

    Name: Celisse Blalock
    Age: around 30
    Gender: female
    Birthplace: Chicago
Profession: former attorney, currently office assistant
    Ethnicity/Species (if not human): white
Describe his/her body build, skin tone, height and weight.

long hair with loose curls; strong, very fit build
    Who is the
significant other in your character’s life?
No significant other at the beginning—read the book to find
    out if that changes.
    Tell us about this
    character, please.
Celisse was born into an affluent, high-society family. But
that wasn’t for her. She is a licensed attorney and worked in the District
Attorney’s office, but she had to give that up. Now, she works in an
administrative position for a bitchy, stupid boss. She has no man in her life
and has never been in a serious relationship, which has a lot to do with her
family, though she has no contact with them. She’s beautiful without trying,
    and extremely intelligent.
    If you could only
hear this character’s voice (but not see her) what characteristic would
    identify her?
    No nonsense
    How educated is this
    character?
    Licensed attorney
    Is the character
    book-smart, self-taught, widely-experienced?
    Combination of book-smart and self-taught
    Does she scrape by,
    live comfortably, live extravagantly?
She makes little money but lives simply and well within her
    means.
    What is your
    character’s viewpoint on wealth?
    It’s overrated.
    Are any of her skills
a source of pride or embarrassment, and if so, which ones and why?
She’s an extremely strong fighter, but let’s few people know
    it.
    Does this character
see morality as black-and-white, or with shades of gray?
She sees things black-and-white, sometimes to her detriment.
    How do others
perceive your character based upon looks, and is this assumption accurate?
People assume she’s delicate and ladylike. While she may be
ladylike at times, she’s not delicate. She doesn’t break; she does the
    breaking.
    Does your character
care about what others assume about her?
    Nope.

    About Your Writer

    Why do you think your
writer chose to write about you?
    She appreciates strong women.
    What do you wish your
writer had not told others about you?
I would’ve preferred to keep my entire story to myself.
    What other character
from your book do you think your writer should write a book about, and why?
Ogden’s story would be interesting, but that won’t happen.
    Why do you think your
    writer loves to write?
    She has control issues.

  • Contemporary

Sarah Marshall from Dancing with Fate by @katebenzin #RLFblog #Contemporary

Kate Benzin shares details about the creation of Sarah
Marshall in the book Dancing with Fate.

    About the Book

    Title Dancing with Fate
    Genre Contemporary Romance
    Author Kate Benzin
Book heat level (based on movie ratings)? G
Will the worst day of Sarah’s life
turn out to be her luckiest?
    By all outward appearances, Sarah
Marshall is successful and happy. Only her therapist knows her inner turmoil.
She thought she had conquered her fear of abandonment until her fiancé Jamie
doesn’t show up for their wedding.
After Jamie leaves Sarah waiting at
the church, she feels that he tossed her aside just as her father did when she
was a baby. Now the only way for Sarah to
understand why men treat her this way is to find her father and ask him what
was so wrong with her that he left and never wanted to meet her.
    Sarah’s search exposes lies that
shock her. Will her discoveries help her feel secure enough to recover her
sense of self and move on with a new relationship?

    Introducing Sarah Marshall

This interview is designed to tell readers about your hero
    or heroine.
    Name: Sarah Marshall
    Age: 28
    Gender: female
    Birthplace: Los Angeles
    Profession: blogger and writing teacher
    Ethnicity/Species (if not human): Caucasian
Describe his/her body build, skin tone, height and weight.
Include any unique features such as dimples, freckles, or scars: Dark curly
hair, light brown eyes, lean build from running, has a ‘girl next door’ appeal
    Who is the
significant other in your character’s life?
    Julian Butler
    Tell us about this
    character, please.
Julian is a very successful actor in Hollywood. He sometimes
finds it difficult to remember that he’s a man just like any other – that his
movie stardom doesn’t make him a better person than anyone else. When he feels
like he’s getting too far from reality, he likes to go away to a resort where
his anonymity is assured. He has dated many women, often for publicity purposes
for a new movie. He’s not the marrying kind, and he makes sure every woman
understands that they shouldn’t look for more than a casual relationship.
    What is your
    character’s family like?
Sarah grew up with her single mother and her grandmother.
Her grandfather died early from a heart attack, and her father left when Sarah
was just a toddler. Her mother is a workaholic and distant emotionally, but luckily
for Sarah, her grandmother is warm and caring. As a result, she is closer to
her grandmother who taught her all the things a mother normally would have.
Both Sarah’s mother and grandmother are tight-lipped about her father. They
don’t answer the questions that Sarah needs answered, but the time comes when
Sarah needs to find those answers herself.
    How do others
perceive your character based upon looks, and is this assumption accurate?
Sarah looks like the ‘girl next door.’ When people see her,
they make several assumptions about her, in particular, that life is easy for
her because of her looks. This judgment, though, is completely inaccurate. Yes,
Sarah functions fairly easily on the surface. She did well at school and now
does well in her work. But inside, Sarah is in turmoil about her value as a
woman. Why would her father abandon her and never try to have a relationship
with her. What is so wrong with her that he’d never want to know her?
    What inner doubt
causes your character the most difficulty?
Sarah doubts her value as a woman in relation to men. She is
confident regarding her studies, her work, her interactions with friends, but
she doubts that any man will value her in the way that a woman needs.
    What past event
causes your character the most fear?
Being abandoned by her father is at the root of her fear of
abandonment. She doesn’t understand how her father could have abandoned her
when she was a very young child and never wanted to have a relationship with
her. She has worked through some of that in therapy, but her fear of
abandonment comes raging back when she is left at the altar.
    How does your
    character handle challenges?
Sarah handles challenges in work by facing the problem and
working out a logical solution. But when it comes to challenges in a
relationship with a man, she runs away or sublimates her own needs. She finds
it impossible to understand the problems in her relationships with men,
thinking that something is wrong with her.

    About Your Writer

    Why do you think your
writer chose to write about you?
Kate chose to write about me because she understands the
emotional difficulties that I faced and wanted people to realize that a
person’s life isn’t always as easy as it may seem to outsiders.
    What do you wish your
writer had not told others about you?
I thought long and hard about this question. There must have
been something that I didn’t want exposed, but actually, I couldn’t find
anything that I wish Kate hadn’t told. In order for the story to be clear, she
    had to tell everything.
    What other character
from your book do you think your writer should write a book about, and why?
I think that Kate should write a book about Julian. His life
as a wealthy movie star isn’t as easy as many of us believe. With fame comes
many complications, especially loss of privacy. Many people think it’d be great
to have lots of adoring fans, but it becomes invasive. I think this would make
    a very good book.
    Why do you think your
    writer loves to write?
I think that writing for Kate is very therapeutic. She has
so many characters and stories spinning around in her head that she has to get
them out into a book or she just might go crazy.
    Is there anything
you’d like to say to your writer?
I’d like to thank Kate for putting my story out there so
that it can perhaps help some other people who are in the same situation that I
    was in.

  • Medieval

    Knight Errant a new #medieval @rueallyn #RLFblog

This quick interview includes info about the author, and
    introduces the story.

    About the Author

Author of historical, contemporary and erotic romances, I fell in love with happily ever after the day I heard my first story. (Yes, I was a precocious little brat who read at the age of two, but I could hear much earlier than that.) I studied literature for far too many years before discovering that writing stories was much more fun than analyzing them. Heck, as an author, I get to read the story before anyone else. I am happily married to my sweetheart of many, many years. My husband and I share the home of  two cats, who condescend to allow me to feed them and clean their litter box. (The cats only tolerate my husband’s assistance when I am not available.)They occasionally permit me to pet them but demand my love and attention as their right. (Funny, my husband demands the same. Could I be married to my cats? Does that make me a trigamist?) Regardless of my specific relationship status with our cats, I am in awe of their feline ability to dominate with half a glance or a mere twitch of tail. Insatiably curious, an avid reader and traveler, I love to hear from readers about your favorite books and real life adventures. Crazy Cat stories are especially welcome. You can send me your words of wisdom . . . Don’t shake your head at me; all words are wise in one context or another. You can trust me on this; I’m an author. As I was saying, you can send your words of wisdom, humor, and friendship to me at contact@RueAllyn.com. Can’t wait to hear from you.

    Interview with Rue Allyn

    Why did you write
    this book?
I love the medieval period, and research into 1294 AD told
me about the resignation of Pope Celestine V. As we all know from recent events
the resignation of a Pope is fraught with opportunity for change. I write about
that kind of opportunity in Knight Errant.
    What is your favorite
    genre to read?
Any historical that takes place before 1900.
    Who is your favorite
character from fiction (not including your own)?
There are so many, I find choosing difficult. I think the
loathly lady (a character archetype) is probably my favorite because she is
    full of surprises.
    What are you working
on at the moment, and will see from you in coming months?
I am working on the second book in my Knight Series,
tentatively titled Knight Warrior. This and the third book, Knight Protector,
    take place in Scotland 1295.
    Please tell us about
    your latest book.
Lady Juliana Verault gladly left England—and its men—far
behind in her quest to live as a Beguine. But the Christian community ceases to
provide a safe haven when she’s called to travel to Palermo, Italy, where she’s
entrusted with a letter from the pope that could radically change the church’s
stance on women. Juliana holds the key to upending the power structure
throughout Europe, but only if she can dodge her cousin, King Edward I of
England, and his betrothal plans for her.
Edward sets Sir Robert Clarwyn, a knight errant and loyal
hunter of criminals and traitors, on Juliana’s trail to retrieve her. Robert
has never failed to bring home his target before … but then, he has never
encountered a quarry like Lady Juliana, who can befuddle and bemuse him with
    just a smile.
If he can’t find a way to compel her to return to England,
he’ll lose any chance of regaining his family lands and redeeming his heritage.
Yet Juliana must complete her mission or risk endangering her gender’s future
    in the faith.
With danger and intrigue mounting, Robert and Juliana must
rely on each other and be willing to risk everything … including their hearts.

  • Character Interviews,  Historical

Prince Francesco from Favola by @DenyseBridger #RLFblog #fairytale

    Interview with Francesco

This interview is designed for your hero or heroine to tell
    readers about himself or herself.
    Tell us about
    yourself, please.
I am the Crown Prince of La
    Città Natale di Alba,
The Birthplace of Dawn. My parents have decided that
it is time for me to marry and produce heirs, and continue my grooming to rule
our kingdom. The problem being, the endless parade of potential brides has left
me feeling suffocated and less than interested in my destined role as ruler.
    Authors call what you
want but cannot have “the conflict” — what is yours?
When I first spotted my beloved, she was in a small village,
and I was directed to the La Locanda di
    Pericoli Nascosti,
(The Inn of Hidden Dangers), an Inn owned by her mother,
the stunning Bella Venezia. I didn’t realize that Bella was a jealous woman who
hated any other as beautiful as she is. She kept her own daughter imprisoned in
a tower, out of sight, and out of reach of any man who desired her. And I desired
her more than any other woman I have ever known or seen. I was determined to
make her my queen, but first had to find a way to reach her.
    What inner doubt
    causes you the most difficulty?
Fear that I will not be strong enough to do what is asked of
me, to rule my people as they deserve. To keep the love of my fair Caparicia.
    In the story world
your author created, explain what it is you fear most and why.
Bella told me her daughter was dead, that she arranged this
still fills me with rage. No amount of threatening or anger could undo what she
had wrought, until the arrival of my brother, and a witch who was willing to
help…. though the price she would ultimately ask was a high one.
    Tell us about your
significant other, that person who makes living worthwhile.
Capricia, the fair and innocent girl who stole my heart, and
my ability to think about any other. She is kind, gentle, beautiful, and
strong, all a man could desire in a queen for his people.
    What is your family
    like?
My brother, Matteo, is my best friend. He would have made a
fine king, but he was not interested in the burdens of ruling. Ironically, the
burden he did choose to carry is one much heavier than ruling our kingdom has
ever been. I miss him, and curse his Fate each dawn.
    Why are you happy (or
not happy) with the way your story ended?
I am happy with my story because my queen is at my side, and
she is the joy in my life. What I am not happy with is the fate of my brother,
but I have no given up hope that one day his burden will be lifted and he will
find his way back to us.

    About the Writer

    Canadian born and
bred, and a lifelong dreamer, I began writing at an early age and can’t recall
a time when I wasn’t creating in some artistic form. My life has had several
on-going love affairs that shape much of what I write.  In the past half
dozen years, I’ve released books in all lengths and genres, and it’s something
I hope to continue to do for many more years. A visit to my websites will show
the diversity of what is currently available, as well as other surprises and
    extras!
    What was your biggest
    challenge in writing this book?
The biggest challenges with this book were to do the
original fairytale justice, keep the sequence, but also to add some touches of
my own to the existing storyline. To do that meant writing succinctly, and not
allowing the story to expand into wordiness that would run it off on tangents
not relevant to the main story. I hope it worked!
    Why did you choose
this character for the interview today?
Today is release day for this book, but apart from that, I
love Francesco and his brother Matteo, they are regal and formidable, and
    passionate.
    Are any sequels
    planned for this book?
My publisher has suggested a sequel, and I am toying with
the idea of telling Matteo’s story, since his nobility is beyond question and
there is a very intriguing story there waiting to be told.
    What would your
readers be surprised to learn about you?
That I am exceedingly shy, and probably that this is one of
the very few books I have published new in over two years as I’ve worked at
rediscovering my passion for writing and telling stories.
    Why should readers
