Touring Whitby: Curse of the Fae King @KryssieFortune #RLFblog #paranormal

    Curse of the Fae King
    “Just call me Ishmael”
Well… actually, I prefer Kryssie Fortune, but I’m sure you
recognized the opening sentence from Moby Dick. So why am I talking about whales
when I want to tell you about my new book Curse of the Fae King? Because the story
    starts in Whitby.
    Still no wiser?
Let me explain. Whitby was once
    one of Britain’s
biggest whaling towns. Now, thanks to its Dracula connections, it’s the Goth Capital
of the World. This quaint Yorkshire town, has a
rich history replete with Celtic princesses, dark-age church synods, Viking slavers,
and…wait for it…whalers. Meena–named after the heroine in Bram Stoker’s book
    –wants to show you around.

    Meena’s Whitby
    Tour

    Hi. I didn’t
    want to love Whitby,
but when the Witch Council banished me from the otherworld, I found my spiritual
home. It’s got Goth links, and a quayside Dracula Experience, but most of all it’s
got the abbey. That’s where I first met my Leo, but back then he was all arrogance
and pride–a warrior to the core. He thought all he had to do was crook his finger
in my direction and I’d let him into my panties. He really didn’t like it when I
told him no. Okay, it was hard, since with his smooth voice, bullwhip, and rapier
    he’s the sexiest thing ever.
    Church Steps
Leo even thought I’d tried to poach
his newly hatched war dragon. I didn’t, of course, but the poor thing was lost and
hungry so I fed him my cheese sandwich. Is it my fault they bond with whoever feeds
    them first?
Leo should have taken better care
of him in the first place. He hated the name I chose for our dragon too, but he
wanted something menacing like Dreadnought or Valiant, but my name stuck. What is
it? Not telling. You’ll have read Kryssie’s book to find out. Meanwhile, here’s
a photograph of the abbey. It’s always peaceful–and windy–up there.
After Leo left me–freaking left me
when I wanted him so badly–in the grounds, I’d no option but head off back to my
mother’s herb farm. Have you seen the Church Stairs? There’s 199 of them, but going
down’s okay. Going up’s a chore. Back in the olden days pallbearers had a specially
created resting place half way up. The locals didn’t want anyone having a heart
attack before the funeral. I know it’s flippant, but one corpse at a time please.
Leo–King Leonidas of the Fae to you–just glowered at me. Perhaps I shouldn’t have
    said that.
    Ship in harbor
Anyway, the Goth shop where I used
to work is on the other bank of the river, right across the Edwardian swing bridge.
It only opens at high tide but it brings the town to a standstill. The tourists
love it. Us locals, not so much.
I dropped in at the Goth shop recently,
and they’ve still got that yappy Yorkshire terrier. I once thought that bad tempered
dog might be my familiar, but I’m really glad he’s not. So, who is? Again I’m not
telling. Leo says that’s classified information, but anyone who sees me at work
    has a whopping great clue.
    Apparently Maggie, the Goth shop’s
owner, has forgiven me for telling that witch wannabe that working sky clad out
on the moors was just plain dumb. How was I to know her and her giggly friends were
more exhibitionists than witches? Although, what with being naked and all–they
were more likely to get goosebumps than work magic. Those Yorkshire
    moors are cold.
Maggie even offered me my old job
back, but I’ve got a new role now, and Leo makes sure I get enough rest between
working. Well, he insists we go to bed early, but that’s not the same thing at all…if
    you get my drift.
That’s all my special places, but
since Kryssie started with whales, I’ll finish with
    Castle ruins

    whalebones.

    So strong is Whitby’s
whaling tradition that the Inuit Indians gifted Whitby with a mammoth set of whalebones. One hundred
years later, in 1963 they sent a new set, along with the then Miss Alaska who ceremonially presented
them to the town. Gosh, I’ve not even started on Captain Cook, but I thought you
might like to see this scaled down version of his ship, the Endeavour.
Right, got to dash. The Elf Overlord’s
expected at the Fae court anytime soon, but he’s not in my good books right now.
Elves treat their women dreadfully, as I found out first hand. What with their lies,
deceits, and their turn-you-into-a-nymphomaniac sex potion. Later, I’ve got something
special…and very private…planned with Leo. I’m not saying what, but it involves
    Lipstick.
    See you later.
    ****
    Whalebone arch
Curse of the Fae King has history, a seemingly impossible romance,
misogynistic elves, and a newly hatched dragon who is up for any mischief. Throw
in the worst carnivorous plant infestation you can imagine, a witch, a vampire–and
of course, the Fae king–and Meena’s about to learn so many secrets she can barely
keep up. And did I mention scorching hot sex? That makes it in there too.

Triad of Power: First Quest @denysebridger #RLFblog #paranormal

    Denyse’ Bridger
A few years ago I released a book called Royal Consort. It was
a fun title, and combined my love of fantasy with my love of romance with an erotic
touch. Somehow, I never found the right publisher for the book, and it just sort
of died. Back in January, I requested return of the book, and it has since undergone
a major revision to become book one in a trilogy. The Triad of PowerFirst Quest
was released December 22, 2013. I’m really enjoying this story now that’s it’s been
revised and edited, and leading to two more adventures. I hope you enjoy a peek
    at it, too!

    Triad of Power: First Quest

During the time before the Great Forbidding was created, it was
believed the defiance of the Renegades could be contained. To that end, the Council
of Power called upon their Ancient Gods for assistance. In response, the Gods ordered
creation of the Triad of Power–three swords, each one imbued with the essence of
a gift unique to those who would wield the weapons as the Guardians of Foress. Like
all magic, each crafted blade contained the driving sorcery of its creator–not all
wizards are immune to the weaknesses of men, and within the Triad, conflict itself
was bred without conscious intent or knowledge. So begins the legend, and the epic
fantasy of the Triad of Power.

    Interview

    What inspired you to write
    this book?
Ryker was the inspiration behind this book. I had this image
in my head of a phone ringing and when he leaned over to check, it had a name on
the screen. That name was Jenna’s, a former lover of his. I knew his duty would
be to track her down and eliminate her, and from there it simply spiraled into this
rich universe that I can’t wait to expand on.
    Which character in your
current book do you think readers will like the most? Why?
I think the readers will like Ryker the most. He’s a man that
is about to forswear his duty for a woman that abandoned him. Like all of us, he
needs to deal with his emotions and decide for himself what is right and wrong.
    Why do you write?
I’ve always loved telling stories. I love creating lush universes
that enrapture the reader. To see them become so connected to something of your
    creation is amazing.
    Who has helped you the
most in your career as an author?
My husband has helped me the most. I’ve known him since I was
13 and he’s been with me every step of the way.
    When you write, what things
do you want close at hand? (Coffee, water, chocolate… pictures of gorgeous hunks
    for inspiration…?)
Candy, oddly enough. Need a little sugary inspiration.
    When you’re not writing,
what would we find you doing?
Depends on the season. I live in northern Canada, so the weather makes a difference.
In the summers we spend our time rafting, camping, and hiking. In the winter, I
love to crochet (need scarves and hats to keep warm!). And of course reading is
    a year round hobby.
    Are you a plotter, or
do you prefer to make it up on the spur of the moment?
I think I’m a little of both. For me, it usually begins as one
scene or one specific image that I can’t get out of my head and then I fill in the
blanks from there when writing. Recently, I’ve begun to put together chapter layouts,
if only for a little organization.
    What’s your writing schedule
    like?
I tend to feel more creative in the morning before work when
I’m fresh-faced. My dreams are often inspiration for me, so I like to get it down
before I forget. Usually before bed, I’ll crank out a few pages as well. I’ve been
known to jot some things down while on break at work too.
    What other jobs have you
    held besides writing?
I’ve done retail while getting through school. After graduation,
I’ve worked in the field of archaeology, and currently, I am a mapping technician.
    What’s the best gift you
    ever received?
Just this Christmas I received a set of focus crystals. I’d been
having trouble focusing on my writing and I just thought it was an incredibly insightful
    gift.
    What kind of music do
you listen to while driving? Same question when writing?
While driving I need to listen to upbeat music. Anything that
I can bebop to while singing at the top of my lungs (my poor husband!). As for writing,
I need instrumental music. My playlists for that range from Epic Score to Yiruma.
    Do you play any musical
    instruments?
Growing up I played the saxophone. Whether or not I could do
    so again, I haven’t a clue.
    What’s your favorite movie?
    Gwen Knight
Oh boy. This one is going to be a touch embarrassing. I’m a Disney
fanatic. I watch them before bed most nights. And my favorite is Aladdin.
    Are you the eldest, middle,
    baby, or only child?
I’m the baby with an older brother by 2.5 years.

Interview with the fairy Poppy from Valentine Wishes.

What is it that you want,
but cannot have? Authors call this the conflict of the story.
At the beginning of the story there are two things I want most.
One is to help my mortals, so I will have good things to tell from my fly about
when I go back to the fairy court. The other thing, the most important thing, is
a secret only I know. I want Cedar Heartwood all to myself. I adore him. I left
the fairy court to try to get over him, but even after so long away; he is still
the fairy of my dreams. He is gorgeous, I mean it, and you would faint if you saw
him. Well, yes, I expect you would, as he is a fairy with fabulous wings.
While I lived at the fairy court, I wanted him so much I used
to get stomachache. Whenever I saw him I used to go all dizzy, tongue-tied and…
Well, you get the idea. Doing fly about was hard but I found my three girls and
they are great fun, despite all that, I still want Cedar.
    What’s your internal limitation?
Meaning, what is it about you that makes it so you cannot do what it is you need
    to do during this story?
The odd thing is, as a fairy all I need to do is grant wishes,
it’s my job. My girls aren’t very good at asking though, they just don’t say the
‘I wish’ words. I help them with little wishes like keeping the oven clean, but
    big wishes are different.
There are lots of things I try to do, but mostly my problem is
I’m ever so clumsy. I don’t mean to be, but I am. I bump into things or drop things
all the time. I don’t think I’m very clever either. Other fairies seem to know a
lot more than me. They used to laugh at me all the time when I was at the court.
Daisy, my writer, she did her best, poor girl, but even she couldn’t make me get
    the big wish right.
    What inner doubt causes
    you the most difficulty?
I suppose the problem is caused by me not trusting myself to
grant wishes properly. I have to say it is very hard to trust yourself with something
as special as a love wish when your track record with magic is like mine. Please,
    don’t laugh.
How would you feel if you turned your brother blue? The color
wouldn’t wash off and I had to look at him for days while it faded. He looked awful
and so many other fairies laughing didn’t help at all. Even worse than a blue Yew,
when the girls…Oh my, I can’t bear to think about it. I won’t tell you any more
about the bad things. I try not to think of them.
    What’s your external complication?
In the story world your author created, explain what it is you fear most.
At the beginning of the story, I was very frightened that if
I went back to the fairy court and I didn’t have some good news about helping my
mortals, I could be banished to a Christmas tree for years. I can’t tell you how
horrible it would be to have to spend most of the year in a box, and then when someone
gets you out and dusts you off they shove prickly pine twigs up the back of your
    skirt. What a nightmare!
By the end of the story, my fears became very different. You’d
be astonished how something so simple can be very special and change everything
in the whole world. I’m not going to say too much about this or Daisy will be cross.
People will want to read the story to find out.
    There Daisy, I remembered.
    Tell us about your significant
other, that person who makes living worthwhile.
For years, as long as I can remember I have loved Cedar Heartwood,
the most wonderful, beautiful, clever, gorgeous, sexy, delicious fairy that has
ever flown or ever will fly. He is so special. I did fly about because of him though.
I left the fairy court and went to find experiences in the world of mortals. You
see he is so marvelous and I never ever thought he’d even look at someone as clumsy
    and silly as me.
I couldn’t believe it when he arrived in my garden. I went all
jellified. Things got really complicated once he turned up.
Daisy is looking cross, so I’d better not say anymore. I know
you’re all going to love Cedar too. I can’t think of anyone who couldn’t love someone
    like him.
    What would that person
    say about you?
Cedar says I have a very pretty freckle shaped like a tulip,
just by the side of my mouth. I think it’s a horrid freckle, but he likes it. He
also says it’s easy to get too involved with mortals. I think he’s wrong about that.
One of the reasons fairies do what they do is because of mortals. I love my mortals,
they are fun and I like helping them. My girls are so sweet. They have a beautiful
garden with lights and flowers in pots, and herbs too. I enjoyed being one of the
girls. Cedar would probably say I go inside too much, he thinks it’s dangerous.
There is the nasty net curtain at the windows but if I’m careful, it’s not a problem.
My mortals don’t have a cat, so where’s the danger?
    What is your family like?
My parents don’t live at the fairy court any more though they
did at one time. They moved to an orchard in Worcestershire, to work helping some
mortals grow apples. My brother, Yew, he’s really good looking, except when he’s
blue. He is a courtier, he loves all the gossip, the parties, dancing and … Ah,
I won’t say anything about the other things at the court. Yew and Cedar are friends,
that’s how I got to see Cedar so often when I was at the court. I used to watch
him and daydream all kinds of things.
I didn’t tell Yew how much I wanted Cedar. My brother would probably
have laughed at me because Cedar had so many fairies he could pick to share a bargain
with him. They followed him around, a gaggle of them, all doing things to make him
notice them. I couldn’t do the things they did. If I tried to make mini butterflies
all cling to me as my dress, I can guess what might have happened. I’d have had
lots of fairies laughing at me.
I didn’t enjoy the fashions at the court, some of them were silly,
three flowers and a weed, you try making an attractive outfit out of that.
There is a word for what I think about the court; I’ll have to
ask Daisy, I think she’ll know. Anyway, I didn’t like the court because it was superficial,
that’s the word according to Daisy. I was glad to go on fly about to get away from
all of it but the thing that made me go was Cedar. I couldn’t bear watching him
and wanting him the way I did. I thought it would be better to go from the court
and try to forget, if I could. I did miss him. I missed him every day. He was always
    in my head.
    What special skills do
    you rely on?
Flying and magic. I love flying and flying with Cedar is the
best thing ever. I love granting wishes because it is so exciting. I love watching
the wishes work, when they go right.
    Are you happy with the
way your story ended? Why or why not?
I am thrilled with the way my story ends. Don’t let her know,
but I think Daisy could have done a bit more writing to be truthful. I mean, it
wouldn’t have broken the computer to add another couple of chapters. I was having
such a good time and so were my mortals. I have to be very careful what I say here
as Daisy has just come in and she is staring at me. Her eyes go all pointy at the
edges when she gets cross. I’ve told her she’ll get wrinkles but she doesn’t seem
    to care.
Anyway, I loved the ending to my story and so did my mortals.
There were a few hiccups along the way to get to there, but I think it was worth
    it.

    About the Writer

    You have the length of
a tweet (140 characters) to describe yourself as a writer. Let’s see what you can
    do.
I’m an obsessive writer who loves to write. A new story is a
thrill to work on and I want readers to have the best time reading my stories.
    Why did you choose to
    write about this character?
I have loved fairy stories since I was a very small child. To
write an adult fairy tale, with fairies with adult motivations felt very natural.
Poppy is rather an accident-prone fairy, but I couldn’t help become fond of her.
    She tries so hard.
    Was there anything you
discovered about this character that was a surprise to you?
Yes, Poppy’s lack of faith in herself and her magic did surprise
me. I’d assumed she’d realize how beautiful and magical she is, but she doesn’t
seem to have any idea at all. I thought she’d understand that despite the odd accident
here and there, she is an incredible fairy, but she struggled so hard to see that
in herself. Her sense of self worth needed a lot of work. I have to say working
with a fairy with such low self-esteem proved troublesome some days.
    When you wrote about this
character, what made you the most happy? What made you the most sad?
Poppy is happiest when she is helping the mortals and her wishes
work. I felt happy when she did. She is such a caring fairy. When the big wish went
wrong, I could have cried for her. Poor Poppy was desperate. When Cedar arrived,
I didn’t have much hope things would improve. The magic made a big difference.
    Why do you write?
That question is a bit like asking why I breathe. I write because
I must. I know that may sound rather odd but it’s the way it is for me at present.
I work on my writing in one way or another every day. I write because there are
stories in my head demanding to come out. My writing, as it allows me to use my
imagination and create, is a pleasure for me. I like working in a range of genres
and finding my way in them. I love reading too and if I am not writing then I am
reading. I learn from reading too. I hope in ten years time I will still be reading,
    learning and writing.
What do you want to write
    next?
I have a new historical that is about half way done. I also have
an idea for another. I have just finished the sequel to my story Timeless, and will
be submitting that before the end of February. There is a third part to that story
    too.
    Are any sequels planned
    for this book?
At present, I am not planning a sequel to this book. I may write
another fairy tale in the future but I’m not certain. I’d like to explore the darker
    side of fairy.
    Is there anything you’d
like to say to your readers?
I’d like to say a big thank you to them for taking the time to
read my stories. I love it when I hear back from people who have enjoyed a story.

    said than done.
Yanked back from their first vacation in ages, Jee and Dane get handed a top priority mission. The pay is better than any they’ve earned before as agents for the Trace, Rescue, and Identification League. With this much money, they might not need jobs. They’re the best there is, and the item, person, or secret hasn’t been invented that these two can’t recover.
But locating this quarry might be a bit past even their considerable skills. After all, how do you find an invisible man in another dimension? And who, exactly, is footing a bill this steep? Certainly not the archaeologist in charge. The military wants to get involved, but they have no monetary stake either. So who — or what — is behind the request to trail Kaiwulf?

    Interview with Jee Tonopah

    Please tell us about yourself.
Not much to tell. I’m an agent for TRAIL. Don’t believe what some people tell you. It doesn’t stand for Thieves, Ruffians, Assholes, Idiots, and Liars. It stands for Trace, Rescue and Identification League. I’ve never been married. Never wanted to be. I can’t picture me being a mom. I like my life like it is, never in the same place more than a few days. I like being the hardass who gets to tell people what to do. My partner, Dane Raphyel, is the brains. I’m the brawn. Yeah, okay, I get that I come up to his waist or something. The dude is off the charts TALL. He’s got more muscle in one arm than I have in my whole body, but yeah, he’s the brains. If somebody’s gonna get clobbered on the job, or there’s somebody who needs to take a dirt nap, it’ll be me making sure they get it. Just the way it is.
What is it that you want, but cannot have? Authors call this the conflict of the story.
Could I please just get a vacation? I saved for months to get this glorious vacation. A real first-class kind of sleepliner between planets, and
I was on my way to Earth, when TRAIL decided to yank us back for a mission. It was all I could do to keep from blasting holes in the wall when they told me.
What inner doubt causes you the most difficulty?
See, I don’t have any of that touchy-feely inner doubt kind of crap. I know what I’m doing and there’s none of this inner turmoil you hear about.
I believe in telling it the way it is. Dane says I don’t get headaches. I give ’em. You want that soft girly talk, go see Dane’s wife or something. I don’t do
    that sh–  er, uh… stuff.
What’s your external complication? In the story world your author created, explain what it is you fear most.
Not getting that vacation I was promised. Yeah I know my boss signed for it and all that, but saying I get this first class trip and then actually
letting me get on the ship and then get all the way to Earth and get really into the vacation thing…? I’ll believe it when it happens. I’ve been promised time off for so long… I just want some time, you know?
Tell us about your significant other, that person who makes living worthwhile.
*scratches her head* You’re not talking about a boyfriend, are you? I don’t have one. Not one I’d tell you about anyway. No offense. My partner’s
as close to me as they come, but he’s like my brother. Plus he’s married with five kids and he’s crazy in love with his wife. But if I ever found a guy like that… Nah, who am I kidding? I’d run the other direction. I’m more of a party kind of woman. Give me a hot cutie who’s not busy for the night and I’m good.
What would that person say about you?
The cutie? He’d say “Baby, where you been all my life?” Or some other intelligent pick up line. *winks* It’s all good.
What special skills do you rely on?
I’m the shortest agent working for TRAIL, but I have the highest rating for marksmanship in the company. I’ve been an agent since I can remember.
Always wanted to work for the company. If I hadn’t, I’d probably have ended up being some kind of assassin. Of course, my partner had a lot to do with the assassin thing not happening, but that’s another story. Maybe Kayelle will put that in another book.

    About the Writer

Why did you choose to write about this character?
I wanted a kick-ass heroine who isn’t afraid to be herself. Jee Tonopah is mini but mighty. She’s a little bit like I wish I could be — not afraid
    of a single thing.
    Why do you write?
I can’t help myself. I tried to stop. It’s no use. I’m a writer. I have to write.
What do you want to write next?
I’m working on an illustrated book about one of my immortals from another series (title: Bringer of Chaos), and a sequel for The Last Vhalgenn,
a fantasy I released previously. Plus a few more.
Are any sequels planned for this book?
Yes. It’s one of the things I’m working on. This will be a new adventure for Jee and Dane.
Is there anything you’d like to say to your readers?
Thank you for hanging with me to read this! I’d love to get to know you better. Come meet me on social media or email me. I will answer back. I
